Nikon Z6 is my dream baby

I brought this baby last week. Went to the AFC event in NYC this weekend and I LOVE...LOVE...LOVE this camera.

So good

Have loved this camera since it came out...and the firmware update that brought Eye Detection AF took it to a whole new level. Great feel in the hands. Beautiful resolution. All around 10/10 camera.

Great Mirrorless camera value for great Z lens pairings!

I'm a professional real estate/architectural tog. I use the Z 6 with the Z 14-30mm f4 S lens for the bulk of my work, but also use the Z 70-200mm f2.8 VR S lens for details on those shoots. It works great in low light situations, and that's exactly why I bought it. Is focus perfect? No, but it produces many more "keepers" than my D7100 with f-mount lenses, did. It also works very well for wildlife when paired to my Sigma 150-600 Contemporary lens via the FTZ adapter. Got great shots of an Osprey plucking a Trout out of a river pond a few years ago. The biggest con I have with it, is the rolling shutter affect that it produces when panning with a fast moving sports object, or wildlife object. I've learned that shooting the subject moving towards me, works best. As such, I'm looking forward to the Z 8, as it will supposedly do away with shutter roll , like in the Z 9. We'll see. Great camera, even when using older classic lenses like my nifty fifty 1.4 my Opa gave me. The focus peaking makes it much easier to use and get great images with the Z 6. Highly recommend this version, or the newer Z 6 II.

A true workhorse & great camera for the price.

I built a six figure business on the back of this product. It's not as user friendly as the higher end products, but then its price is quite reasonable for what it is. Autofocus system is probably going to be the biggest hangup for most users. However, if you invest some time with the product, like with any tool, its pros and cons become a part of what is beautiful about your creations. I've since moved on to the Z9, but even when I do step back to the Z6 I'm always happy with the product it produces.

Excellent Photo/Video kit for the money. Saved at least $500!

This kit is an ideal starter kit for performing both photo and video disciplines. All items included are well well-thought out, and you will probably save about $500 in extras if you were to buy them individually. Things that could be better: Corel software seems to have a lot of issues installing correctly, the tripod is not good for video (recommend upgrading to a fluid-head video tripod at some point.). The lens 24-70mm lens is great for medium shot work, but eventually you will need to find a nice telescopic lens (70-300mm) and something for wide. The FTZ II adapter is a great part of this package set that gives you more affordable options for lenses later. You may also want to invest in an LED lighting kit. The Z6 has great low light capability, so you can really get creative with lighting on this camera. Eventually you may prefer a better shotgun microphone. I took a chance on a Comica brand wireless microphone kit for $300, but it has worked perfectly for interviews and on-screen subjects with this camera.

Better than expected

I bought this Nikon Z6 as a back-up, second camera to my Z7. So far, I?m absolutely thrilled with the image quality, which is arguably better than the Z7 to my eye. It does feel slightly less responsive than the Z7, but I didn?t expect it to be a better camera overall, so I?m thrilled with how capable it is. For the price, I think it?s hard to imagine a better camera. I?ll also add that Adorama was, as always, very quick to deliver and remains my favorite service.

Absolutely changed the game and my life

My very first dslr was a Canon XT gifted to me by my uncle so that i could take photos of my baby nephew, fresh off the shelf sixteen years ago and boy have we come a LONG way since then! For the last five years i?d been shooting with a D600, i got her off of amazon used for about 400 bucks with barely any actuations and i absolutely fell in love with the full frame Nikon lifestyle. It?s been a few years and I?ve come so far as an artist and a photographer, had some extra money, and made the leap to the Z6 and boy i am NOT disappointed. In fact, i think this camera and it?s features create so much less work around efficiency for me, removing so many extra steps that i hate in the photographing process (for example, snapbridge is a DREAM to me with that autosync) that i actually find myself taking more and more photos outside of just my usual portraits of friends and myself. photos are sharp and gorgeous, the colors are vibrant and i barely have to do much cleanup work in my editing stages. The camera is light, the real-time previews with your settings are almost always accurate so no need to waste actuations on testing them. It?s sturdy and just a really gorgeous unit overall. I took mermaid tank photos yesterday and ran into the problem of having TOO much light which is not a problem i?ve had before (and i?m sure folks who?ve done tank shoots can attest that?s pretty impressive). i?m currently using the FTZ II adapter with my 24mm AF-S 1.4 lens and my 85mm AF-S 1.8 lens and the auto focus is a little funky at times but it?s extremely minor to me personally, it still works well and manual focus has always been my friend when i need to switch it up quickly. Overall, if you?re thinking about it and are using an older full frame kit like i was just DO IT. I got a used one from here in E- condition and honestly there are no imperfections, the camera is perfect and had 19k actuations so you?re in the right spot!

Why I bought another Z6.

I bought this camera to pair it up with my z100-400 mm lens. When I hike, I am usually around or in water and I don't like changing lenses. As this is my second Z6, the camera was very familiar and works beautifully. And, with Nikon's price point it fit my budget, along with Adorama kicking in a memory card and lens bag.

Best serious camera bundle

Perfect step up from the entry-level D3300 I've enjoyed for years. Bundle was excellent (lacked a charging tray for the LED light battery, though. A $2.00 item.) For my purposes (serious amateur) made more sense than the Z6 ii. Use the difference in price to put toward another lens. The recent firmware upgrade helped the autofocus a lot. Not a lot of difference now between the Z6 and Z6 ii. Z6 is actually better than the Z6 ii for starfield photography. Z6 ii would be better for long burst sports stuff.

Looks good, well packaged.

Everything looks great but unfortunately I have not been able to use it yet as the adapter (I do not have a mirrorless lens) was on backorder the last month. I hope to receive it before Christmas. I like knowing I have an extra battery and a smaller case that will fit the Z6 camera better than what I currently own.

Great Combo!

For a ?kit lens? it is really an exceptional performer? compact, light weight, sharp and unlike most ?kit lenses? it has a constant aperture of F4! The Z6 has great color, excellent video and ergonomically feels great in the hand. The image files are easy to work with and have a wide dynamic range. Nikon has continued to develop and update the firmware so much so that the performance of the current firmware (version 3.4) makes it behave completely different from what it originally shipped with. Early on as a first generation camera it was often dismissed as it was often compared to a camera system that was in its 7th generation. Just through firmware updates Nikon has significantly improved the performance beyond reasonable expectation.

The Most Balanced Photo-Video Option on the Budget Market.

Bought this to serve as a B-Cam to my Blackmagic Pocket 6K for video and independent filmmaking, but also because I want to get more into specialized photography like sports, real estate, and landscape. I've worked with the Sonys before and originally came from Canon workflow. Sony [probably] has better options for both photo (raw latitude) and video (more low ISO ratings) individually, but they are separated out between two different camera lines. Nikon offers you an amazing option in the Z6 line. It is a beast in lowlight, now offers RAW output via HDMI, and is a great option for sport or wildlife photography. It's the most balanced option on the market, and especially excels as a B-cam in my kit.

Great camera

Great camera! I upgraded from a D200, and I'm quite pleased. I was unsure if I was going to like the ergonomics of the smaller mirrorless, but it works great for me (I have small hands though). The autofocus is incredibly fast and accurate, and I love how I can download directly to my phone via SnapBridge. Only drawback is the memory cards are so expensive, but a necessary expense for the mirrorless technology.

Great camera, camera bag a little small

The camera is wonderful! I upgraded from a D200, and I am amazed by the difference. The autofocus is really fast, and the low-light capability is incredible. There's very little noise even at higher ISOs. As expected, the battery life isn't that great because of the digital viewfinder. The included camera bag is a nice idea, but it's a little small. Along with the camera, it could possibly only fit a prime lens, if that. A more practical addition to this package would be a second battery. As expected, the battery life isn't great because of the electronic viewfinder.

Amazing Low Light Capabilities, and TACK Sharp!

By CaliCam

I'm a former press photographer on the red carpets at Hollywood's biggest events. Doing event coverage means you are in constantly different lighting situations, and low light in night clubs and at concerts has always been an issue. Today I photograph set still and publicity photos for movies. Being mirrorless, a sound blimp to silence the camera noise is no longer required. Neither are the sticks that were needed to hold the camera when fitted with a blimp. Today, after capturing the requir...

Great upgrade

By Z6FanInVirginia

I bought a Z6 and upgraded from a D5300 and what an upgrade it was! The Z6 is rugged and as close to being ergonomically perfect as a camera can get. The controls are placed exactly where you need them. The viewfinder is crisp and gives an excellent preview of your photo. I bought the 24-70 f2.8 (which takes beautiful shots) but, with the included adapter, I can also use my Nikon legacy lenses without any issues. I seriously looked at the Sony a7iii but glad I stuck with Nikon.

Welcome to a New Era of Nikon Imaging

ALC: Hands-On Review with Tamara Lackey: Testing the New Nikon Mirrorless System

I was lucky enough to spend a full week shooting nearly non-stop with the new Nikon mirrorless system. I may have stopped for sleep a bit, but otherwise, I was able to shoot in multiple regions throughout the Yucatan Peninsula and then flew a few hours up north with our crew to Guanajuato, Mexico. And then I shot a whole lot more. I was able to put the new system through the paces — shooting in large, rainforest-like sinkholes, in pitch-dark caves, at pink lagoons, above colorful landscapes, and in and above the streets of a large, sprawling city.

My first impression of the new system is pretty straightforward: It’s just extraordinary.

Let there be more light

New Z Mount - 17% Wider with 65% slimmer flange*

The largest full-frame mount on any camera system. At 55mm, it’s the largest full-frame mount on any camera system**, allowing more of everything: more light capture, more data sharing between lens and camera and more image quality performance.

And by seemingly breaking the laws of optics with just 16mm of flange distance, Nikon can now deliver smaller and lighter cameras and lens designs impossible in any other mirrorless system.

All-around amazing
Adaptability. It's about remaining fluid, open. Preparing for nothing, but being ready for anything. Thriving in whatever situation comes along. The Z 6 is perhaps the most adaptable camera we've ever created. It's at the sweet spot of speed, resolution and low-light performance. All combined with the advantages of a lightweight mirrorless design, a revolutionary new full-frame lens mount with matched lenses and seamless integration with Nikon's DSLR system-including the F-Mount NIKKOR lenses you love. This is mirrorless versatility as only Nikon could create.

At home in your hands
A deep grip design and balanced weight feel great with both NIKKOR Z and F-Mount NIKKOR lenses with the Mount Adapter FTZ. Buttons and dials are comfortably placed-features like the sub-selector and AF-On button are in the same position as the D850. Unmistakably Nikon.

Big performance. Small footprint
One of the major benefits of the Z 6's thin 16mm flange back distance is that cameras can be made smaller and lighter The Z 6 is smaller and lighter than the D750, yet it maintains outstanding handling and balance, even when using telephoto F-Mount NIKKOR lenses. It's as comfortable to carry as it is to shoot with.

Flagship Nikon durability
A skeleton forged from ultra-strong Magnesium Alloy, the same material used in the D850 and D5 for its extreme durability and incredible strength-to-weight ratio. The same brake mechanism and shutter blade material used in the D850. tested for 200,000 cycles while actually loaded in the camera. The Z 6 is ready for the field.

New NIKKOR Z Lenses

The next generation of NIKKOR glass
Empowered by the larger Z Mount and shorter 16mm flange focal distance, NIKKOR Z lenses gather more light and break traditional rules of the "sweet spot". Forget about stopping down for maximum sharpness-NIKKOR Z are at their best and deliver corner-to-corner sharpness even at their widest aperture.

Legendary F-Mount NIKKOR Lenses

Greater performance from the lenses you love
When used with the optional Mount Adapter FTZ, more than 90 F-Mount NIKKOR lenses maintain all of their sharpness, resolving power and functionality and gain the advantages of the Z 6's in-body VR, silent shooting, PDAF focusing system, 4K video and more. Approximately 360 F-Mount NIKKOR lenses can be used. Compatibility as only Nikon can deliver.

273-Point On-Sensor PDAF
273 on-sensor AF points cover 90% of the frame (approx.) horizontally and vertically. Subjects are acquired quickly when they enter the frame and tracked throughout the frame, even to the far edges.

New Hybrid Autofocus
Using an AF algorithm optimized for its FX-format sensor, Z 6 automatically switches between focal-plane phase-detect AF and contrast-detect AF to fine-tune focus. The light-shielding phase detection pixels are carefully arranged on the sensor to preserve light, ensuring accurate AF even in dim lighting.

New Subject Tracking
Whether shooting eye-level with the EVF or in Live View with the LCD, Auto Area AF smoothly tracks your subject's face-even when it's one among many. The system pays attention to the upper body, too, maintaining focus position when your subject briefly turns away from the camera or moves out of view.

New 3.6m-Dot Quad VGA Viewfinder

Oh, what a view
Take an ultra-high resolution QUAD VGA display, add Nikon optics for magnification, including Aspherical lens elements and Fluorine coating and you've got an EVF experience unlike any before it. Minimal lag and blackout, 100% frame coverage (approx.), corner-to-corner clarity and sharp magnification. It has the feel of an optical viewfinder and you can use it for both stills and videos.

New Icon-Driven Info Display

Keep your eye on the prize
All relevant info is displayed out of the way and is easy on the eyes. A new customizable menu appears right inside the viewfinder, so you can quickly adjust settings without ever taking your eye off the shot. Focus modes, white balance, exposure, VR settings, Picture Controls and more-all within eye's reach. Preview exposure and white balance changes, image stabilization and depth-of-field in real time. You can even review the photo or video you just shot.

Up to 5 Stops of VR Image Stabilization
Powerful in-body 5-axis VR image stabilization is applied to whatever NIKKOR Z lens you're using. Up to five stops of image stabilization in up to five directions-yaw, pitch, roll, X and Y. During video recording, optical VR is combined with electronic VR (e-VR) for even steadier shots. Normal VR mode for static subjects. Sports VR for moving subjects.

VR For F-Mount NIKKOR Lenses
For the first time, F-Mount NIKKOR lenses like the AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED or AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED can benefit from in-body3-axis VR. NIKKOR lenses that already have VR, like the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR, get the added benefit of roll axis for a total of 3-axis VR. Just add the optional Mount Adapter FTZ and you're good to go.

Full Frame 4K Ultra HD

Amazing productions start here

Capture cinematic 16:9 4K UHD/30p video in full-frame using the total width and resolution of the Z 6's backside-illuminated sensor. Full-pixel readout for sharper 4K footage with rich information equivalent to 6K. Clean output at high ISO. Zero crop factor with full-frame NIKKOR Z and F-Mount NIKKOR lenses. Focus Peaking in both 4K and 1080p recording. Simultaneous 8MP stills. This is 4K as it was meant to be.

4K Time-Lapse

Travel through time
Shoot up to 9,999 full resolution stills using Interval Timer (and zero shutter vibration), then combine them into one 4K movie with 3rd party software. Or create time-lapse sequences right in the camera with exposure smoothing and extended low-light metering range-great for star trails and light painting.

New N-Log With View Assist

Maximum detail, viewable in-camera
N-LOG format preserves more detail, up to 12 stops of dynamic range, shadows and highlights to make color grading more precise in post. For easier spot checking of focus and exposure, the new View Assist function displays simple gradation compensation, highly useful for confirming the final look of the footage.

Slow Motion Videos
Capture every detail of movement with 120 FPS. Then play them back at 30, 25 or 24 FPS for jaw-dropping, fluid slow motion in 1080p High Definition.

Four AF-Area Modes
Four AF-area modes for videos: Single-Point AF, Wide-Area AF (S or L) and Auto-Area AF. Seamless automatic switching between Phase Detect and Contrast Detect AF based on the situation. Mimic focus pulling techniques by controlling when AF starts and stops in AF-C mode using AF speed and AF tracking sensitivity options.

New Built-In Time-Code
All of your Z 6 footage can be time-coded in-camera for easier synchronizing and logging, especially when editing shots from multi-camera shoots.

New 10-Bit HDMI Output
What's the difference between 8-bit and 10-bit recording? Only about 1 billion more colors (64X more data)-so much more flexibility in post-processing. Record directly to an optional external recorder with 10-bit output via HDMI, the industry standard. Simultaneously record uncompressed 8-bit 4K UHD movie files to the memory card and an external recorder. (Atomos Open Protocol supported for syncing start/stop.)

Smooth, Quiet AF
The speed, smoothness and accuracy of the Z 6's AF system is ideal for video. It's virtually silent, very little chance it will be picked up by an external mic. When used with NIKKOR Z lenses, "breathing" and "wobbling" are all but eliminated. You can even touch to focus using the LCD for fast transitions between subjects.

New Z Mount
17% larger internal diameter than Nikon's acclaimed F Mount. Wider than any full-frame mount available. It totally changes what's possible with lens design. Enhanced low-light performance. Even illumination from corner-to-corner. Maximum apertures as wide as f/0.95. Faster data transfer between camera and lens. This is the ideal balance between mount diameter, large image sensor and flange focal distance.

12 FPS Shooting

Built for speed
Shoot up to 12 FPS at full resolution in Hi+ mode (12-bit RAW or JPEG) without the need for an external battery pack. When speed matters-and it always matters-you'll catch the shots others might miss.

ISO 51,200 (Expandable to 204,800)
The Z 6's 24.5MP image sensor along with the Z Mount's light gathering potential and flawless EXPEED 6 noise reduction free you to capture beautiful photos and videos at extremely high ISO settings-up to ISO 51,200 (expandable to ISO 204,800).

Silent Mode
A great advantage of a mirrorless design is the ability to shoot in near silence. Quietly capture important moments during recitals, weddings, newborn photography anywhere silence is golden.

Connectivity

Built-In Wi-Fi
Transfer images to compatible smart devices 2X faster than previously possible-up to 25 mbps. Choose between the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands for optimum transfer speeds.

Built-In Bluetooth Low Energy
The Z 6 can automatically connect whenever your compatible smart device is in range. Send original resolution JPEGs or have the camera automatically transfer 2MB versions of your photos as you shoot them.
