PHIL W : Does the Z -fc have image stabilization?ACCOUNTS P : No, This camera is for the most part like the z50 before it. It relies on image stabilization in the lenses. Most Z mount lenses have IS built in and so it is not a major issue. Primes lenses do not have IS.JOHN C : It does not have in-body image stabilization but some of the DX lenses have stabilization (VR).Steven S : No, it does not. Best to use a stabilized (vr) lens.
ROBERT R : I heard it has problems using studio lights, is this true?  i use a wireless adapter to fire my strobes.RUSSELL M : I use pocket wizards and have not experienced any issues at all. I’ve also use on camera flash by Godox and worked flawlessly.NICHOLAS A : I use a Godox trigger with no problems.
FARLEY M : This is my 2nd Z-fc from Adorama.  1) Has anyone had any issues with the EVF blacking out completely- with your eye to the EVF?  The camera still functions, and you can shoot blindly with a blackened EVF.  Turning the power off and on usually remedies this. 2) The customizable function button on the front of the camera by the lens mount CANNOT be programmed  to any thing else but the factory set White Balance mode.

Retro for a beginner

Being new to photography, I was looking for a camera that I could manually change the setting to practice on. Not only do I love the styling but the pictures it takes are super sharp and vibrant.

Nikon Zfc

Awesome unit with incredible low light capabilities. Used recently on visit to New York City. Bought the package the day before arrival and the store had it available for pickup the next day when we arrived in the city. Camera is light weight (14oz body)and was comfortable carrying around the city. I love the retro look of the older nikon film cameras and was very easy to setup and learn. Be advised though, camera does not have an onboard flash so you will need to purchase if you don't already have one. I bought a nikon compatable mini flash from Adorama for $59 that works just fine. Attached is a photo of the freedom tower taken at night without a flash. Love this little addtion to my collection

Very happy with my purchase

Great camera all around. Do yourself a favor and watch some of the many online video reviews. There are some quirks to the camera, but accepting them you'll have an excellent camera to learn photography inside and out, and look great doing it. This is a very, very capable camera and I'm very happy with it.

Great digital/analog hybrid mirror less camera.

Loving it so far. The auto focus is very intuitive for shooting on the fly, while the analog controls allow for a very easily customizable approach as well. Seems to be very sturdy and well built. I did buy a 'small rig' hand grip as I have rather large hands which made a huge difference. Handles like an old 35mm without the bulk or weight. Currently in Baghdad having a great time learning to use this Nikon. Falling in love with photography all over again!

The Perfect Backup For Professional Content

Already used it out in the field using both the video and photo settings. Shoots great 4k video and the photos have the manufacturer elated. I got this to be a quick back up for my monstrous D3 and it is definitely the perfect thing to stuff in my jacket while I am shooting in the frozen elements of the high sierras.

The Nikon Zfc with an 18-140 lens is super!

I purchased a Nikon Zfc camera with an 18-140 mm lens. I couldn't be happier. The camera takes wonderful pictures and has many more features than I was expecting. I wanted a small, high quality, travel camera and it is perfect.

It is what it is.

It's fun. It's small and easy to carry around. It's not like it's big brothers. I've had people ask me if I was shooting film. I still haven't got the hang of all of the knobs and dials. That will come with more use. I wish the body had something to grab on the right side. But that would ruin the retro look. The kit has everything you need. I haven't tried the filters yet, so I'm not sure how much they help.

I love this camera. Takes me back to the days when I had my first Nikon camera in 1970. Easy to use and has rekindled my love for photography.

Camera for looks, not for photographers

Cool design, but not a good camera for anyone who wants to manually adjust things. Many common adjustments when shooting manual are not accessible through anything but the touch-screen menu. The camera is also really hard to hold and make adjustments on. It's meant to hang around your neck looking cool and then taking the occasional snapshot. Shooting with it for long periods caused my hand to cramp up due to contorting to hit the right buttons (like back-button focus, etc) while shooting. Picture quality is also pretty poor. I'm coming from a D7100, but the dropoff in resolution feels a lot bigger than ~3 MP. Doing any amount of cropping resulted in really poor image quality.

Like a Df, but so much cuter!

All the usually accolades and provisos apply. Looks gorgeous, invites frequent use, great photographs. However, if you're looking for a one handed camera (like the other Z cameras), you'll need an add-on grip. No programmable modes means that this is an enthusiast camera, not a professional's tool, but that is fine. If you tire of using the top dials to adjust settings, it has convenient wheels on the front and back like a "regular" DSLR. No buyer's remorse!

Was skeptical, but now hooked

I am a professional photographer and I love cameras. I use DSLR's for my professional work, but for my personal photos I've used mirrorless systems since 2014. I've been through them all, but Sony. While I loved the concept of the Zfc, I was hesitant to get it because I was currently using a Fuji X-Pro2 which I felt based on sample photos produced nicer photos and because of the lens selection. I had no intention of defeating the look of the Zfc with those huge Z mount lenses from Nikon. As more 3rd party lenses started to come out, as well as other accessories, I thought I'd give it a try. So I purchased one with a Meika 35mm f1.4 and a TTArtisan 23mm f1.4 with my Adorama Edge card. These lenses fit the style of the Zfc so well and the images that come out look awesome. My X-Pro2 is now on eBay. :)

I like it!

I have a Nikon D3500 with the 2 kits lenses plus 2 other lenses. I looked at the Nikon Zfc and decided I would like to own it. Did I need it, NO, but I wanted it! I purchased it with the 2 kit lenses and so far am enjoying it. It is lightweight and small. I find I have no problem holding it, so to me the external hand grip is not a necessity. I have not used the 50-250mm lens as much as the 16-50mm, but find that both lenses take very good pictures. The one thing I find is a problem, is battery life. I can use my D3500 most of the day without worrying about a dead battery, whereas on my first go around with the Zfc, I was out of battery after a few hours of shooting. But in defense of the camera, I am told that this is a problem with all mirrorless cameras. So everyone, purchase this camera with the kit lenses and an extra battery and you will once again find the joy of photography!

So much fun!

This is such a fun little camera! Besides the fun retro vibe it brings, it's easy to navigate controls, and compact and lightweight nature, it produces great photos with sharp details even in challenging situations (such as, through airplane windows at 37,000 feet). It is now my vacation/carry-around camera of choice. It does not replace my D780 for serious photography, however in a pinch I would be confident in it's ability to do the job. Focus ability was fast in good lighting, but definitely slower in lower lighting situations. I am looking forward to adding a couple more lenses to make the experience even better. Did I say this is a fun camera to use? Definitely consider this camera in your search.

Attention getter

Amazing camera, easy to use. Flip screen quite clear. Mi only issue is with the lens, when fully extended, you get vignette in the corners, more on the left than the right of photos. Overall, nice package.

A Great Entry level camera or Fun Backup Camera

A great little camera. Very user friendly for Nikon shooters. Flip screen is great. Eye tracking is very good for an entry level camera. The image quality is good, but I would not use the kit lenses. Buying this body with the Z 24-200 (36-300mm equivalent on a crop sensor) 4-6.3 gives great quality and flexibility. If on a budget get the 28 prime this can be kitted with as it provides much better image quality than the pancake lens. Dials are fun looking, but not very practical in a fast environment. They really need to add an ISO button as it is hard to switch between auto and manual ISO.

Get Yourself A Nikon Z fc and Have Fun With Photography Again

I love this Nikon! Having been a Nikon and digital camera owner for several years, I was getting frustrated with the endless menus within the cameras to make adjustments. The Z fc brings back the old school dials and controls that I missed. Of course I could get used to using the newer camera functions on other cameras (talking about you, Sony), but I'm honestly lazy in that regard. This camera is so easy to use and yet it provides me with a lot of control within seconds. Need to change the shutter speed? Done. Change the f-stop? Done. I don't have to figure out which menu to scroll through to make minor adjustments. Stills and video are excellent on the Z fc. Once I figured out how to adjust the settings on the fly, my photos have a "pop" and pleasing colors. Photos are sharp and very good quality. 4K video is almost "film-like" and doesn't have the cold digital feel that my former Panasonic and Sony cameras had. Focusing in the video mode is super quick and I had no problems shooting video of myself talking to the camera and moving to see if I'd go out-of-focus. Focus was not lost and if need be, I can go to manual focus via the "i" button and menu. Get a grip if you purchase this camera, though. I found the old school charming but not so much when carrying it for extended amounts of time. I bought a small $20.00 grip and it works well. The 28mm lens is very good. Sharp with good contrast right out of the box. Bokeh isn't perfect for a lens at this price level and lens flair is sloppy. But overall I like the fact I can get a 2.8 f-stop when needed. I really do enjoy the Z fc!

Good product

Good product for my class. If u want to use other Nikkor Z lenses on it, you can buy a handgrip.(for me I am using the 24-70 f/2.8) It will be way much easier to control it. If u gonna use this 28mm lenses the whole time, then u don't need that. (by the way, still waiting for z9 :D)

Stunning photos from a stunning camera

I?ve exclusively used Nikon since a child. This would be the 4th Nikon camera I?ve purchased through my life , the cheapest, and I have to say it?s my absolute favorite. It is just a beautiful looking piece of technology, old meets new, but better yet, the ease of use and the quality of the images is unmatched for the price. I plan to have this camera forever.

Fun Retro Look With Z Capabilities

Great little camera with fun retro look and controls. Very much Z quality function and capability packed into a small package. I've paired this with the new 28mm SE and find it's the perfect little walk around set up. Super fun little camera and I find myself grabbing it instead of my full frame Z when I leave the house.

Superb little camera.

This little crop camera really surprised me. Compared to the Z50 has slightly better autofocus and takes really, really good images. Also has a "Fun Factor" with all the retro dials. Will be my go to travel/pocket camera going forward. Highly recommend getting a small rig or other 3rd party grip. Awkward to hold without it in my opinion.

I really needed the speed, the retro look is a bonus

I really like mine. I am ok that it's a little bit form over function. I am not a pro so it's ok to look retro. It was quick to learn the settings, the 28mm lens works awesome! I got the FTZ Adapter so I could use all the lenses I collected for my D3200. It works out great. I love the view finder preview, the eye focus and the added speed. The the flip screen for selfies or vlogging is also handy.

Incompatible with most speed lights.

Multiple people have stated having problems with HSS and iTTL (myself included) when using any flash other than the SB-5000. Do not buy until Nikon fixes this issue. The worst part is, the price of the SB-5000 is half of what this camera costs.

Awesome camera for those wanting great focusing.

I am a professional photographer, and while this won't replace my d850 anytime soon. It is super impressive, and for those who are aspiring photographers with a liking of a retro feel, this is a great little camera. A lot of times we focus on detail, image quality, and all the specs in the world in the camera world. For most people, a main reason for poor quality is focusing. This camera has amazing focusing capabilities, and amazing in camera vibration reduction for handheld shots.

Great, retro vibe camera that pros and enthusiasts alike will love

Why did I want this camera when I already have a handful of pro Nikon bodies and a good assortment of lenses? I wanted something small and compact as a carry around all the time camera. I wanted something that takes great photos, would shoot 4K video, have good autofocus, image stabilization, and a flip out screen for vlogging. I have higher end cinema cameras fully rigged, so I didn?t need something to replace those. Enter this cool, retro vibe camera. The first Nikon to feature a flip out screen. It checks all the boxes except stabilization. I have a GoPro if I need serious stabilization. I wish the body were weather sealed, but I LOVE this camera. The 28mm lens is good too. The crop sensor isn?t an issue, either. Pros will love this camera as much as enthusiasts.

Zfc review

Nikon Zfc is a small lightweight camera that has the ability to take the user back to the basic photography fundamentals of the old film cameras. This camera is great for those shooters who started in film photography and want that nostalgia and feel of shooting film again. I love the fell and love how this camera works in the hands. The only downside I do not like is there is no grip on the camera for your right hand next to the shutter button but there are aftermarket parts. I really wish this was a full frame camera as well as having an XQD slot instead of having an SD card.

Buy it, it's awesome!

By ROBERT D.

Love it! So much joy. My Z7 feels all lonely and left out since its cute, fun baby brother arrived. I highly recommend this camera for walk around take everywhere with you daily camera. Also, I recommend the Viltrox aspc lenses they just brought out 1.4 apertures in 23mm (35 equivalent), 33mm (50), 56mm (85). I ended up getting all 3, they're perfect for this camera. Buy this and rediscover the fun of photography!

Retro Cool

By JARED M.

The Nikon Z fc is not a pro-level camera, but it could be used in a pinch. The kit lens is nothing to write home about, but will do. These shouldn?t be surprising - they are the very same descriptors one would use to describe the Z 50. The magic of the Z fc is what it represents. For a longtime Nikon user and professional photographer, the Z fc is to me what a two-seat roadster with a manual transmission is to a car enthusiast: it?s a pure and classic distillation of everything that gets me ...

Nikon Z fc

Nikon Z fc.

Z fc fuses classic design with Z series technology. Small size with big image quality. 4K videos with full-time Eye-Detection AF. A flip out vlogger screen with live streaming capabilities. This is a camera you think you’ve seen before. But the performance is entirely new.

It All Starts With The Z Mount.

It All Starts With The Z Mount.

The Z fc is designed around Nikon’s revolutionary Z mount, the widest lens mount of any comparable camera system. A wider mount means more light, and more light means more of everything good—sharpness, contrast, accurate focus, low-light performance and image quality.

Set Your Sights.

The Z fc’s sensor is practically covered in focus points—87% coverage to be precise. That means wherever your subject is within the frame, a focus point is locked on. Compose the way you want.

Set Your Sights.

Lock Eyes.

Nikon’s intelligent Eye-Detection AF for video and stills quickly locks onto eyes—humans, dogs or cats—and follows them. This is especially useful when you can’t be behind the camera, for first-person videos and selfies.

The Vlogger Monitor You've Been Waiting For.

The Z fc’s Vari-angle display can face forward for easier vlogging and first-person recording. This activates self-portrait mode, bringing key camera controls to the monitor so you can conveniently touch and tap adjustments.

Live Streaming & Web Conferencing.

Look your absolute best with the Z fc and a NIKKOR Z lens. Simply connect the camera to your computer with a USB Type-C cable (sold separately)—it provides power too—and compatible software like the free Nikon Webcam Utility. You’ll get sharpness, clarity and flattering depth of field unlike a typical webcam.

30722autofocus-automated_12102.jpeg

Autofocus. Automated.

The whole time you’re recording, the autofocus system is working, making precise adjustments to keep your subject in sharp focus. This means you can be the one in front of the camera, even streaming live, with total confidence in your footage.

30722external-mic_61721.jpeg

Add An External Mic.

Capture high quality sound in-camera using the Z fc’s built-in stereo mic or a dedicated third-party external mic. The 3.5mm stereo mini-pin jack provides plug-in power. Monitor your audio levels on-screen, including a clipping indicator, and make gain adjustments in real-time.

Image Transfers. Wireless & Automatic.

Wireless & Automatic Image Transfers.

Pair your smart device to the Z fc from the SnapBridge app once, and your phone and camera are always connected. You can transfer videos and stills manually or set the app to automatically import every still you take, then edit and post your work with your favorite phone apps.

Capable of shooting wide-to-normal angle images—everything from landscapes to street scenes to portraits all captured clearly with 4.5 stops of Vibration Reduction. Plus a classic silver finish to match the Z fc.

Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8 SE.
