A must have for Macro!

I bought this at the recommendation of several pro macro shooters and the possibility does exist that it is the best focus rail on the market, however, it certainly allows a lot of movement. I purchased the L model instead of the Q model because one independent reviewer found the Q model to not be universal in its fit of Arca-Swiss plates. The screw on the L model is very small and the knurling on the base of the screw is far too small to hold tightly. It needs some anti-twist mechanism other than gaff tape. The biggest problem I experience is that with my Nikon D810 and 200mm f/4 macro lens pointed downward, the gearing is not strong enough to hold still and as soon as the lock is loosened, the rail slides away downward. It is difficult to control the gear and loosen the rail lock without incurring any movement at all, which pretty much defeats the purpose of the rail. If you have a super-lightweight camera/lens combo, or if you are only photographing objects at a level. horizontal angle, this is probably the unit for you.

Certainly NOT "Rock-Solid"

It's just what I needed with my Nikon 105 macro. I was about to sell that lens, it was just too hard to focus. I love it now, am able to do focus stacking and get everything just right.

Didn't like the price but wasn't able to find any other way to get what I wanted.

This really is smooth and nice

I wanted a focus rail with the arcs-swiss mount.  Quick on and off my ball mount and quick mount with the camera without removing the L-bracket.  I also needed a focus rail that was stiff enough to keep a heavy camera/lens from sliding when pointed down.  This is perfect, meets all my requirements.  Pricey but all the other options had compromises I wasn't willing to offer.
