Used with Gitzo monopod and Manfrotto 3232 tilt head.  The Novoflex quick release is only one of two quick release systems (the other being Trek-Tech's) that I have not occasionally (which means too frequently) failed to engage.

While, unlike full-size MiniConnects, the MC-MR lacks a separate lock, its lever action is quite positive.

The MiniConnect system is not directional; the user must each time manually establish camera azimuth positioning.  That is relatively uncritical with ball mounts but more so with a tilt head.

compact and relatively foolproof

I use this quick release with a lightweight Gitzo travel tripod and Novoflex ball head. It fits the setup and overall I'm happy with it. The clamp concerns me in that it doesn't have a safety lock and relies solely on friction. It also seems overpriced to me. I've had limited experience with it so far.
