Why would I consider adding the 1040D to the arsenal? Being on sets a lot, I am always asking myself why professionals use the gear they use. Why do top DP's choose OConnor? How can a tripod head cost this much? Before this head, my workhorse head was an Aktiv10. Phenomenal head. Phenomenal innovation from Satchler. The Aktiv series is lighter. Aktiv is faster to set up (perhaps by a small margin). Why would I spend over three times as much for a device that does so little? Pans. Tilts. What's the big deal? Well, OConnor delivers some of the smoothest pans and tilts in the industry. It is, undoubtedly, an improvement over my previous head. Let's say 7% better. My pans and tilts are 7% better. Since this is a lifetime head, dependable in all types of environments, I can justify the cost. Pans and tilts are the bedrock of camera work. The OConnor earmark, I quickly found, is that this head stays exactly where you point it. No micro drops, as with no continuously adjustable heads.
