marcos g : I would like to take photographs with a Nikon dslr what adapters or accessories would I need to buy? if possible I would like to use a full frame d800 so may be a 2" adapter may be possible? thanksDAVID W C : A two inch adapter at the telescope diagonal site with the "other side" made to fit into your Nikon with removed lens, should do you for starters. Set it up through your diagonal or directly into the telescope body with diagonal removed. Playing with your focus controls will help you decide with or without diagonal (or both) lets you reach a focus point. Also with or without diagonal is going to relate to how the camera positions on the telescope. That setup will allow you to see what is doable.IAN F : I am sorry I am not familiar with the fittings On this telescope it looks as though it will take the standard 1·25 adapter tube and Nikon t ring Check on the Orion web site Good luckDAVID F : The 2 inch adapter is a good idea. You might need extension tubes to reach focus with a refractor. Also, if it's a doublet you will probably get chromatic aberration(violet ringing around some stars). Not familiar with the Orion. Also, get yourself a remote release for the camera. Hope this helps.JIANJUN J : I think the most significant difference between a telescope and a normal lens is focusing. For a normal DSLR lens, the focusing ring is in the front, and the distance between the imaging sensor and the last lens element is fixed. So, the focusing plane is fixed for a normal lens mounted on a DSLR. However, the focuser for a telescope is at the end of the scope, and the focusing requires adjustment of focusing plane. According to the formula of lens imaging, the image distance would be larger if the object is closer (compared to celestial objects). Therefore, an EXTENSION TUBE is usually required if you want to take photos by using a telescope.

About Orion 120 Refractor

The Orion 120mm f/5.0 Compact, Large-Aperture Refractor is perfect for deep-sky pursuits. Its 120mm (4.7"), multi-coated achromatic lens assembly and modest 600mm focal length combine to provide breathtaking wide-field views. With an optional 25mm Plossl eyepiece, this telescope serves up a sprawling 2.1-deg swath of sky! The fast f/5.0 optical system also makes it an excellent telescope for astrophotography.

The 26"-long optical tube is well baffled to ensure good contrast. The cast-metal 2" rack-and-pinion focuser accommodates either a 1.25" or 2" diagonal, so you can use 1.25" or 2" eyepieces. Tube color is gunmetal gray metallic. A mounting base molded into the focuser casting to accept an optional Orion finder scope or EZ Finder II.
