Questions & Answers

Shopper : What's a good light weight, sturdy and reliable tripod for Orion 9X63 Mini Giant Astro binoculars?KIM W : Depends a good mono pod or tripod like a Manfrotto, Bogen or Gitzo is pro class. No good light weight tripods perhaps the Poloroid and like tripods are not to expensive and are lightweight *must* be large enough to support glass at good height without using center column ie around 72 ninches not 50 or 60 no no no. It has to be of a good standard pro or semi pro for the strength/weight but don't spend to much if you are not going to carry it very far. Look into the surveyor tripods not so light weight but very very stable and can be found around in the 50 to 100 buck bracket give or take about 20 bucks or so these are a great deal if you aren't going to carry it all day. They can be carried into the back country if you insist but more comfortable if you don't have to heft it far. The binoculars are heavy enough and high enough power that you will have difficulty hand holding. There are interesting mounts for binoculars like parallelograms (think very heavy tripod in this case) if you going to be using them for extended periods you should make yourself comfortable.

About Orion 9x63 Astronomy Binocular

The Orion 9x63 Mini Giant Astro Binoculars has lenses and high-grade BAK-4 prisms which are fully multi-coated to permit the highest light transmission possible. The aluminum barrels are internally glare-threaded to ensure rich contrast and eliminate ghosting. Images are sharp, bright and wonderfully vivid. Moderate, 9x magnification allows a wide 5.0° field and 7mm exit pupil.

Contributing to this binocular's comfort factor is its long eye relief. No pressing the eyepiece housings into your eye sockets to get the full field of view. Even eyeglass wearers will see edge to edge. Its relatively compact size, allow this Mini Giant 9x63 binocular to be hand-held comfortably for short viewing stints.

That applies to daytime use as well. For extended gazes, especially with the two high-power models, you'll want to tripod-mount the binocular for steady images. Smooth rubber armoring provides a secure grip. A large, knurled center focus wheel, pop-down rubber eyeguards and threaded socket for optional tripod adapter round out the feature set.
