Questions & Answers

Lindsay P : Does anyone know the weight of this bag when it's empty? Also, do you think it would fit a T3i with a grip and 18-135 with a hood? How much room is there in the front pocket? I'm looking at this to use as a purse and camera bag all in one, so any information about using it in that way would be appreciated. I'm 5'2" and would wear this across the body. Thank youANGELA F : On my scale, it weighs 4#. I used my bag on a 2 week trip to Italy as a purse/ camera bag. It holds quite a lot: my Canon SX30is, battery charger, ipod, phone, phone/ipod charger, wallet, and small cosmetic bag. I don't have any extra lenses. The front pocket fit my ipad perfectly with its magnetic cover on it. I even had room to carry any small purchases I made. The strap is adjustable (I'm 5'4"). While it was great to carry everything, it can be heavy to carry around all day. It is a beautiful bag, and made very well.CHARLENE H : I use it as a camera bag and purse. I'm 5'5". I set the strap at almost the shortest length. The main interior pocket probably has just enough space for your T3i w/ grip + 18-135 w/ hood. The front pocket is pretty thin. I can fit my phone, keys, pens, chap stick. I have to put my wallet in the main pocket. The weight of the bag is fine. For use as a purse though, the bag is stiff and bulky, which it has to be to protect the camera. It almost feels more like a briefcase. I still love it!JOAN P : I did not weigh the bag when I received it, but did find it heavy. The bag is really beautiful and carefully constructed, but I found it more masculine and business-like than I anticipated, more like a briefcase than something I could comfortably wear across the body (I am 5'4"). There are great YouTube videos where people show you all the gear they can get into this bag, but I could fit my T3i and two lenses into it, yet it wasn't roomy enough for me to use as a purse. I could not fit my flash or hood without feeling like it was a puzzle, and I like to be able to pull my camera out easily. The front pocket is pretty narrow -- maybe a journal, pen, slim wallet, but it's not the type of pocket that you can throw everything into. Because I wanted a third lens and a bag large enough to hold more gear, I opted for the Union Street instead and still carry my purse! So, having said all that, if you tend to carry just a few things in your purse and that is the only gear you will be carrying, the bag will break in and, I'm sure, be gorgeous over time. But if you need something roomy, this might not be the best choice.SHANSHAN C : i don't know exactly how much it weighs, but i can assure you it's very heavy. but again, that's what you get when you want durable leather. i won't recommend it for everyday use considering its weight. i usually just have my camera and one lens put in the bag. i can put my ipad in the front pocket and maybe my phone as well. i'm 5'3" and the bag lands on my hips when i wear it crossbody. overall it's a bella bag. i've had loads of compliments about it. hope this helps :)
FRANK T : I think I'm falling in love with this bag. I love the color, and the overall look and workmanship of this bag. Is the interior all leather as well? So I think I'd like to know where it's made as well. frankELLEN W : This is a beautiful, well-made bag. The exterior leather is high quality and the stitching is strong and I anticipate it will last a long time. There are two pockets that are leather. The interior is not leather. It is padded with the material that is standard for a camera bag. It also has moveable dividers to customize the bag for your gear needs. I easily fit my 5d with a 50mm and 2 other lenses or a lens and flash. Great for walking around the city without being obvious. I felt this was well worth the price compared to other bags that I have paid over $100 for. I am confident this is a piece that I will have for a long time. Hope that helps.TAKAYOSHI O : I don't think the interior shoud be all leather. It is a great bag.I love mine so much. The metal parts had better to be more classic taste,I think.Thank you.CHLOE J : The inside of the bag is a soft jersey knit type of fabric. It's great for lenses. I'm not sure where it was made, but the quality is outstanding.ANGELA F : The bag is lined with a soft padded liner with removable dividers. The bag is sturdy and very well made, with beautiful stitching. I recently took my bag on a two week trip to Italy, and took it with me everywhere, using it not only as my camera bag, but it also carried my phone, iPad, iPod, and accessories. Since it is leather, it is a little heavier to carry, but the strap can be adjusted to wear as a cross-body bag comfortably. I do not know where it was made, but it is an American owned company. I am very happy with my purchase!

I wanted to love this bag...

What I keep in the bag: Canon 5D MarkII with small lens attached (35mm), 100mm macro lens, and 85mm lens. The fit for all of these is really tight, but I can manage it. There is no room for anything else other than my phone, a very small, flat wallet, and a small, thin notebook. The bag would be most comfortable to use with a camera body and attached lens plus only one additional lens. The specific cons follow: The first thing I noted as I unboxed the Ona Brooklyn bag in chestnut is that it is not the warm color as pictured in the product image. It is definitely darker, with a more wine or burgundy tone. Though disappointing, this was not a deal breaker for me. The leather is still beautiful. However, I would have preferred the bag to look exactly as pictured. Secondly, I was not happy with the trim along all edges of the bag. There appears to be some sort of thick coating applied to the edges, and this coating is cracked in two places where the flap curves over the top of the bag. I fear that this coating will only continue to crack over time. Furthermore, in some places, this coating appears to be unevenly applied, which just doesn't look nice. For a bag of this price, I would have expected the same edging that I find on the other fine leather purses that I own. Finally, I knew that this bag was going to be on the smaller side, and that is what I wanted as an alternative to the functional, yet large backpack I already own. But I wish the Ona bag was at least a half inch wider. Squeezing my full frame camera body inside causes a bulge in the bag, and doesn't make quick removal of the camera as easy as I think it should be. The bulge is probably not noticeable to others, but it bothers me. This is a camera bag - there should be room for my camera. I'm still debating whether or not to return the bag. Unfortunately, options for a classic, beautiful, all-leather camera bag are limited.

Great Bag

I purchased this bag about one year ago from Adorama. It has held up very well. My bag did not have uneven stitching as the other review did. I do agree that that the strap needs more holes. I went to a leather shop and had three more added for free. I could actually have a couple more added. The bag is not a lightweight bag and it does provide great protection. I like that the dividers inside are velcro and may be moved around to accommodate your needs. I also agree with Angie that it is not a go it alone bag. I went to Europe and did not bring it as I wanted one bag for camera, passport, wallet, sunglasses, etc. and there just was not enough room to fit it all in.

My favorite bag

I have it in brown leather, and love how this bag looks and feels. I've been carrying it for a year now and it's aging beautifully. Easy to wear cross-body or to carry by its top handle. Inner compartments are flexible and can hold two cameras with short lenses attached, or one body with short lens attached and another long lens separate. A simple, go-to bag, not meant to go it alone for serious travel, but perfect for local shoots.

Nice bag, not big enough for pro DSLR

This bag is made of nice leather and the padding is stiff and supportive. However, the quality of the leather and the stitching isn't as nice as I would've liked for the price. For example, the stitching on the shoulder pad and the stiching where the strap and buckle meet are crooked. The tanning of the leather is uneven, so parts of the leather have a nice grain and other parts are slick smooth. Also, I wish there were a few more holes punched into the strap. Because the bag itself is quite hefty, it's very heavy when full of gear. It nees to sit higher up near the hip bone or else it places too much stress on the shoulder when carried cross-body. Also, it's important to note that while the bag can fit a pro DSLR (like a 5D Mark III), it does not fit comfortably. The bag will close, but leather is stiff so it contorts. If you use some sort of Sun Sniper or Black Rapid strap that attaches to the tripod mount, you'll need to take it off or really shove the camera in the bag for it to fit. And you can pretty much forget about storing hoods with your larger pro lenses (e.g. Canon L lenses). The bag is not wide enough to comfortably store my 85L with the hood attached. It's a good bag if you are using a smaller, entry level DSLR. Or, if you plan to use it to carry lenses only without a body, it could work for you. For me, I wish it was at least an inch wider, taller, and deeper. It's a size shy of being useful.
