Questions & Answers

LUCIA P : Can the TR-Q6 RT controller trigger a Canon flash such as the 600EX-RT?SAID B : Personally I don’t have the Canon Branded, but what I do have (and used like that) is the Yongnuo 600 RT II, and two Orlit RT 600 c. It works awesome with all of those.BRYAN B : I believe it can, but I'm not sure. What I do know is it can't fire a Yongnuo yt600ex II flash, which is what I have. I remember being a little disappointed that the instruction manual stated it can only fire the ORLIT and Canon flash guns.Daniel D : Nope. I have 3. Doesn't work.ERIC S : Yes it can
Shopper : How come I cant fit my glow large umbrella through the umbrella socket?PARGAT S : You can, just give it a good push
Shopper : Can this be triggered with canon ST-E3-RT transmitter and the 600EX-RT speed light?BENJAMIN K : I have not tried those units I use Plus X triggers.

Not a bad flash especially when it 's on sale. However I find that I rely more on the little brother, the 400 more often.

A good and affordable light. I like it's output, high speed synch and TTL capability. However, I don't care for the lack of consistency of output flash level, the very heavy weight, the trigger's printed button ids that wear off with use, and the lack of available service parts.

Cheaply made but works well

I have two of these units and they perform well. However, you have to be very careful with it as it's cheaply made. I've had issues with two batteries swell up and latch issues with the batteries. I also bought the AC adapters and have had latch issues with them as well because they're cheaply made. I guess that's why the Orlits have been discontinued.

Great dependable light.

What a great light! Battery power last all day long on shoots. Good color. Fast refresh. I wish Orlit was still around. My guess is Westcott will absorb this into their line as well. So instead of $600 it will be $800-900.

Useless in 2 years

Bought this two years ago as I needed a step up from speedlights was a wonderful strobe for the first year and half of ownership. Than the battery pack got stuck inside the strobe had to pry out with a screw driver to release it. The battery housing came loose so I had to apply gorilla glue to the edges and clamp it for 24hrs instead of buying another 150.00 battery. And now for the final straw was on a shoot last week 6/2/21 was setting up my softbox to the strobe mounted it to my stand and the mechanism to tighten the angle of the strobe no longer works making my strobe useless now the parts used for this is very cheap wich is disappointing for the cost at best this should be a 250.00 strobe.

Not sure what the problem is but didn't work out for me.

I really wanted these to work out... lol. Maybe some kind of electrical mod could bring these up to snuff? As they are they're pretty much unusable for anything but product or food photography. Forget about photographing people as they do not recycle fast enough. I can't tell you why, perhaps a battery mod could fix things here? I have noticed that these cheap products really seem to skimp on the batteries and if you have ever used Canon's speedlites you know how much the right or the wrong battery can affect performance. Perhaps it could be worth it to take apart the battery and experiment with some different batteries but you know that is a hassle and probably not worth the effort.

A-1 Definitely underrated...

Needed an extra unit for on the go. This was a perfect sweet spot at 500ws. Love the design and handle for ergonomics. I definitely recommend updating to latest firmware to avoid misfires.

The flash works well, except it is made like junk

The actual flash works pretty well. The battery holds a charge for a long time and will get through almost any shoot you take it to. The interface is a little clunky to use and takes some getting used to, especially when using the wireless trigger. Once you figure it out, it does work pretty well though. However, the casing for this flash is absolute junk. I bought two of them. The first one, the clamp that attaches to the mount broke, so I can't tighten or loosen it. It feels like it's plastic stripped somewhere, or the nut became detached. So it's stuck in the same position, and I can't really adjust the angle of it. I've seen a few other people report the same problem, except they can't tighten theirs so it just flops around. I don't see any way to fix this. Luckily how mine broke it's still somewhat useable, but I've seen it break for others in a way that leaves the entire flash worthless. The other issue is that the release button on the battery broke. It goes in, but doesn't pop back out to latch into the flash. Again, this looks like there's no way to replace it. This could be a really good flash, except they really cheaped out on some parts. And judging from the reviews, I'm not the only one having these issues. I probably won't be buying Orlit stuff again after this.

Bought two 2 years ago, purchased two more today

I own two 601s. I have had them for almost 2 years? I am buying another two today. ** some issues I have with the unit are actually system issues and may have been corrected with newer firmware. I’m terrified to update the firmware cause you can brick these things if done wrong. I have lost a trigger attempting to update the firmware. It’s a brand new brick... Read the firmware instructions prior to downloading. I have successfully updated 1 trigger and 2 units since then with no issues. Pros: - Inexpensive - Mobil - all the power I need for my small home studio. - wireless!!! Can control the whole setup from the hot shoe - good recycle time, (while on battery) - came with a great cases (I bought the kit) - solid construction. I have dropped one a few times on concrete. The Handel cracked, but the unit still works!!! With no problems. Cons: - installing the firmware incorrectly will brick the trigger. Read instructions 1st. - when using the AC adapter. model light has a noticeable shut off, and it is slow to turns back on. - sometimes when I press the test button on the trigger, they flash, but one of the strobes, the modeling lamp turns off. I simple press the lamp button on the trigger and it come back on. It’s annoying. But not enough to deter me from buying two more. - I don’t like the plastic nob used to clamp to the light stand. But that’s a little deal. Overall, I recommend them over the 610s if you are ok with manual. (I never shoot in TTL.) If you do not own any yet, try to buy the kit. It’s really nice! Very professional. The cases are padded and have room for other things you may need to carry on site. The trigger work really well. (Make sure to cut on both units prior to connecting the triggers. It just works better. If you already own some Orlit products, and you are considering these to add to your setup, you won’t be disappointed. In that case You don’t need the kit.

Great light. Works with my Canon trigger.

Purchased this because it would work with my already-owned Canon speedlight trigger and it works as promised. Lots of power, easy to set-up and use. Battery life has been great so far. My only minor complaint is that there are three things you have to set with the trigger - the lighting group, the channel the transmitter is on and the ID number the transmitter is set to. The light remembers the lighting group it was last used with, the last channel it was linked with, but every time I turn it on I have to re-select the ID its set to. Very minor inconvenience but if they could fix that, it'd be terrific.

Quality product, with a couple issues.

I rely on this light when there's time available to set it up in the field. But there are some issues. It's big and heavy and after the wind blew it over, I was told there are no parts list for me to make my own repairs. I was able to open it up and repair the problem but I would have loved to have replaced a cracked handle. The HSS works well but I don't get great results with TTL, so I use manual. Also the remote is fairly straight forward however the printed labels on the buttons wear off quickly and the lighted dial could be much brighter. Overall it's a quality product and on occasion offered at a great price.

Great flash

Full functionality with my RT Canon system, Speedlites 600RT, 600RT II and 430RT at the same time, mastered via Speedlites or ST-E3 as well. A little bit heavy for outdoor use if you’re a one man party.

The Orlit is a very well made product that performs beyond expectations. It will help overcome even the most severe shadows caused by direct sunlight.

Good product but there is room for improvement.

This is not an in depth review nor a long one but let's start with that this is a decent flash with potential however I've experienced quite a bit of issues using the unit: 1 Occasional communication issues between the flash and trigger/camera 2 Having owning the flash for about 7 months, the battery unit has stopped charging which is leading me to but a replacement. Pros: Good price with load to offer Cons: Not sure on the reliability of Orlit products I'll consider Orlit in the future as others seem like them and I do like the unit that i have, despite the issues.

So far so good, except

I use this to shoot real estate. When I need some extra power this 600 watt unit really comes in handy. I can also turn it down enough for powder rooms so it's the only flash that I typically use on a job. A couple of months ago it just stopped working for no apparent reason. I called Adorama and they had me ship it back ($40) for either a replacement or a repair. They chose repair and I got it back about a month later (cover-19 delays). Works like new now. Thanks for the good warranty.

FEATURED REVIEWS

A crazy bargain. Very impressed so far.

By CHRISTOPHER L.

I've been checking the product page since this light was announced about a month ago to check availability, and when it finally came in, I immediately picked mine up at Adorama. It was worth the wait. The two battery-powered moonlights that people will probably cross-shop with the RT-610 most are the Profoto B1 and and Godox AD600/Flashpoint XPLOR 600. The Profoto retails for about triple the cost of an RT 610, offers a bit less power, and a has a mostly comparable feature set. The Godox/XPL...

Better than Profoto B1

By John V.

I love this light. Selling my Profoto B1 asap. I am able to control all of my speedlites + orlit 610 with 1 transceiver which is great. TTL is spot on 99% of the time. This thing costs 1/3 of what the Profoto B1 costs and is superior IMO. Adorama is eating Profoto's lunch and they deserve what's coming for charging ridiculously high prices for inferior lights. My only complaint is the modeling lights shuts off after taking a shot. It should stay on. I'm sure this can be easily addressed in...
