Everything I own made by Orlit is riddled with bugs and inconsistent behavior. This item is no exception. It triggers Speedlights well but doesn't work right with Orlits own RT 60-10 Monolight which I own, in which case normal sync causes a shadow to form across the bottom of the frame. Oddly the light also shows the error though less severe using Orlits own TR-Q6 transmitter, which I would classify as pure junk. The only transmitter that works perfectly with the Orlit Light I own is Canon's own 600EX RT II...crazy right? So give Orlit that at least. Not sure how they're setting up their flash sync on the transmitters but its pretty hit or miss in my experience. Another bug in this transmitter is button presses not registering on the first try, really annoying when you're trying to work quickly.

I purchased this along with an Orlit RT-600C speedlight. First impressions: My order was shipped promptly and was well packaged. It arrived in perfect condition. Out of the box the transmitter appears to be a near identical clone of the Canon ST-E3-RT at a fraction of the price. Fit and finish are excellent. Mounting to the camera hot shoe is smooth and secure with the easy to operate locking mechanism. The display quality is excellent with the default white on black color combination - crisp characters and high contrast. Other configurable options are available, but as a matter of personal taste, I prefer the white on black. Usage: In combination with the RT-600C I found this transmitter to work as advertised. The two in combination do exactly what I would expect them to do. Since I only have one speedlight I can't comment on using the group functions. The description on the web states the range to be 328 feet, but the manual specifies the range to be only 98 feet. I tested at 165 feet and it worked perfectly. Speaking of the manual, I am not impressed. It is very small so it it can fit in the box. As a result, the print is tiny and very difficult to read except in very bright light. Fortunately, the menus and operation are essentially the same as the Canon equivalent and you can view that manual on-line (as recommended by an Adorama rep I talked to on the phone - thank you). Using the Canon manual I discovered one function that was not properly implemented - the Memory function. It does nothing. Perhaps this will be fixed with a firmware update. This is the only flaw that I have found. If partial star ratings were possible, I would have given 4.7 stars because of this. But since that's not possible, I rounded the rating to 5. One other thing to note - not all functions are available with all Canon DSLRs, depending on the age of the camera. These exceptions are noted in the Canon manual and are camera shortcomings and not the fault of the ST-RT transmitter. For example, the maximum sync speed is reduced and HSS is not supported with wireless slaves for cameras introduced through 2011.

Works as advertised. Wish the backlight remained lit longer but not really a problem.

This trigger have the advantage to work in group mode, allowing the capacity to work with 5 different groups, it is extraordinary for any photographer who need more than 3 basic groups.

Did not work with canon 600ex-rt. Flash worked well with the orlit 600 speedlight. It would however trigger the Canon 600ex-rt but it would make it dump all the light. It would not respond to any flash exposure compensation. I also don't like that the screen times out after 2 seconds and there is no way to change this time out period. While it is done for battery preservation, it is extremely inconvenient to use.

I wanted the ability to fire several speedlites without a speedlite so close to the lens while shooting portraits. Finally I can, the only drawback is there isn't a setting in customer functions for the length of time the display stays on.

I am using this unit with the Canon 80D and an Orlit Rovelight 610 Monolight (for Canon). Things work pretty good but I've notices some misfire problems among other small glitches. I've also done some extensive testing to see if it a random occurrence or if there is something specific that causes it. I've discovered something specific and it seems to be the reason for all of the glitches I've found. What I have discovered: After taking a photo and reviewing it (using the play button), the unit will always misfire the first shot if I use the shutter press to exit play/review mode. After that first misfire, the unit will fire without issue. Furthermore, pushing the play button to exit play/review mode is a workaround to the misfire issue (although I find it hard for me to always remember to do this when I'm shooting). Also, when using shutter speeds higher than the max sync speed, (high speed sync), the camera will show the setting for the max sync speed on the LCD when it is about to misfire that first shot. After that misfire, it will go back to the higher shutter speed you were originally using. Lastly, the sound of the misfire is evident without ever looking at the strobe. It sounds almost like a slow shutter speed (click... click). I'm still testing this unit.. I hope they come up with firmware to fix this issue. I also hope this helps anyone who owns the unit and is getting these seemingly random misfires. Discovering the root of this issue has helped me quite a bit during my photo shoots.

I used this once during a wedding to trigger two ORLIT RT-600C speedlites, but had to many misfires and switched back to using my ORLIT TR-611C and was able to continue shooting more reliably. The next wedding I shot, I only used the ORLIT TR-611C. I'll experiment with this some more, but I'm not completely comfortable with its reliability yet, and don't want to risk failure on an important job

Works a lot better than then the unit supplied with the Rovelight. I recommend this transmitter rather then the one that comes with it. LED screen is very easy to see just wish it would stay lit longer. either way its a weell built solid transmitter. Worth the price.

I have only used this a few times so I can't speak to long term reliability or compatibility. However, the menu was very easy to read, and setup. I took a few test shots with 2 600EX RT 2s , with a 5D Mark IV and everything worked very well. I like the Focus assist beam, and I like the fact that you can also use optical trigger vs. radio if you want.. This allows me to still use my older flashes if I need to. The build quality is on par with any other brand, backlight keys are nice, and the dial is easy to use to set everything up with. My only complaint is that there is no rubber bootie on the flash foot like there is on the canon flash units, the rubber boot helps keep it from "wobbling" .. Otherwise I would have easily given this 5 stars.

I did not want to be a first time reviewer, however after seeing the description compared to a Conon model I decided to pre order this item. I set it up very easily with one Canon 600 RT and two Orlit- Canon RT 600 units. It paired up seamlessly. I have not used this set up on a job but using the Flash as a transmitter with the other units works fine. All functions available with the flashes will work off camera as well. The black face screen seems to be easier to use. One small detail that I had to overlook was the small print instruction guide book enclosed inside the box, with a very nice case .I must add. Because this transmitter has low light assist, I believe it will surpass the Canon manufacturer's unit.

Works as expected. Great value.

The Orlit ST-RT Wireless RT Transmitter is a sleek and powerful hotshoe wireless RT remote control, which commands multiple flash shooting, without a speedlight on the camera, to provide full ETTL, Remote Manual, and HSS, in 5 individual groups for up to 15 slaved flashes. Designed especially for use on CANON EOS cameras, it beacons a 2 way signal up to 980ft/300m through 2.4GHz wireless radio, based on the popular Canon RT system protocol employed in the Canon 600EX-RT series of speedlites. Using an Orlit ST-RT on the camera’s hot shoe, a Canon photographer can easily adjust the exposure for any Orlit Rovelight RT Family Monolights and Orlit RT600C Speedlites.
The large ingenuous LCD display panel keeps the photographer in individual control with all of the slaved receivers. Status, mode, exposure and sync information are all simultaneously visible and adjustable directly for the ultimate RT multiflash experience. The device’s ready light reports the status of linked slave strobes, keeping visual touch with the power of Orlit RT.
The Orlit ST-RT transmitter is water and dust resistant, equal to the Canon EOS-1D series cameras.
