terrible ittl

got this with the orlit 400. One of the most inconsistent ittl I ever used. Doesn't do pass thru for other trigger when you piggyback other trigger brand.

Works with Canon 5Dmk4, but Not EOS R

What my title said. I hope this review doesn't get deleted. But I speak the truth. The TR-611C works totally find both E-TTL, and Manual my 5Dmk4. But when I tried using this on my EOS R. It fires my last, but when I preview the pic. It shows the flash in the photo. :\

Great value Transceiver

First, I must brag about the Orlit company overall! It was a life saver finding out about this brand and its products. As far as the transceiver(s) goes, I love the built of this product. It fits snugly onto my dslr hot-shoe with the tightening screw design. The transceiver is very simple to use and pairs great with the RoverLight RT-610. It also gives you the ability to pair it with an Orlit RT-600 speedlite, with the additional hot-shoe built in on top. Giving you the ideal off camera flash set up that I find a great option when shooting events, indoor and outdoors. I definitely would recommend this transceiver, as well as all the other Orlit products to any photographer looking for an all in one solution for your lighting needs. Especially for the price value!

Better for Speedlights than Orlit Monolights

The one flaw that I’ve found in the Orlit light system is the transmitter/controller. The TR Q6 is very hard to see because of the angle and the power saver mode so I got the TR-611C. It is easier to see and it has the pass through hotshoe. Unfortunately, it is unreliable and it uses a different scale to adjust the flash output. It uses fractional power settings instead of 1/10th stop increments. That means that you don’t have the fine control with the 611 as you do with the TR Q6. One good aspect of the TR 611C is that it can be an inexpensive transmitter/controller for your Canon RT speedlights and those speedlights which use the Canon RT radio protocol such as the Orlit RT 600 and the Yongnuo 600 series. They use fractional power settings.

Good Value for the Money

Very good for the price, especially at the sale price. These are handy as receivers to have to mount to extra flash units as you might have lying around and use them as background lights etc. Build quality is not amazing so I wouldn't be rough with them and the button layout is not intuitive but once you set your lights you probably won't be changing settings too much.

Ok trigger system

For some reason this trigger has always caused me issues, be it with sync or with detection. I would definitely want to upgrade to the newer trigger they have for Nikon to see if that helps. This one in particular had some issues with syncing with my Orlit Rt610. It would often disconnect and then re syncing the trigger to the moonlight would take me several attempts which is a little concerning in the middle of a shoot.

STRAIGHT OUT THE BOX......perfect.

most importantly with a lot of signalling back and forth 2 AA batteries lasted the entire night. secondly, if you have any RT speedlights & experience with the RT system, and canon transievers and speedlight master/slave communications ... the way this transiever is laid out is very intuitive and easy to learn. 24hrs after opening the package I put it to use at a high dollar event and mixed speed lights with monolights and controlled everything from this device... THIS is my rave review. good job ORLIT. I just wish the SUPER expensive batteries on the 610 rovelight were as resilient and long lasting.... but thats a different review.

Not just a Master trigger but also a great slave.

This TR612 is not just a master trigger on the camera, it also works as a remote slave. I have used it to replace all of my Yongnu 622 triggers, and now have a complete Orlite triggering system I can adjust from my phone. These 612 devices are fitted to my SB700 Nikon flashes (I also have a Shanny SN600SN, which works perfectly), If the flash is set to TTL, and the TR612 is set to slave, I can use my Orlit TR-Q6N to control the Orlit strobes, and my Nikon flashes. TTL and manual power adjust from the TR-Q6N works flawlessly, and the range is outstanding, way better than the Yongnu. Its simple, and in a pinch, if the TR-Q6N was to fail, I can swap one of these as a master and continue to work. The Bluetooth for Orlit, via the TR-Q6 is a lifesaver for quickly switching studio setups. I cannot understand why Adorama has these on clearance, but at this price they are really great. I did notice some odd behavior with some features on non Nikon flashes (Yongnu 568EX and a Meike 910), but it still worked fine for triggering and power adjust as well as TTL, but it seemed power was inconsistent. Not so with Shanny and Nikon.

If you want to use your speedlights with your Orlit Monolight, this is what you need.

I have an Orlit Rovelight RT610 TTL Monolight for my Nikon and I added these transceivers so that I can also use my Nikon speedlights as fill or accent lights. I find these transceivers to be reliable and fairly intuitive. The major drawbacks to this system are that there is no easy way to turn off a group, or at least I have not found one. I have to manually switch off lights or receivers that I do not want to fire, which detracts from the convenience of a wireless system. The other main problem is that the "manual" flash mode will only allow you to make remote adjustments to the power settings if the speedlight is in TTL mode. This results in a TTL preflash that throws off light meters. Therefore, if you want to use a light meter, you have to have the speedlight itself in manual mode, which makes it impossible to change the power setting remotely. Neither of these are fatal flaws, but it would certainly be nice if they made Orlit transceivers that would address these drawbacks. Until then, these transceivers appear to be the only game in town if you want to incorporate speedlights with your Orlit moonlight.

Lot of functionality but difficult to use

I've used this transceiver to control RT 600C and ORLIT 610 strobe on a Canon 5D MKIV. I was able to control both flashes. However, it took quite a bit of trial and error to get things to work correctly. It works better with one or more identical units than with a speed light and a large strobe.

Stay away

I have used this full time for the last 6 months on all of my commercial shoots. I shoot still life, so I have been able to live with it's major faults, but I would never recommend it to anyone. The only thing I like about it is the position of the display and the controls. I am using it to trigger the RoveLight RT 610, but it only fires about 60-70% of the time and it frequently fires at the wrong power. If I switch the monolight from group A to group B, it takes 15+ seconds for the monolight to actually respond to the different power settings. This transceiver can only control 3 groups which is very limiting to me when the Yongnuo can control 5. When I turn the transceiver on, it frequently does not power on! I have to switch it on/off/on/off/on/off before it will actually light up and respond. Last night I was on a photoshoot with the camera on a 25' tripod, and the transceiver stopped triggering the monolight half way through the shoot. I tried powering on/off the monolight and changing every setting to get it to work again, but the only way to fix it was by lowering the camera, turning off the transceiver, and turning it on again. Since I had to lower the camera, we had to re-start the entire photoshoot to make sure the composition was consistent for post-processing. The lack of consistency in this unit is beyond belief, and I wouldn't recommend it for students and definitely not for professional use. I tried to get my money back from Adorama, but I was 1 or 2 weeks past the 30day money back guarantee so they refused. Terrible support, terrible system.

Its OK

This is an OK transiever,, it does work but missfires from time to time. I used it for 4 months and upgraded to the new version (rt-orlit) as of now it is my backup unit. not bad for coming free with the Rovelight.

Needs work

Inconsistently connects to the 610 moonlight. Does not work with Yongnuo wireless system. You can't even have both on the camera at the same time in different channels without introducing crosstalk issues. So the only solution with mixed vendor Canon wireless devices without a guarantee, is to use the Canon transceiver at this point.

Don't bother

If you use Canon Speedlites, I'd use the Canon remote instead (which I do). This is just too kludgy. The newer radio, listed but N/A at the moment, seem slike it's better designed.

Not bad, but needs work - unreliable

I have two of these as they came with the two RT 610 monolights. I already have the Canon ST-E3-RT transmitter, so while not needed, I was interested to see how they compared, especially given the claimed range. Bottom line. Spend the extra money on the Canon transmitter. These are too unreliable. I had the same behavior using both of my copies. Pros: * UI After working with this for a an hour or so, I think I like the UI better than Canon's. Both are clunky in their own 'special' ways, but the Orlit gets the nod (slightly) as I found button pushes preferable to the dial on the Canon * Easier to read, display location - I like the big numbers on the back as opposed to Canon's smaller ones on the top. Just a personal preference. Again, only a slight pro Cons: * Unreliable - I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why a channel wouldn't fire. It seems that syncing with the RT 610 monolights could sort kinda work at timese, but not fully. On the monolight, if the Canon sync icon is green, its (in theory) fully sync'd. I had a lot of times where it wasn't green, but the monolight still responded to power settings. But, if not green, it wouldn't always fire. One of the lights, despite being green, didn't respond to remote modeling light on/off commands. I spent a great deal of time (hours) experimenting with power on/synch sequences and finally gave up trying to figure it all out since the Canon ST transmitter was much more reliable. NOTE: I was using the firmware version that came in both the Orlit monolights and transmitters (v 1.0). There are firmware updates available which may address the syncing and reliablity issues. While I tried to perform upgrades on all devices, I wasn't successful. Upgrades only work on Windows 7 (Adorama/Jinbei - really?!!). I have macs and my Windows VM is Windows 10. The upgrades just fail in my enviroment.

The buttons were very difficult to activate and pair with the slave unit

When I received the unit I spent many unsuccessful attempts to set it up with the orrlit and the canon flash. The buttons were very difficult to activate and pair with the slave units. I just sent it back and hope to replace it with a different type which I just noticed has been offered, It matches the backside of the Canon Speed lights.

Best trigger I have owned

Allowing full control of speedlights and the new ORLIT monolights with both TTL and HSS makes this a great trigger for the price. Yes it is plastic but what do you expect for $? With my RoveLight RT610 this provides quick and easy control of all it's functions including switching from manual to TTL and choosing 1st or 2nd curtain sync as well as HSS. I can also control the units modeling light.

Does the job

The transceiver for the Orlit does an adequate job, but feels cheap and looks cheap. The readout is dated. Still, it does what it needs to do.
