After using the Q6, this took some getting used to, but now I love it.

I purchased the Rovelight RT400 and the TR-Q7 Trigger Combo this past 2020 holiday season. This review is on both and how they work together. They arrived on time and in good condition. Once I finally had the chance to try to use them I found that the trigger would not fire the flash. I emailed Adorama Brands (Contact email for their Store Brand products). Earlier than expected I received a email back with a link to their Adorama site for Firmware Updates. When I had the chance I tried to update the Trigger. My Computer would not recognize the Trigger so I couldn't install the Firmware Update that I down loaded from the Adorama Brands "Orlit" firmware update page. Very puzzled by my computer not recognizing the trigger, I called the number and extension Adorama provided me in their email. A representative picked up and walked me through the process. Very helpful. Apparently you have to hold down the one of the Triggers "Soft Buttons". The Soft Button you hold down is located on the Far Right Side directly under the Screen. When you plug the TR-Q7 into your computer you must have this button depressed and continue to have it depressed throughout the process while its plugged into your computer. OK that's easy enough. Would be nice if this was clearly stated in the instructions or an addendum sheet added explaining the step by step process of how to update the trigger. Here's the complete update process so you don't kill off as many brain cells as I did should you choose to buy this Trigger. 1 - Down load the Update to your computer. 2 - On your computer, go to my computer. Right Click on My Computer. (windows 10). 3 - Depress the "Soft Button" located on the Far Right at the bottom of the Triggers screen. 4 - NOTE - Continue to depress the Soft button until you unplug your Trigger after the update is complete. 5 - With the Soft button depressed plug in the trigger. Your computer will now recognize the trigger as a USB device. 6 - Drag the Download update file into the USB (Trigger) device. The download update will load. 7 - Wait 5 Seconds AFTER the Device is updated to unplug. 8 - Power off the TR-Q7 trigger and then power it back on. The firmware should now read V 1.2. It's easy once you know what to do! Once the trigger is updated, go to page 7 on your TR-Q7's Manual. It explains how to get into your "Options". Once in the set "Options" use your wheel to check how all the options are set. I changed only 2 of the available options as follows. You will need to set the Strobes Power you are connecting to so option "Flash W" may need to be changed. In my case my trigger came showing 600 and my Strobe is 400 so I changed it to 400. Second - You may possibly need to toggle the Soft Button EF / Flash so that it shows / reads Flash. Mine came showing EF. Once these were completed the Rovelight RT 400 works perfectly with the TR-Q7 Trigger. If I ever have to buy another TR-Q7 trigger it will be a breeze to set up. What I like about the TR-Q7 Trigger - It's ease of use and super easy to read Screen. I can turn on and off the Modeling light from the Trigger. The fact that It's universal. I shoot Nikon but if I should ever pick up a different brand of camera for any reason I can just change the Camera Brand Setting and BOOM, I'm ready to roll! I haven't used it a lot yet, but so far no miss fires between it and the Rovelight RT 400. What I wish was better about the TR-Q 7 Trigger - I wish that the scroll wheel had a rubberized surface rather than the hard plastic. Would be much easier to use, less slippery. Heck a 12 dollar mouse has a rubberized surface on it's scroll wheel! Why cheap out on the scroll wheel? I also wish that it had much better set up instructions. What I like about the Rovelight RT 400 Strobe - its size and weight, Glass cover protecting the Flash Bulb, the included case which is really nice, the magnetic gels that are included, It uses Bowens Mount modifiers, the battery life indicator and it's easy to read setting from a distance. A feature rich portable strobe that didn't break the bank! What I Don't like about the Rovelight RT 400 Strobe - So far nothing. I have yet to notice any color shit. It seems to remain constant. Short one star on the TR-Q7 only because of the set up instructions and the failure to rubberize the Scroll wheel.

Trigger is setup nicely. Easy to use but takes a bit longer than expected when connecting to the Rovelight 610 using the Canon RT mode. 30 days in and almost no use at all.. the unit has locked up on me. It has become totally unresponsive. The screen is frozen, buttons get no response at all, and I cannot even power down the unit. Nothing works. Not sure if there is some way to get around this problem but I'm planning to send it in the have it replaced under the 2 year warranty. Hopefully this is a fluke and the next one works without any issues.

I’ve had this trigger since around Jan 2020 (I’m writing this review in May 2020). The reason I got it was in case I possibly added more strobes to the 3 I have and I liked the design a lot better being the transmitter stands straight up so you don’t have to keep looking down at the display. However last night while shooting the selection knob in the middle broke and just keeps spinning and can’t adjust anything now. Luckily I still have my older one that came with the 610. Keep in mind I’m one who takes very good care of all of my equipment. I haven’t had any other issues (misfires/battery problems). If you have 3 or less strobes I’d probably suggest sticking to the other transmitter.

I really wanted to like this transmitter as it seemed to be a solid upgrade from the TR-Q7 PROS 1) I like the design and the ability to tilt the display at various angles. 2) The color display is nice. CONS 1) It misfires. A LOT. It successfully triggers the strobe (RT-610) around 30% of the time. That means this trigger misfires around 70% of the time. Additionally, if you have two strobes, it compounds the misfires and reduces the chance of actually firing both strobes simultaneously to around 20%. There is no rhyme or reason to which one will fire or not fire. 2) The construction feels pretty cheap compared to the TR-Q6. Even though they’re both plastic, the TR-Q7 feels like it’s a thinner, cheaper plastic. No real heft to it. 3) Even though I fully charged the battery it was always said it was one notch below full. So I couldn’t trust the battery level. 4) The instructions are incorrect with how to access the menu options to turn Bluetooth on/off, etc. I'm

Great trigger. The 6 worked well but the buttons became less responsive over time. The wheel is much easier to use and saves time. I have the Orlit Rovelight 610TTL w HSS. You will need to do a firmware update on the flash head which will take all of a couple of minutes.

Nice unit but I wish rechargeable battery life was a little longer. Unlike the previous trigger, this uses built-in batteries and you can't just change them out like alkaline types.

This thing is freaking amazing! I have had both of the other TR-Q’s and this by far is the best. No miss fires love the rechargeable battery. In studio and on location it has just been amazing Good work.
