The stand feels sturdy.  I was a bit surprised by how tall it is, and was able to get a useful height for my desk by going one section lower than the shortest intended height.  The bottom wasn't perfectly flat after that, but letting the corner hang over the back of the desk allows it to be stable.  It works nicely for a larger 15.6" laptop, which I wasn't sure it would when I ordered it.
