For my first time cleaning with this kit, I threaded together the two brass rods and the patch holder and tried to push a patch through. It turns out, the bore brush and mop are marked .25 caliber (why, in a .223 cleaning kit??) but the patch holder also is oversized. The result? Patch gets stuck. I don't push too hard, and it comes out of the chamber fine, but the brass rods practically fused together, and the entire threaded male end of one rod broke off before they would unthread (eventually, using two pairs of pliers biting hard enough into the brass to bite into the metal). Now most of the rest of the kit is useless. Yay. (Not that the plastic nylon brush head was a great idea; the threading barely even fit in the cleaning rod and it flexed horribly while using it.)

I use this kit in the field for checking the bore and for cleaning my Ruger Mini 14 and 30/30 Winchester. Because it is difficult to clean these guns chamber to muzzle with regular rod. It is compact and fits easily into my daypack.

I have yet to see a video or detailed instructions on what all these cleaning parts are used for. Fast talking, music playing, dark videos not cutting it for me. I am not new to cleaning any gun but so many parts and pieces with no explanation. I could not recommend this product specifically because of lack of info, I do use and have used pieces of tools that are included in this kit.

Using this cleaning kit is a charm. So much better to pull through than push a rod. Read about Otis in a gun cleaning thread and had to check it out. Glad I did. Instead of the supplied soft case, I removed all the parts and just use the plastic shipping case. Much easier for access to parts and parts are more visible. I use it on a .308 DPMS style semi-auto.

First attempt to use a new Otis flexible cable cleaning system in my LWRC 223/5.56 AR resulted in a hopelessly stuck oversized swab just in front of the chamber. No amount of pushing or pulling would dislodge it. (Operator error...) A Saturday evening request for help via the Otis website received an unexpected reply with offered suggestions from Matt Ferland: Technical Sales Manager. His recommendations worked like a charm and despite damaging the cable by my efforts, Matt offered to replace free of charge. At a time when the firearms and related industries are constantly under fire from so many sources, it's remarkably refreshing to experience amazing customer service as I have from the folks at Otis. Hats off to this company.
