Otis' BONE tool was effective -- but no more effective than much cheaper flat, more compact, and lighter bolt carrier group cleaning tools I've used in the past. Like a relatively few of the other higher quality brands, I'd recommend this Otis tool specifically because I do trust the brand to deliver a quality tool with the correct tolerances that won't damage my weapon. Would I buy this again, though? No -- it's taking up two to three times the weight and volume of other quality BCG cleaning tool I've used and does cost a bit more while delivering about the same results.

I ran 150 rounds through my DDM4 prior to cleaning. I wanted to see if their was anything this tool would find after what I consider a thorough cleaning using both metal/nylon brushes, CLP and lots of patches. Once I was satisfied with my cleaning I then started with the BONE tool in the bolt carrier, and just prior to bottoming out, I "felt" the resistance from leftover carbon stuck inside. I gave it a few twists and it easily bottomed out while twisting. I found some small bits of carbon in the blades. I then cleaned the bolt and firing pin. I definitely got some stubborn carbon removed from the bolt and a small amount from the firing pin as well. Overall, I think it's a great tool and definitely does a thorough carbon removal of the small stubborn leftovers !! I will now definitely start with this tool prior to the normal cleaning process.

Great tool received it from my kid for Christmas. This will make cleaning your bcg easier than ever. Went to the range today and when the firing line went cold I went to check out my target. After a few shots I got a light primer strike took the bcg out and guess what?.. Someone stole my bone I've never had anything like this happen there before. I am beyond frustrated not just because it was a great tool but mainly because my 13 year old spent his own money on it because he knew my older tool from a different manufacturer had broke. KEEP IT IN YOUR POCKET AT THE RANGE IF SOME HEATHENS ARE THERE!

Does a good job on LR-308 bolt carrier, but a bit too heavy for anything but a home or shop cleaning kit. Certainly the cutter/scraper surfaces need to be steel, but making the whole thing from steel leaves me with something close to the weight of an AR buffer. You can do better, Otis

I recommend that everyone carries one of these in their AR pistol grip if it allows it. So handy if you don't want to carry a ton of kit around.

I informed owner of Primary Arms selling there stuff at a cheaper price, not only did he best the price, lower shipping price, but instantly refunded amount difference. Wish they sold other items; I wouldn’t buy from anyone else. Great Job!

Best tool ever for those hard to reach places on the bolt carrier group where the build up happens!!

This is an outstanding tool for cleaning. However, the pieces to be cleaned fit a bit loose in the tool. You may want to tighten it up just a bit.

I purchased 16 of these bone tools for 5.56 for our mobile firearms training team. They do an excellent job of cleaning out the bolt carrier and end of the bolt. Both areas where AR's get filthy and cause problems. They get about 85% of the carbon out and all you have to do is get at the last bit manually. Saves 15-20 minutes of cleaning for our candidates. I highly recommend this tool and keep one in my personal kit always.

This is one bad MSR Tool. It does it's job with ease. It's a "Take no Prisioner kind of Tool"! It gets the job done in a down & dirty kind of way. It's the best tool of its kind. Big, beefy & bold. I have one in each MSR rifle case.

The BONE tool has a guaranteed spot in my leave-behind cleaning kit. It is useful for making quick work of caked-on carbon and doesn't require me to slowly destroy a brush or chisel away slowly with a pick. I have tested it with a military rifle as well as my personal AR. It's useful enough to justify the price and whenever I'm using it, people always ask if they can too. The only down side is the weight. It is a very sturdy and durable tool... clearly made to last. However, as an infantryman, I cannot justify putting it in my portable Otis kit as it adds unnecessary weight. We have a saying, "Ounces equal pounds, pounds equal pain." This is definitely not an addition for a portable cleaning kit (unless weight is no concern) but otherwise a worthwhile purchase through and through. Well made, works on milspec ARs, and durable.
