Full disclosure: I received this for free from a customer service representative making things right after another OTIS product was a disappointment (although primarily because I broke it after using it in an unexpected way). Great customer support. I've now had a chance to use it with my 22LR rifle and pistol. It's similar in concept to a regular bore snake, except for the internal cable and the modular brush holder at the end. This means it's inflexible: it's a little bit harder to feed into the firearm's chamber. On the other hand, it's stiff enough that you *could* use it, in a pinch, to push out a stuck 22LR casing. It feels substantially tougher than other bore snakes. I also appreciate that you can simply use it without a brush to wipe loose material out of the barrel without scraping the barrel with each pass. Altogether, these will probably replace my bore snake in my portable gun cleaning kit builds from now on. Thanks, Jared!

I bought this and the Otis patch & cable cleaning system for my new sporting O/U shotgun. I have had nothing but issues with the cable system, as the attachments come unscrewed, get stuck in the barrel, etc. or the patches maybe get 1 use before needing a new one, which isn't very efficient or effective. I tried the Ripcord next and after 2 passes, the barrels were sparkly clean. I used the Shooter's Choice Shotgun & Choke cleaner, let it sit for 15 minutes or so, and the Ripcord got it all out no problem. I recommend and will be buying though another Ripcord (as well as two 20ga models) for 'dirty' and 'clean/lube' uses, as you don't want your really dirty cable used for final passes with lube or rust preventer. I used this '2 snake' method with the Hoppe's cords as well, and it works great. Worth it, to forget about patches, brushes, etc. as long as you keep up with regular maintenance. May need a wand and the traditional brush and patch method for a totally junked up gun, but I never let it get that bad!

The ripcord description says "Equipped with 8-32 threaded ends to fit all Otis cleaning components" Well, the .22 cal limited breech brush and mop have that I bought to clean my 10-22s has 5-40 threads and will not fit the .22 ripcord or most other flexible cleaning devices. Useless. Just Useless. Now what? Know any other manufactures that sell 5-40 ropes/snakes?

I first tried the 22 cal due to the semi-autos and single shots that I have. Regular pull cord just did not work well. I tried the 22 cal and was delighted on the ease of use, the options of adding brusheds and patch holders. When you can't get access to the barrel your cords are flexable enough to use and clean well. Since than I have purchased 24, 30, and 35 cal.

Works great, it's a little bit awkward to pull through my 1911, but that is because it is meant to be used on 0.45 caliber rifles also. Word to the wise, this bore snake will NOT go through a 0.44 magnum barrel. Nearly got mine stuck inside while attempting it.

This was an experiment for me as I have used Boar Snakes for years. But the Ripcord really surprised me. After shooting 300 rounds through my .22LR pistol I was amazed at how it cleaned the barrel with just one pass. If longevity is good, my Bore Snakes will get a long rest.

I really liked the larger diameter in one section of the pull cord. The pull cord worked exactly as I expected it to. I really like using this over the rods because I don't have to remove the brush after I pull it through the bore. I can just re-feed how ever many times are needed.

The product looks of high quality but I wasn't able to place standard attachment and fit the cable through my Ruger Mark III, plus the swell in the rope was a problem to pull through. Maybe there are proprietary attachments that will work, I haven't taken the time to research that yet.

Otis Ripcord is the best on the market. I got a .223 the same time I got a 30 cal and love them both. Far superior to other products I've used. I've moved to Otis prices exclusively for all my cleaning needs. Can't go wrong with any of their products.

This bore cleaner works! It makes cleaning easy and less messy. Simple pull through design that allows you to attach brushes and or patches. You clean from breech to muzzle easily as you should always do. Small & compact so it's easily packed in a range bag. I purchased a couple of these-12GA & 20GA- for an out of state hunting trip. I wanted something that was small, lightweight and efficient at doing a thorough job cleaning. Purchased 2 of these, thinking I may need to replace the first one after 200 rounds or so. Boy was I wrong. I spray the Ripcord with 'Break Free' CLP after every visit to the range; and, every couple of weeks during the coldest winter months when I'm not at the range. The best advice I can offer is to allow the Ripcord to dry in open air (room temp) after use for a day or so before packing it away. That is how I do it and my first Ripcord is still going strong; also, it sure beats a rod! Thank you OTIS.

Used it on a Finnish Mosin M39, Japanese Type 99 Arisaka, and a Finnish M28/30. The Ripcord worked extremely well and made normal cleaning at home using traditional methods cleaning with patches and oiling after easier.

I like these cleaners! It is the most effective pull-through cleaning tool to use in the field for me. I find it to be more thorough than others I have used. The ability to add a new (not worn out) brush to enhance the cleaning gives me more consistency and removes the concerns of a fouled barrel affecting accuracy.
