This projector is a great value for money. The specs stood out during my research and so I decided to buy. After 6-7 months of normal usage (3-4 hrs per week), the projector is now making some load noise (may be the fan noise, may be overheating).

I'm very happy with the HD27. I thought about purchasing the HD143x, but ultimately decided to go with the HD27 because white was a less color obtrusive for my installation. I'm currently just projecting onto my wall, which is off white and textured. Even without using a screen, I'm happy with the quality. I'm sure the quality would only improve if I used a screen, but for now I've decided to forgo the eyesore of a big screen on the wall. I find movies to be more enjoyable when viewed from a projector, as the reflected light is easier on the eyes than the projected light of a screen. Plus depending on the placement of your projector, you can have a theatre like experience. I'm pushing 95 inches. Even with that size projection area I have no issue with brightness even if a few lights are on in the room.

This unit is simply fantastic value for money. Picture clarity is stunning and my little girly just love to to dig in her animation collection (frozen, Ice Age, Monster Inc etc) - she just love it on the big screen !!! Built in sound is good but MUCH better with Soundbar !!

I am struggling though to find the HDMI wireless dongle 'Optoma HD Pro Cast' in South Africa

If you think that "budget projector" means those under-powered, handheld projectors, then you should think again. Like most everything else in consumer electronics, serious, wall-filling home theater projectors are becoming cheaper and better -- and projectors like the Optoma HD27 are one of the elite.
This projector includes 3200 lumens with cinematic color displaying vibrant image quality!! Projector is 3D ready, has onboard speakers, is compact to take on the go, and is capable of fine image quality. Guess what? It has a gaming mode. Xbox One looks amazing!! Colors are excellent and black levels are perfect. The picture blows away any projector at this price range. The fan is quiet and can only slightly hear it when your sound is muted. You won't be able to find a better big-screen experience for this amount of money. One of the best electronic items Ive ever purchased. Love it!! (and so do my kids

The picture quality is good; vivid color, great detail, and it's plenty bright. The remote is backlit, which is nice. . .to a degree. The remote for this projector is SO BRIGHT, that in a darkened room it's a blinding blue color. The zoom adjustment for the projector is wholly inadequate. You have only about a 4-5 foot range span that this projector can be placed back from the screen. So if you want to place this super bright project at the back of a room and throw it across to a screen, that room better be no more than about 15-17 feet wall to wall. . . which if you're talking about a home theatre or a rec room, that's pretty small. So, now in my basement (which has a rather low ceiling), I have to hang this thing from the middle of the room. Bad. However the most problematic issue is that the video processing lag is unacceptable. The screen blanks out as you switch channels or change inputs, and it takes 4-10 second to recover. It's as if any major screen re-draw overtaxes the processing ability of the projector. Assuming that could be dealt with, the MOST egregious way this manifests itself is with the audio not matching with the video. So when you're watching a movie, the lip movement lags the sound. When playing video games, you're at a constant quarter-second to half-second delay over your opponent. That's wholly unacceptable.
