KEN F : are there instructions for assembly?KURT S : no instructions in the box I received, should be very straightforward to assemble though. NOTE this unit can not be used by its self, you must purchase a flash mount for the bars that come with the Octobox to be placed into. this is NOT a stand alone product. the web page does not make this clear and I am unable to get a mount for my Speedlite 600ex.KELVIN N : There are no instruction included. You have to go to Interfit site for instructions. You will have to order the Interfit Flex Mount for the type od flash you have. If your flash is not listed, you will have to measure across the widest part of the flash and cross reference. I hope this help!BRUCE E : No. This is not a stand-alone item. It needs a mount (accessary) to the flash. Instructions came with the mounting accessary.JERALD A : A year and a half later i STILL don't have an answer to that question! I bought it only to realize after receiving it that it needed an adapter ring to attach to the flash. The I find out that the ring for this octobox is no longer made. Waste of money.

Note: You will not be able to use the flash on camera, you will have to put it on a stand. Just look up the Interfit Flex Mount adapter and look for the one that fits your flash. By the way, it really works nice. You might also look for the other accessories like the barn doors and the honeycomb and snoot. I got them for my spare flash, the Vivitar 285. Another note: When you set this up, you will not want to break it down, so if you get any other accessories you will need another Interfit Flex Mount adapter.PAUL M. F : Hi. Yes, and adaptor IS required. Look at the Interfit's web site to determine the adaptor to fit your flash, I remember many were for Canon flashes. Be aware that some of the adaptors are not compatable with the octagonal softbox, since they mount only 4 rods, not eight. This fact was not apparent on Adorama's site, or Interfit's. This was the case for the only adaptor to fit my Nikon SB-600. I found the exception noted on the box. I happen to have the equipment to modify the adaptor (so it works), but you may not.

I got a lemon

I am giving this product 3 stars, because I already had one, and was very satisfied with it. It is very small, and that makes it easier to move around; but at the same time, the larger the light source, the softer the light. This one came INCOMPLETE: The plastic BASE that attaches to the flash was MISSING, so I have not been able to use it!

BEWARE - DOES NOT WORK WITH SB800

Although the SGM100 is listed as a recommended accessory. This unit DOES NOT WORK with the SGM100 and therefore is incompatible with Nikon strobes. The unit requires a lot of assembly instead of a popup like most others.

Nice light modifier

Nice construction and design except for when it comes to mounting. You also need to get an adapter for your flash in addition to this product. I wanted it for Vivitar 283, but they only had 285. Managed to adapt the 285 to my 283 with snap on filter holder.
