Questions & Answers

Amanda C : Can I use different chemicals with one tank? Can I develop black and white and color film (separately of course)?LIGGI F : Yes!MATTHEW S : I haven't had any issues with using different developing chemicals and methods. I would imagine as long as you are sure to thoroughly rinse all the equipment after each use, it should be fine.JASON H : Yes, you can. Thorough cleaning is important, but that's what your wash process is for, anyway.
Sergio P : Can i develope 120 mm film in this tank?RON S : Yes. Only one roll. One of the reels has to be extended to fit 120 film but is very easy to do. With the reel extended there is only room for one reel in the tank at a time.JAMES B : yesROBERT E : Absolutely. This size will accommodate 1 spool of 120 or 2 spools of 35mm.JOHN S : This reel will develop 35mm, 126, 127, 120 or 220mm film. Enjoy.TC R : Yes, but just one roll at a time.BRENT Y : Yes, I have.
Shopper : Does this come with 2 reels or just 1? I heard a few people say it comes with just 1.

Fantastic

I've used this tank for over a year now, 50+ rolls of 35mm and a couple 120 rolls, it's fantastic. Every now and again I have a little trouble rolling a roll of 36 shots on one of the spools, but I'm probably the problem. Taught my brother how to use this one as well.

Great purchase

Great system for my needs. I have a much older model but the seal on the lid dry-rotted and was forced to buy a replacement. I like the newer model much better...especially the lid.

The item is as described. It works really well. Keep the reels dry before using them again, and wash them thoroughly after use for best results.

The Industry Standard for a Reason

Excellent developing tank. Solid construction, easy-to-understand process of inserting film and pouring chemicals. I chose the 2-reel version so I can also develop 120 format (plastic reels are harder to load 120 film than stainless, but with a little practice it’s not an issue). This isn’t just a great product for beginners — it’s a highly-rated product period!

Easy tank & Reel system

This reel is so easy to use. This system comes with two reels that can expand to 120 size. Just slip the end of the film into the slot and just twist back-and-forth until you feel the end of the film. Its that easy. With Paterson, I experience no leakage. Overall, a great dependable product.

Great tank, easy to assemble in the dark

Paterson tanks are always reliable. Easy to load film onto the spiral, easy to put it all together in complete darkness. Only problem is the rubber cap is a bit difficult to put on quickly and agitate after pouring chemistry in, but that's why there's the convenient agitation rod, which I find I prefer using anyway.

The perfect tool for developing

It's a great tool that has lasting power. I bought it about 8 years ago thinking I was going to develop film and ended up shelving it. I pulled it out recently to used it and everything working perfectly. No light leaks at all.

Very good tank - could be better.

Bought it to process 127 film. When adjusted for anything other than 135 film it will only hold one roll of film at a time. Shortsightedness on Paterson's part. Easy loading spools are a plus. Fills and drains quickly.

Really fun and easy to use!

Super easy to use! I love it! I was able to develop 2 36exp films at once! Getting the film in a dark room (used my bathroom at night with all house lights turned off; remember to get rid of your phone and smart watch in case it goes off!!) proved a little difficult but once you figure out how the spindle works it was really easy. Just getting it started in the spindle was a little troublesome because you can’t see anything and doing it blind. Just have everything laid out before hand and remember where it is and you should be fine.

Easy too use not a fan of the lid.

Loading your film onto the reels is difficult at first because the small guides, but gets easier the more you do it. It took me 3 tries before I became a pro. I'd recommend this product it's easy to use. Be careful developing C-41, the chemicals are warm so if you rotate or agitate too quickly the lid will pop off and get chemicals all over you.

Excellent for first time developers

By ListerineTeeth

This is my first film tank and it's a great economical way to get into developing. I recommend buying a second reel, as the tank supports 2 for 35mm developing. The reels also come apart for cleaning and can be adjusted for 120 and 127 format film as well (And the tank is big enough for these too). Hasn't broken, despite bashing it against the bathroom counter, easy to open/close and pour in/out chemicals. Love the reels, simple to load in the dark and really quick once you get the hang of it...

Works great and very easy to use.

By ROBERT R.

I used to have steel reels and tank and I always found it difficult to put film on the reels. With this system, putting film on the reel is a snap. The reel also can be adjusted to fit 35mm and 120 film. The tank can be used as an inversion tank or a agitation tank (or a combination of both). Cleaning the tank is very easy and it seems to be able to take some abuse. I've dropped it a few times with no damage. The only negative I can find is that you need to be careful that the lid is seated c...

Because your film development process demands precision and reliability, the Universal Tank with Two Auto-Load Reels is an essential tool for both novice and professional photographers. Crafted from high-impact polystyrene, this tank is built to endure the rigors of high-volume usage while maintaining its integrity over time. Its design eliminates the frustration of hard-to-reach components, ensuring that the tank is always straightforward to clean and maintain.

The Super System 4 Tanks are not only robust but also ingeniously designed to facilitate a seamless film development experience. They are equipped with a unique snap-in light-trapping funnel that allows for rapid filling and emptying, safeguarding your film against uneven development and ensuring adherence to precise processing times. This system is versatile, offering multiple agitation methods to suit your preferred technique. Whether you opt for inversion agitation, rotary agitation with the included removable agitator rod, or a blend of both, you have the flexibility to achieve consistent results.

Attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the Super System 4's design. The funnel is engineered to lock securely in place, preventing reel movement during processing. This feature, coupled with a safety mechanism that prevents the cap from locking if the funnel is not correctly seated, ensures that your film remains safe throughout the development process. Additionally, the tanks are designed for a clean chemical pour, minimizing splash and waste, with solution quantities clearly marked on the tank's base for easy reference.

Compatibility and ease of use are key benefits of this system. All components are interchangeable, making the tank adaptable and user-friendly. The Paterson reels are designed for quick and effortless loading, accommodating a variety of film formats including 35mm, 126, 127, 120, and 220mm, without the risk of crimping or damaging the film. The reels feature a unique ball bearing ratchet system that simplifies the film loading process, making it virtually error-proof.

Constructed from acetyl resin, the reels are not only strong and resistant to chemicals but also capable of withstanding high temperatures during film drying. This durability ensures that your Universal Tank with Two Auto-Load Reels will be a reliable component of your photography equipment for years to come, providing you with the precision and quality necessary for exceptional film development.
