Having owned the AG HMR10 / AG UCK10 combo for years and using it for a variety of jobs I never expected a successor would finally come after as this is probably a niche system. Thankfully Panasonic chose to make an updated 4K successor and it addresses most of the shortcomings of the original. First, It uses full size long lasting batteries unlike the old model that only accepted the wimpy small ones unless you bought the adapter and strung a cable to use the bigger ones. And you don't have to buy the expensive new ones as the old CGR-D54 DVX100/HPX170/HPX270 batteries do indeed work with it. Second. It has a better LCD screen and it's touch. Third It can output HDMI and SDI simultaneously and also has some network capability Fourth It can record 4K UHD. But only at 50Mb/sec and only at 30P max. Fifth You can now set a gain limit which was not possible with the old unit. On the old one the only way to limit gain was to be in manual. There are more pros but I've only used it a few times so I'm still learning. Now for the cons. It doesn't come with a battery or charger. That's right. At the price this costs that is not good. It now allows focus peaking in color but will not allow focus peaking to be turned on when in autofocus mode which would be helpful. I contacted Panasonic about this and they said they forwarded my request to an engineer. I don't know if anything can or will be done. It has dual SD card slots but seems to only be able to use them to relay record and not dual record as a backup which is not good. The accessories just as before (hood, stand, cable) are very expensive. Nonetheless I bought them all for the new unit. If you want to tripod mount the UMR20 you have to have the stand. If you happen to still have the old cable for the HMR10/HCK10 it still works as it's the same as the new cable. The new unit has a LOT of fan vents which concerns me. It's like it is really pushing the limit and needs help cooling. Overall I am pleased with the worthy successor of the useful old POVCAM system and grateful Panasonic made it. It is much better than the old one.
