Panasonic AJ-YDX30G Proxy Encoder

The Panasonic AJ-YDX30G Proxy Board enables the HPX3100GJ P2 HD 2/3" camcorder to record compact proxy video files at selectable bit rates on SD memory cards. Meanwhile, the HPX3100 simultaneously records full-res, full-bit-rate video to P2 cards. Four H.264 and MPEG-4 proxy profiles are selectable, with image sizes ranging from 960x540 (3.5 Mb/s) down to 320x240 (1.5 Mb/s). Bit rates go as low as 800 kb/s in H.264 format.

The largest of the proxy profiles supports uncompressed audio, so an audio cut can be committed even before full-resolution video is available to the nonlinear editing system. The small size and relative high quality of the proxy encoding make the AJ-YDX30G board suitable for high-volume, high-speed editing workflows such as those required for reality TV and long-form documentary work. The proxy board essentially creates instant offline files for logging, review and edit on leading NLEs.
