Questions & Answers

JB J : since this panasonic BDT220 has built in wifi, can or will it update when they come out like a computer or other devices?Darek J : As long as there is a router near by or hot spot to connect to the internet, it will check for updates for the firmware (you can manually check as well as long as you have a net connection established with the device). I've updated it twice already, and the 2nd firmware update increased the responsiveness quite a bit!MICHAEL W : Well you will have to go into the menu options and check for updates, every once and a while, but they are usually short and the system does the rest. Just follow the instructions on the screen. I connected mine to my PC.GARY E : Yes, It can monitor for updates or you can check for them manually.CRAIG J : This BD player will automatically pull down software updates when it goes into the wireless mode to always keep it current at all times.SCOTT M : I assume that you are talking about the firmware. Yes, it will automatically update the firmware, but you have to enable that in settings. My suggestion would be to update it as soon as you set it up and then set it to automatically update after that However, there are two things that you should know about this hardware. 1. This is a 2012 model, that has been replaced by a 2013 model. 2. After updating the firmware, it would only sporadically read discs and got progressively worse till it wouldn't read them at all. As a result. I returned it to Panasonic for replacement. I had to pay for shipping on that return. They did acknowledge receipt of my unit, but three weeks later I'm still waiting for the replacement to arrive. KEVIN T : If by "update" you mean will the player update its own firmware over the Wi-Fi connection, the answer is yes. Once an internet connection (either through a network cable or Wi-Fi) is made, the player automatically checks to see if its firmware is the most current version, and if it is not, the new version is downloaded and installed, without any need to burn it to a CD-R or DVD-R, or take any other installation steps. It therefore updates its firmware much like Microsoft Windows computers update themselves by connecting to Windows Update. See page 13 of the Owner's Manual, which is available on the manufacturer's website.
BURTON S : Is this a Brand New unit - not returned or refurbished?WILLIE B : Yes, it is brand new.DAVID L : Yes. I bought one Jan 29 2013---I got a new unit. It is a beautiful machine, and a joy to use. I play Blu-Ray and DVDs from NetFlix, as well as NetFlix instant over wi-fi. It seems faster to upload than the Roku I had been using with a 20 year old Panasonic 27" TV. I have the Blu Ray player connected by HDMI to my new Panasonic 55UT50 plasma TV. Both have worked perfectly so far.ROBERT S : It is brand new as far as I can tell. All new and sealed packaging. Unit is fine.RONNIE B : I received a brand new unit complete w manual. Unit is in excellent condition n works well. No problem w set up and setting Netflix to work was a breeze. Everything was perfect. DOUGLASS F : I bought this as a 'new'Blu-Ray disc player and not as a refurbished item from Adorama.LAURA C : Brand new. Very satisfied with it. GREG C : When I purchased it it was new.EARL F : New. And this is a great unit. Right now I am listening to some old CDs on it. Perfect!
Shopper : Does this work in the vertical position?WILLIE B : Don't know, I haven't tried it.THEODORE T : I have never used this in the verticle position. It is fairly narrow and unless constrained I would worry about it flipping over. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you. I do love the player. The only problem I have had is that on occasion the flip door on the from will stick.

Works Great!

I purchased this BR player so I could watch 3D on my new 3D TV. It works great, and it is very easy to install and use.

Great BlueRay player

Very quick loading BlueRay player. Built in WiFi and software updates to keep it current! I have 2 of these plays in our beach house and one at home. We have had no issues using them - and they play Netflix nicely. 3D replays nicely on our Panasonic TC-P60ST50. Would recommend this player!

Good player; Netflix slow to load

This is a player that performs well (which one doesn't?) and is reasonably fast at loading BluRay discs. On the plus side, you can use it to watch YouTube videos, which is not the case with all the systems. On the other hand, it is terribly slow at loading Netflix (the app itself, not the movies). If you are going to use Netflix a lot, I would rather recommend a Roku 3 which is much faster.

Panasonic DMP-BDT220

Had this one for just about a month. Chose this model on reasonable price and list of standard features incl. streaming. Its worked great on BR disks, DVDs, and streaming has been excellent. Would recommend to a casual home movie watcher.

Lots of bells and whistles for less

I replaced my 6 month old Sony BluRay player with this Panasonic. The Sony player took forever to load a disc and the internet apps too. Total waste of time. This Panasonic is superior to the Sony in everyway.

Fine Player, Best Price

Adorama had by far the best price. This unit was one of the highest rated Blu-Ray players by Consumer Reports and better than some others rated higher in quality of standard DVD image.

Easy to use Blu-Ray player

I typically have 2 or 3 players/transports and a Panasonic player is usually among them. They've always been reliable. This BDT220 had trouble with a Netflix blu-ray rental, even after the firmware was updated. That sort of problem can come up, mostly with rental discs, and its why I always have another brand player in the setup (it played that Netflix disc). Other than that it has worked without any problem.

For the price, hard to beat

Easy to setup - used the wired connection to Internet thru Verizon - no Issues - updated firmware quickly. Easy to navigate menu Picture quality great - direct attach to TV thru HDMI but send Audio thru Optical to decoder. USB thumb drive with all music inserted - plays as expected - Shows Folder titles and song titles. Goes to Screen saver a little quick - but not an issue.

I would buy this product again

Did not have any of the problems other reviewers had. Netflix works fine. Only takes about 15 seconds to connect. After that have not had any drop outs. Perhaps my Cox modem and internet speed is faster than the other reviewers with problems. Also, some folks create their own problems and are never satisfied.

Good player - Wish UI were a bit nicer

The player received great marks all around the internet and I can see why; it performs very well and has great apps to access online streaming services. Player boots discs quickly and playback quality is top notch. As a bonus, I like the ability to control the player with my smartphone. The only qualm is that the user interface isn't ... well, user friendly. Maybe it's because I'm accustom to the fancy bells and whistles that surround us on all our other electronic devices. Not a deal breaker, but something that could use improvement.

Great for blu-ray

Using with a Panasonic 3D LED-LCD TV. 3D bluray works great, DVD's work great. DLNA wouldn't play anything that my Panasonic TV plays! And there's no software updates available (1 was found when I first hooked it up, about one month ago).

Great BLU-RAY player, minimum compromise

Great product, works as expected, I wish it had support to ultraviolet and that skype works with other USB cameras than those expensive ones from Panasonic. Mobile app is a good replacement to a full keyboard remote.

Best Blu-Ray for the price on the Market

Absolutely the best Blu-Ray for the price on the market bar none! It was really easy to set up and the Wireless is terrific enabling me to get Pandora music off the internet 24/7! It has an ultra lightweight design and is very small and thin so it hardly take up any room at all. The remote is very well designed also....can't beat it. Hooah!

Best Blu-Ray Player?

I had bought and returned several wireless Blu-Ray players, at a competitors store, because they were slow and/or difficult to use. I had even returned another Panasonic with a cell phone type remote that I couldn't seem to master. Then I ran across the Panasonic DMP-BDT220 here at Adorama. Perfect streaming at 1090p. The deal was excellent and the transaction was as perfect as I have come to expect from several deals at Adorama.

Great Blu-Ray Player

By EARL F.

Great job Panasonic! Very intelligent electronics, especially when coupled with new Panasonic LCD/LED TV Slim design fits in tight space. This unit made my 3 year old Blu-Ray player seem like it was from the days of 8 track tapes! The only thing I had trouble with was setting up the WiFi and the individual users. The software for setup and wireless choices is kind of cumbersome to choose what you want to do.
