Finally a camcorder that would capture this road-tripping, outdoorsy, vacationing family of 4 all in one shot, thanks to the twin camera. For a while now we have used the JVC Everio R Quad Proof, but look at the clips and mommy is mission or me, daddy. Why? Well, someone has to hold the camera. So I went ahead and got this camcorder for our 2018 Spring break. FANTASTIC CAMCORDER!!! From packing for the trim, to every mile of the way, we enjoyed using this camcorder. One day into the vacation, a nights rest after a long drive and it was finally time for the indoor water park... It was all WONDERFUL... Until daddy forgot.... this is not the JVC and cannon balled into the pool with the camcorder. BYE BYE Panasonic... and memories of this long planed vacation. Our Samsung Galaxy S7 Active phones had to step in and try to save wee, being waterproof and all but could not storage the task. SO PANASONIC, if you could waterproof this camcorder (you don't even have to make it JVC/APOCALYPSE ready), it would indeed be the PERFECT CAMCORDER. P.S. I will be buying another one but will be anticipating the WATERPROOFED model. Love you Panasonic.

I actually purchased this model for the August 21st 2017 USA Solar Eclipse event, due to it's best feature - it's incredible 90x iZoom - that full-framed the sun (using a certified, sunlight filter on it) in the video capture. I found this degree of zoom would fill the frame perfectly. The iZooms on Panasonic camcorders blow me away with their impressive level of quality, looking like pure optical zoom extensions, although an interpolation between optical and digital zooms. This model has Panasonic's greatest iZoom level of 90x that is only found in a few mid-line models and no high-end ones. I got the camcorder on he basis of this superlative zoom alone, but it has other nicities. It has high-end models' HDR Movie Mode that opens up shadows and prevents highlights washouts for best rendering of high contrast scenes. It sports a twin camera system for picture-in-picture capture of primary camcorder front lens and the small rotatable lcd display door 2nd lens subjects, so you could, say, do a selfie narration of the event as it happens in your small window. That's a cool option, or you could shoot anything else, forward or back, to include simultaneously in the shoot. You probably won't use the twin camera mode much, but it's still nice to use on occassion. It also allows remote viewing of the camcorder video from your smartphone using WiFi during recording. The build quality seems good, nothing flimsy. It's nicely small and lightweight , making it easier to handhold for long periods, I find. There is also their quite impressive 5-axis OIS (optical image stabilization) system that, especially in combination with the iZoom, gives pretty good little to no shake videos - really important at 90x zoom level. As for cons, the auto white balance indoors can take a while to kick in at times and I have had the unit lock up unresponsive at times when trying to switch between rec and play modes button (pulling and re-inserting battery solves). It's worthwhile!
