Great equipment, good service

This is a great camera. I searched all over the web for one more to add to an existing set. Adorama showed having it in stock on the website. I called to verify it was actually in stock ( two other online retailers showed it in stock but it actually wasn’t) and they indeed had it, and got me a great price on it. Adorama use to be my 3rd or 4th place to look. But now it’s becoming my first.

OUTDOOR CAMERA ONLY

The low light on this camera makes it almost unusable for interviews indoors. I have set up multiple lights to make my other cameras look great but the HC-X1 looks extremely grainy. I even have a canon 70D with a cheap 50mm lens that is not even made for video that does better in low light than this camera. I have no idea why it is so expensive. It is extremely bulky too. Yes, it is nice to have the zoom and audio features but it is not worth the price. You are much better off buying a Panasonic GH5.

pro bundle stuff

I'm only giving this 4 stars because of the pro bundle accessories. It was only ($) extra but I think the pro bundle should have been thought through properly. The messenger camera bag is too small for the hc-x1, I can't get the microphone battery door to close, the led light doesn't even come with a battery, and there is a lens cap leash included to use on a camcorder that doesn't even have a lens cap. The other accessories are ok. Now the hc-x1 is a beautiful camcorder. I just wish it came with a shoulder strap.

Great pro camcorder

The camera looks real nice, but the view screen it's to small hard to make out the screen especially when your outside. Still learning it had a canon hx-a1 but tape when out so I got this Panasonic, did a test run outside did a few 4k clips really nice. Got a few events coming up that will be the true outcome for me.

For Beginner's Only

Great for daytime "out-in-the-field" work and well lite studios, but not much of anything else. Good camera for beginners who don't really know what they are doing but it take a real professional with in depth knowledge of lighting and vidography to work this camera to it's full potential.... which isn't anything to really brag about.

Great Camera for Production

I looked at a lot of other camera's and made my decision on two things. The first reason was I have owned many different camera's and my last two were Panasonic and they did very well without any problems. My second reason was for the price it offered everything I needed and will probably ever need for what I do. I am very satisfied with this camera and would recommend it to anyone just starting out.

Big A.

Get it for the lens

Had it now for about 3 weeks from Adorama. They're hard to get, because so in demand. Longer thoughts below, but if you're in a hurry there's one thing that sells this camera: the lens. I upgraded from a Sony EX-1, and I really liked it, but always frustrated at the lack of wide angle. You'll be stunned how beautiful this lens is at full wide. And the range is incredible. 2nd thing that really sells this camera is the UHD 59.95p format. If you've never seen it, it's far more crisp and clear looking than UHD/4K 29.97 or 23.97. My only complaint is the latency in the viewfinder. There's a good 5 frame or so delay, and if you're filming an interview, your sound person is going to have to get used to the pronounced delay. Note this camera does not shoot in 4:2:2 and does not have a log output. That's something I wish I had. But the footage I'm getting back is incredibly clear. This lens is much better than the one from my EX-1. Shot a soccer game that took place at dusk under lights. Shot in full auto, and the auto-focus tracking was amazing. You can customize this camera's look almost infinitely. But unlike most cameras, this really does work very well in full auto. So far I wouldn't ever hesitate to throw it in Auto and start running and gunning in a documentary situation. It has a solid feel. I mean, not as solid as the mostly metal build of my old Sony EX-1, but solid for a 2017 Camcorder under $4K. The hybrid OIS is very very solid and doesn't have that weird, robotic, drift look. I know they advertise the larger sensor. But it's not going to give you the bokeh of a full-frame DSLR. It's just not. So if you want super shallow focus, don't get this. But it's future-proofed with the 59.95p UHD format, and again, the lens gets SO wide for a Camcorder and I can't stress how much that wide lens option is going to enhance the footage you deliver.

Far from the quality I expected.

I wanted to love it. I spent over two weeks buying support equipment, experimenting with settings and trying to convince myself "It would be alright". Even bought an expensive noise reducer plug-in to help get rid of the noise. I then realized, I've spent too much time and money and it is not alright and I'm returning everything at great cost to me for shipping items back. Manual is poorly written and already updated less then a week from the cameras release and it still is extremely lacking. The camera is very tweak-able, but you have to tweak it for every setting, so forget "Run and Gun" as you will have to constantly adjust your setting. To sum it up, Sensor is noisy unless you are is full light. 120 slo-mo is soft. White and Black Balance is needed constantly to help prevent the sensors support system from broadcasting unnecessary noise. Sadly it is another poorly designed camcorder that is a pain to use. Me: 17 year pro that was hoping to return to a camcorder after 10 years using a full frame DSLR.

The Panasonic HC X1 is a fantastic camcorder. It's easy to set up and easy-to-use. I highly recommend it for all of your videography needs.

Designed for Professional Recording

The light, compact Panasonic HC-X1 4K camcorder professional supports 4K 24p, UHD 60p/50p, FHD 60p/50p multi-format recording and HD super slow-motion. Plus it includes a wide 24mm angle LEICA DICOMAR 4K Lens 20x zoom.

Designed for Professional Recording
LEICA DICOMAR 4K Lens

LEICA DICOMAR 4K Lens

The new high performance LEICA DICOMAR 24mm 4K Lens delivers 24mm* at the wide-angle setting with little distortion. A perfect solution for recording in tight and narrow spaces.

*35mm film camera equivalent at 4K 24p (aspect ratio 17:9). 25.4mm for UHD/FHD (aspect ratio 16:9).

4-Drive Lens System

The HC-X1 comes complete with a 4-Drive Lens System that simultaneously and independently drives 4 lens groups (group 2, iris, group 3, group 4). Lens size and drive range for each of the 4 groups can be efficiently suppressed to optimize image quality and zoom power.

4-Drive Lens System
5-Axis HYBRID O.I.S. and 20X Optical Zoom

5-Axis HYBRID O.I.S.

By using hand-shake correction that combines the effects of both optical and electronic image stabilization in HD shooting modes, hand-shake in various directions is detected and corrected.

20X Optical Zoom

The optical 20X zoom lens covers the range from 24mm wide-angle to 480mm telescopic (35mm film equivalent at 4K 24p). And the lens can quickly zoom from wide-angle to telescopic.

Advanced O.I.S.

With the HC-X1 O.I.S., the correction area has been expanded to approximately 900%. An advantage that provides powerful correction even in unstable shooting situations, and greatly improves correction for small-amplitude hand-shake.

The effective MOS (approx. 9.46 megapixels in 4K 24p, and approx. 8.79 megapixels in UHD/FHD) offers an appropriate depth of field and excellent balance between image quality and sensitivity. 4K 24p, UHD 60p/50p, FHD 60p/50p multi-format, and HD 120-fps (59.94Hz)/100-fps (50Hz) super slow-motion recording are possible.
