Peak Design Travel Tripod Replacement Tool Kit

Lost the original and received a replacement (FOC, thank you!). The replacement also fell out of the holder and is now lost. Love the Tripod, the tool, while a very good idea, execution on the holder needs improvement?. Perhaps a magnet would suffice. Looking for design credit if adapted. :)

Had to buy a replacement of this from the original included with the tripod after the tool fell out somewhere in the field and was lost, and now I can see why this happens. The tool seems like it fits snugly enough in the holder/leg clip when the holder is not clipped onto a tripod leg. BUT, when you snap the leg clip on, something about the way it stretches around the tripod leg makes the tool noticeably looser and much more prone to fall out and be lost. I tested this on the original leg clip and the replacement in the tool kit, and the issue was the same (this was on the aluminum version of the tripod). I can see how this might have been overlooked in product testing, since the tool does stay in the leg clip well when you are just holding it, but once clipped on it has a critical flaw. Leaving this feedback in the hopes that this can be fixed in future versions...having to buy replacements for this repeatedly will get old fast.

So, We all agree its a well designed tool that is easy to lose. I've lost two. You can't just replace the hex tool, so it's $30 plus every time to buy the kit, most of which you don't need.. Many complaints about how easy it slips out. Yet no redesign or solution. Perhaps the company is getting too big to focus on the small things, like customer service. Hope not!

Lost mine the 2nd time I used the tripod. Doesn't stick on the holder very well. The product it good, just frustrating to lose it so fast.

My wrench got lost in darkness when shooting auroras in -20C. Peak design answered the emails immediately and shipped the replacement wrench the next day.

Great invention, I have this little buddy with me on a tripod all the time and when I need to use it, I dont have to go and dig my backpack, but with simple movement I pick this up from a tripod, use it and put it back. Easy as breathing!

Attaching a virtually universal tool for the tripod is a brilliant idea but the execution is fatally flawed - the tool cannot be secured in the provided plastic holder and drops out on even the lightest hike. When carried with Peak's own strap system, attached as intended, the heavier head is always going to be pointing downward as some point. That's, of course, the orientation in which the tool most easily slips out of the holder. Hop over one rock and the tool is gone forever. I've lost two in a little over 6 months. The tool itself is great. The holder needs to be redesigned.

Peak does an amazing job on their thought and design process. Having this tool on the tripod is very handy, I use it to quickly shift between my Gimble and the ball head on my Peak design tripod. The TriPod itself is amazingly sturdy and light. Unfortunately the plastic housing that holds the tool which snaps onto the tripod leg easily gets lost . I was out in frigid single digit temps and lost the plastic housing sleeve and tool. This is my 2nd tool i've lost this way. i have rigged my tripod to keep the old plastic housing from my last tool on the tripod leg and it serves as a sort of a lid to prevent the second tool from getting knocked out, This time the whole plastic housing portion got knocked off... i was out chasing.a Stellers Sea Eagle in Boothbay Maine and am sure i was hurried and rushed in my Tri pod handling. That said, there must be a way to secure the plastic piece as well as put a cap on the tool to prevent it from being unintentionally launched from it's holder. C'mon guys and gals of Peak.. You got this!!!

You guys are great with warranty. But a couple issues. The piece is too easy to lose and it doesn't have enough leverage when the tripod piece gets tight on the camera. I needed a vise to do that. Would love to know why. Still waiting for something that keeps it tethered to the tripod.

Having this tool this handy is great. Location of the tool holder Inside the legs seems to make sense but there is a lot of actions around those legs which allowed need to lose my tool on my first outing. Moving the location to the top of the tripod would minimize interference immensley!

I own the Aluminum Travel Tripod and love it. I definitely like that they give you the tools that you need to maintain and adjust the tripod. Everything is right there so you can do it when you are on the go. The one complaint I have is I wish the tool snapped into its holder a little more firmly. I have already lost the tool once (and thus purchased a replacement. I know when I went out I had it, and when I got back it was gone. My best guess is I knocked it out of its holder while putting the tripod in or out of its bag. I now pay a little more attention to try not to lose another (The tool is good quality, but not cheap). Sure enough, one time I looked it was half out of its holder. Not a major issue, but losing another one will definitely irk me a little.

My little tool kit came loose on the tripod and was lost in the dark in the mountains waiting for sunrise. I ordered a replacement and mentioned that it was always coming loose. I got an instant reply that it was indeed a fault of the original build and they would not charge me for the new kit. I was very impressed and am very happy with the tripod but even more do with the customer service
