Peak Design Travel Tripod Replacement Phone Mount

I will be getting my 2nd replacement now. Why buy this again? We?ll unfortunately it?s the only one that conveniently stows away inside the tripod they make. Why the 2 stars? Because the material choices could use some more careful design considerations. Priority should be design and never accepting cost as the driver over design. The material choices here leave a lot to be desired with respect to durability

The plastic is so thin and cheap. It broke after a handful of uses. It doesn't take much to break this little plastic piece. I'd think after purchasing an $800 tripod, this would be metal too since it comes with it. Or at least better quality. Please remake this in metal!

I was always under the impression that this mount was made fully out of aluminum since purchasing the tripod it came with. Unfortunately, the Iphone 13 Pro Max not only slides of it, but the mount broke at the pin; dropping the cellphone. An improvement to the design would be making the mount with the same material as the tripod (aluminum), and where the cellphone is held, perhaps an anti-slip type of rubber to protect the phone from scratches and make it firm grip, primarily keeping the phone safer.

But it breaks very easily! I have broken many pieces. PD should make a Metal version so it will not break. I have mentioned to PD many times, but PD has not make the new version. I t should not be so difficult.

Like many others wrote a review about this mount. The base plastic failed on me twice. It is not a very solid material the joint is way to thin. Both time I filed a warranty claim and both time they sent me a replacement. However, for the second replacement, the representative told me that they changed the design so the base plate shouldn't break that easy. Once I saw the mount I immediately know what they meant. The base plate is now a metal construct (seems like aluminum to me. I really like the fact that peak design is willing to listen to customer's feedback, and correct their earlier design error to perfect the product. This makes me feel very confident in all their other product. Truthfully speaking, I just received the replacement today so cannot really speak to it's longevity, but the fact the material has updated give me much more confidence, and I think this is an information that other folks should know about. If you already have the travel tripod, uou should know that you don't have to worry, you're covered by the warranty, and if you really break the phone mount, you'll have a replacement that's more reliable.

got the tripod via kickstarter. have had a broken hinge for the past 6 or so months. I am heasitant to get another one as i dont want to have the same issue.

I love this. I actually broke one. I was out in -10 degree weather taking photos in Chicago with my iPhone and my dog pulled me over, my body hit my iPhone and it cracked. This makes sense... And amazingly Peak Design replaced it, they are so amazing, this is why I love this company.

Mine broke relatively easy. did not appear/feel like it was built tough. At least not tough like the tripod or bags. It was replaced , but I?ve not used it since.

Like everyone else, the wings break at the hinge. Mine unfortunately broke during a recent trip to Hawai'i. I was excited to try out astrophotography mode on my phone using the PD tripod. However about a minute into the first exposure, the hinge failed and sent my phone falling on to the rocks below. Luckily my phone was fine and I was still able to use the DSLR to catch some images. I just hope PD redesigns this accessory, the rest of the CF Tripod is solid and this accessory should match the sturdiness.

I have bought replacements to these as the first one i got with my kickstarter backing broke at the plastic hinge where the pin goes through. I have went through 2 of these in the last few months now and have been ususall pretty good and taking care of these knowing their delicate demeanor. The plastic fold out arms should not be made of plastic but from aluminum for regidity and strength because both of these brok at it's weakest point, the roll pin through the plastic and the plastic just snaps! Love having this built into the tripod, have backed 99% of your kickstarter campaigns (including the current one "phone" and use specifically PD products and all work well but this small unit needs to be improved... V2 using all aluminum? ; going to order a couple more but not sure this is going to continue.

I finally broke out the mobile adapter last night after owning the tripod since the Kickstarter. Immediately broke at the hinge.

This piece is a perfect idea and well designed functionally. But the two flaps are the wrong material! While using it, I already lost two parts because of a crack at same position ( direct at the drill hole of the axis). The first time I informed Peak Design and I have got a new part for free in a very short time! Thanks to Peak Design for this extraordinary service! The second case I havn?t informed Peak Design, because I thought it could be a problem on my side, being not careful enough, while using. Actually I try to rebuild the two plastic parts in aluminium, to elaminate the weak point. Dear Peak Design technicians, use aluminum and put 10 Dollars onto the tripod price, and I am pretty sure it will fit to your standard high quality and the price is still ok, for what I get as customer. I'm a professional with 7 tripods and what I've found is the one I grab is the Peak Design, I even use it for medium format(casual on the fly medium format, not 20 second exposures). It's so portable because of it's lightness and length, it's quick to use and the phone holding gizmo turns out to be the thing I thought I'd never use and I always use. This is a great, ultimate level tripod.

I bought this tripod specifically because it had a BUILT IN mechanism for Mobile use. I primarily film on my smart phone and needed a tripod that fit my needs as a Mobile photographer. I originally had my initial unit replaced by Peak Design free of charge (their product line is ordinarily amazing quality). When I contacted support, they assured me they were working on a more durable metal solution that would serve as a replacement unit. It's been months and there's no replacement unit made from a more durable material. My replacement unit broke, and I took a look at the reviews to see if perhaps I was simply being careless or if in-fact this is a design flaw. Which it is, the plastic simply snaps! I'm maintained my equipment for years and very rarely do any my purchases ever break because I do handle with care. This is a major let down!!!

I am purchasing a replacement as this is quite handy to have on the tripod, but I am disappointed that the hinge on the bottom where the base and back join broke after a few months. I don't consider myself rough on my gear, but you must treat this very gingerly to make it last.

I love PD and it hurts me to give anything less than 5 stars. The phone mount is such a great touch for the tripod. When the mount is in the tripod, it doesn't take much to snap the plastic around the pins. I'm on my fourth. One breaking was from a colossal fall. But, the other two breakings was from bumping it, not hard either. I suggest making the bottom arm out of a metal. When it's locked into the tripod, there's no give and it just cracks.

The fit is a little loose for a Pixel, but certainly good enough. After a few months of weekly use, the foot broke where the pin goes through. But it's such a great idea to be able to store it on the tripod, I am ordering another.
