Peak Design Small Shell Form-Fitting Rain and Dust Cover for Small Camera & Lens

I had the small shell for an old camera and recently purchased the medium size to better fit with a few of my larger lenses (Fuji XT-5 + Kit and Zoom lenses). Easy to pull on and off, gives me peace of mind having the camera outdoors when weather is wet and windy.

It fit my Nikon Z8 camera body with the 24-300 mm lens perfectly. I like how it is snug and fits nicely over everything. I haven't had a chance to test it in a real life situation yet (ie, rain) and I'm hoping on my trip it doesn't become a necessity! The only complaint I would have of it as you have to remove the back to shoot as is snug and there is no way to see the screen or shoot the camera without lifting it up to shoot. Might be an upgrade for the future to make the back a clear panel so you can see the screen and activate the shutter button without having to lift or remove.

The case is very well made and surprisingly tight; even in a heavy thunderstorm it kept the camera and lens dry, while I was soaking wet despite the umbrella. It's a bit tricky to attach, especially pulling the anchors through, but the case is then securely attached to the camera. What I would like is a version with an opening for the viewfinder. Mirrorless cameras can be used very well via the display with the case attached, but this is a bit difficult with viewfinder cameras. Even though the trend is towards mirrorless cameras, I would be happy if Peak Design took up this suggestion. A little tip: if you mount a seamless focus ring on the zoom of the lens, you can still zoom quite precisely through the case.

Not the perfect waterproof shell. But the quality of the product is amazing. Usually sits in the camera cube holding my backup camera nowadays.

On a rainy weekend in San Francisco we stopped by the Peak Design store to do some window shopping and left with a Medium shell for my Canon EOS T6. Fits both camera and Tamron 18-400mm lens. Attaches and removes easily.

I bought this to protect my camera under the snow. That works great but that would be greater if there is a hole or a way to look at the view finder while still covering the screen.

Using a Sony A7iii and a 24-70mm lens - fits well (a bit tight - a needs some patience to put on properly). The little mesh storage is not as packable as I would have hoped, but for the peace of mind it's well worth it! The corner clips are a bit difficult to get through the shell but once in they are locked and loaded.

My opinions of shell fit for my mirrorless Olympus (OM Systems) OM-1: For the OM-1 with the 12-40mm Pro f2.8, the small fits and can cinch be cinched around the lens. But the zoom ring is close to the base of the lens and can not be used with the shell on, so I have to pull shell off to zoom. The medium fits just as well, and since I have to pull shell off anyway to zoom, the extra fabric is irrelevant and there is no need to cinch around the lens. For the OM-1 with a prime lens smaller than 75mm, the small is too big to use if you want to cinch the shell around the lens. If you want to just use as a cover while hiking and pull cover off to use, then small is fine. Both a small and medium will cinch around the 75mm prime, so both work fine for the 75mm. For the OM-1 with the 40-150 Pro f2.8, the small does not full cover the lens. The medium fits perfect, and the zoom ring can still be used with the shell cinched. The zoom ring is closer to the end of the lens than the 12-40mm, so the slack in the medium shell fabric still allows the ring to be turned. Due to the limited fit and usefulness of the small shell, I recommend the MEDIUM for the OM-1.

Peak design creates each time the right product unavailable on the market for your camera. I will call this product the camera sohftshell not waterproof but good enough to protect your camera and take photos without having to take it out of your bag and put it back. I carry my camera with a shoulder strap, the camera is protected and I can take photos much faster. I use this product for outdoors, ski touring, rock-alpine-ice climbing, hiking! I bought the small size for a duji XT-30, with 10-24 mm lenses, it fits perfectly! Maybye they will release one day a Hardshell version for photographs looking for a rainproof cover! Thanks Peak Design! Big fan of the brand!

The small size is recommended for mirrorless cameras, but unless you have a very large lens, there is far too much fabric for this to be usable. Otherwise, great product, quality, I could see how this would be a great piece of gear.

Quality is top tear as always with PD, very waterpoof and abrasion resistant. even slightly cushioned. unfortunately however, it is just not that practical with the lack of a hole for the view finder. yes, you can put this on your camera, clip it on your PD capture and walk through a monsoon with at most only slight moisture gathering around the bottom where the capture attaches, i know because of a 10+ hour hike i did in the pouring rain with this on my hip. loved this about it. but if you want to take pictures in the rain, this is a no go and that is what i wanted to do with it. also, i do not recommend using this with a zoom lens of course, you will not be able to zoom with it on. i just wish there was some sort of opening for the back of the camera, even if it only opens enough for the view finder. instead of this product, either get a clear disposable cover, or invest in a weather sealed camera and lens... which is what i ended up doing.

This product is a perfect partner if you are looking to protect your camera / lenses from scratches if you don't have a dedicated camera compartment in your bag. The shell covers the camera perfectly and now I can place it my backpack with other items without worrying about scratches on the body of camera and lenses.

I got the medium shell to add a layer of protection when I?m out hiking in he rainy season. Fits over an A7C + Sigma 105 macro + lens hood with ease, but would need a larger shell for anything bigger. I typically have the shell hooked around the lens with the elastic loop, back cinched up and on my shoulder?s capture clip. Easy enough to remove the entire shell and let it hang off the lens to access all the controls, a little awkward if you want to shoot with the shell on. Definitely worth the added peace of mind when it starts raining.

I originally bought the medium but it was too small. Go bigger (I own a Nikon Z6 and use it mostly with a 24-70 or 70-200). It really serves its purpose but be careful: it often gets in the picture? and the constant flip up and down to take pictures is a bit tiring. At least the protection level is good.

Product quality is great. Medium shell fits nicely over Canon 90D plus 18-200 mm lens. Large shell mostly covers 90D plus Sigma 150-600 mm lens. Wish there was an XL shell to provide full coverage.

I bought the small based on the sizing chart for a Sony A1 mirrorless camera. It's very, very tight with a 24-70 2.8 and almost impossible to use with a 7--200 2.8. Honestly, v2 needs to have an updated correct sizing chart, and some kind of clear viewing panel so you can view the back of your cameras LCD panel. That being said I did put this over when I was shooting in a downpour and it kept my camera dry. Also, the shell itself dries extremally fast and folds into itself which is extremely convenient. I would definitely wait for a v2 before picking up a shell.

Yeah bought this item and I?m happy with the fact of it protecting my camera but overall I must say I wasn?t impressed mainly because it?s restricting when it comes to you being speedy with your camera. I wish the product wasn?t so tight and was a bit more photographer friendly.

This is great for going out and taking pics when it's snowing/sleeting. You don't have to worry about your camera getting wet at all. It's also pretty easy too put on/take off.

I've wanted/ needed a shell for a long time and have looked at nearly all of the designs by many. This product fit the bill based on the lens range it's designed to cover. Overtime I'll probably acquire the other sizes. Based on lens choices, but this one fits my needs now. Like how it doesn't interfere with the other Peak Design products I currently use, such as the Capture Clip.

Impressed with the sturdy quality. Well made. No doubt it will provide additional protection in wet conditions. The only concern could be size. Peak Designs says the small will fit a mirrorless camera with any size lens. I have a 70 - 300 lens and with the adapter it is at the limit for the small. I'm just impressed overall with design and function.
