I bought the Pro Tall to take on a recent two week trip to Mongolia to photograph snow leopards. I wanted something lighter weight than my other full sized tripods since I would be hiking but it had to be sturdy enough to support a Nikon Z9, 600 f4 TC and a 2x TC in windy conditions. I also wanted a full size tripod because I would likely be setting up on steep unlevel ground and would need the downhill leg fully extended. Spiked feet for snow and loose rock were another consideration along with quick release levers for gloved hands, Weighing in at around 4 lbs. with the pro leveling base, it is compact enough to strap onto the side of backpack and with the afore mentioned requirements, this tripod worked almost flawlessly. I say "almost" because the quick release levers were a bit tricky to open with very thick cold weather gloves or mitts. Using thinner liners or bare hands there were zero problems. With the legs fully extended, it had no problem securely holding the camera and a large telephoto lens. Using it one night for some astro photography with a 14-24mm lens at -30 F in swirling winds, resulted in zero movement. Was it worth the price? Absolutely. This will be my go to tripod for my upcoming trips.

Fabulous tripod best I've ever owned. Fantastic improvement over the original travel tripod, which I did not purchase and I am so happy I waited. Got this model on the quick starter delay delayed purchase. What a deal and what a fantastically beautiful solid wonderfully engineered product. PD you guys have done yourselves this time.

I have had the Pro-Tall tripod for over two months now and It has been revolutionary for me. Previously I could not integrate my base plate with my carry system very well when carrying a telephoto lense, but having the carry sytem and the base plate integrated allows me to shoot more often with my tripod. The overall build is very sturdy and the quck-attach plate and ball head has allowed me to setup, capture, and break down to move again for a shot in the same time that it took me to just deploy my previous tripod. My only issue is that the camera base plate cannot seat level when you have a peak design anchors attached, and the fit can be a bit too snug to get the "snap" feel when attaching and detaching.

I'v bought the Pro Tripod with Fluid Tilt Head. The Tripod is excellent, not so the head: Vertical damping is useless for filming work. Therefore, I'v bought also the Profi Levelling Unit to use my Sachtler Head on it. But this unit has no center column and that from the tilt module is not removable to use it with the tilt module! Big frustration.

This is a really well-built tripod, and very compact. My complaints about it relate to a couple of issues: First, about 30% of my pictures are shot at ground level. Taking pictures with this tripod at ground level requires you use "Low Mode". In order to use Low Mode you actually have to remove the bottom of the centre column, pull out the hex tool, raise the centre column enough to tilt the tripod head over 90- degrees, and then use the hex screw driver to unscrew the head from the column. You take the column out of the tripod base, then put just the head assembly back into the tripod base. It's quite clever, but cumbersome and I don't really recommend doing this in cold weather. If you shoot in Low Mode you can't tilt the head 90 degrees to shoot in a portrait position. Also, what do you do with the centre column once you've removed it and want to move your camera to a new location? It doesn't fit neatly into my camera bag. I often shoot long exposures and worry about vibration, so I raise the centre column as little as possible. I suggested to Peak Design that they offer a shorter centre column of say four or five inches that can be used in place of the large one to deal with this issue, and I got a polite "thanks for the suggestion" but nothing more. The other disappointment is the way the rotating section of the ball head is set up. There is one location/position mark on the upper piece of the ball head that you can use to gauge how far you are panning your lens when taking a pano. The mark location is square to the mounting lock and works when you are mounting a camera body - but not if you are using a telephoto lens with a long Arca-Swiss foot plate. It's also less than ideal if you are tilting the head 90 degrees to shoot a vertorama. You see these position markings on other ball heads such as Really Right Stuff. I figure the only thing I can do is put some nail polish markings on my tripod to allow me to measure rotation when shooting vertoramas, which is pretty disappointing.

Haven't used since I've been out on disability, but I love it and much lighter than the Manfrotto I've used for years and it deploys very easily

I've used the original carbon fiber Travel Tripod since launch. While it served me well, it could be unstable in windy conditions when fully extended. This new Pro Tripod is a massive upgrade. I'm amazed at the design quality and the significantly more stable legs. The head is a work of art, and the unit represents a real step up for Peak Design. I look forward to using this for years to come!

I bought the Pro Lite as part of the Kickstarter campaign and I've been delighted in every way. I have been using the travel tripod for many years and love how compact and light it is compared to my workhorse Gitzo. However, the PD travel tripod is not as stable as I would like; the stock ball head and thin legs can't quite handle my big 600mm lens with Z9. It does in a pinch and is still my first choice if I need a tripod while hiking, especially with the lighter kit I carry for that. However, it really excited me to see the development of a sturdier version! The Pro Lite handles not only my Z9 and big lenses, but also my big Kowa 99mm spotting scope. The ball head is much more robust and with a refined quick release/lock mechanism. The accessories are also very well thought out. I especially like the Tilt mod for use with my spotting scope.

Absolutely love this tripod so far. Have only had a chance to use it a few times, but already love it. Like all Peak Design products I've gotten, it is extremely well thought out and designed. High level of detail and quality in manufacturing is evident. Currently also have a Manfrotto, which I also really like, but the Pro Tripod is so much more compact that I will actually be able to easily take it on day hikes, etc. Which means I will then actually have a tripod to use for shots. I have a PD Everyday backpack (also awesome), and as advertised, the Pro fits nicely in the side pocket. It's obviously expensive. I am not a pro photographer but an enthusiastic amateur. I consider it a very worthwhile investment in a hobby that is a passion. Highly recommend it!

I bought the Pro Light model looking to overcome the original travel tripod's major faults (in my view), including short maximum height, the lack of panning on the original ball head and the need to raise the center column up (and thereby compromise stability) to enable any ball head movement at all. The Pro Light solves all these problems and for the time being in my view now offers the single best solution for travel for landscape photography with medium format digital gear. Support is very solid despite the easy movement of the telescoping carbon fiber legs. The new ball head adjusts and rotates smoothly and locks down reassuringly even with heavier lenses mounted. These improvements make it worth the upgrade for me but do come at the price of a substantial increase in weight and size relative to the original travel model. In fact, only a few ounces now separate the Pro Light model from high-end competitors' more standard design medium weight models (although Peak's legs still fold down more compactly). I hope to see Peak eventually incorporate the Pro series structural design improvements in a v2 of the original travel tripod and bring it in at something closer to the v1 weight and size. One nit to pick: The method for separating the center column and ball head, and then remounting the ball head on the legs for shooting low to the ground, is way too fiddly for use in the field; if you frequently need to get down low to shoot, other solutions might be preferable.

Very high quality tripod. Very easy to use, very stable (significantly more than the travel tripod). A pity that changing normal feet bases with spike feet is not very friendly (when compared to a dilution where the spike feet can be an extension of the rubber feet as proposed by another famous tripod provider). The price is too high however (including price of accessories).

I have the pro lite purchased through kickstarter. It's a great tripod, well built. Would have preferred having the mobile mount rather than the tool that the travel tripod comes with. Didn't want to buy it separately. I had been tossing up between the travel tripod and the pro lite. I wish I'd gone with the travel tripod only because the extra 8cm does feel like a lot now that I can see how big it is. Was seduced by being able to pay in 3 instalments during the kickstarter campaign (and the bigger discount). I'll still get use out of it, but I don't feel like I'm always going to be using the tripod just because of the height.

Pro Tripod works great and is a much needed accessory for this trip. The hex tool was not provided as promised.

I have been using the Peak Design Travel Tripod (carbon fiber) for several years and appreciate its low weight, compact size, and overall portability. What frequently bothered me was the ball head requiring the use of a separate panning base for landscape shots. Pro Lite addresses this limitation by integrating a dedicated panning base directly into the head. This has significantly improved flexibility eliminating the need for a separate panning base. Pro Lite feels substantially more sturdy. Overall workflow-from deployment to packing-feels faster and more controlled compared to the Travel Tripod. The primary drawback is carrying it with Peak Design 20L Everyday Backpack that I use as well. Pro Lite does not sit as cleanly within the existing design unlike the Travel Tripod, reducing packing efficiency. Ideally, Peak Design could address this through improved compatibility or modular carry options without increasing the backpack's external dimensions. I will continue to keep the Travel Tripod in my kit, as its lighter weight and slimmer profile remain better suited for air travel and extended carry, while the Pro Lite Head is better optimized for stability and setup efficiency with a welcomed addition of an integrated panning base.

Great improvement from the travel carbon fiber tripod. I was very disappointed that the universal head was not released at the same time so I can use a geared head instead of a ball head. I love the tripod hate the head.

First pro level tripod as I am upgrading from a Manfrotto set up. I have had it a few weeks now and it goes on every outing. I shoot outdoors and in various conditions and this tripod suits them all well. It's incredibly easy to deploy and very lightweight. I just received the rest of my accessories in the mail and look forward to using this well into the futire.

Having used the travel tripod for years and loving it, I went for the pro model when the Kickstarter campaign was started up. The improvements to the head design are worth the cost alone, and, coupled with the tripod's extended height, this is now my go-to model. The Gitzo is going up for sale! The tripod is easy to operate, light, very sturdy, and the head is exceptionally well done, with an easier way to lock and unlock the camera base to the head. This was a drawback for me with the travel tripod, but I got used to double-checking that the camera was indeed locked in when doing night photography. With the Pro Model, the click-in provides both a feel and a sound. Coupled to this is a smaller, more convenient slider that locks everything down. Excellent design for those working in the dark.

Very compact and still sufficiently tall. I got the pro tall - I would recommend using the centre column only when absolutely necessary, as there is still a bit of flex when fully extended. It will replace my larger RRS tripod for 90% of my work. Very nicely designed, with great attention to detail.

This tripod combines the best of both worlds with the lightness of a travel tripod and the versatility of a pro one. The best feature by far is the quick-release plate on the tripod head (which is a lifesaver coming from another tripod where I had to manually tighten it every time. It's definitely a bit larger than I was expecting, but I can't complain considering how many other things it does phenomenally well.

Heavier than I thought but still light enough. Steady as Pikes Peak. Needs a pocket in the case to store plates and multi tool

I have the small tripod and use it regularly for many outdoor activities. It is extremely lightweight and fits easily into a backpack as well as my motorcycle cases. Setting it up and taking it down is incredibly quick. I also like the hook for adding some weight. Everything is perfectly crafted, and I would buy it again without hesitation. The only improvement point is the magnetic adjustment tool. I lost it while transporting the tripod and I can't reorder it. In my opinion, the magnet should be a bit stronger or have a small bracket to secure it so the tool doesn't fall off. Another point is that I can't order a replacement on the website. It would be great if this were possible, or if it were clear where the tool can be purchased. Overall, I love this product.

Slightly smaller than the Peak Design Pro Tripod yet considerably more stable than the Peak Design Travel Tripod, the Pro Lite Tripod is the ultimate balance between pro-level performance and go-anywhere packability. Pro Lite has the exact same architecture, ball head, materials, and features of Pro Tripod, but with more compact legs for improved portability. Pro Lite is still plenty strong enough to hold heavy pro rigs and shoot pro-level content-35lb weight rating compared to 40lb for Pro Tripod and 20lb for Travel Tripod-but thinner/shorter leg sections mean a smaller packed-down volume and weight for enhanced portability. Developed in collaboration with renowned photographer and filmmaker Jimmy Chin, Pro Lite Tripod offers professional features like fluid panning, video support, and fully CNC-machined aluminum hardware, as well as meticulously engineered refinements to every single lever, knob, and touchpoint. No other professional tripod on the planet is this capable, packable, and downright delightful to use.
With the unique and patented Tilt Mod accessory (sold separately) Pro Lite Tripod can instantly convert to a fluid pan & tilt video tripod. Effortlessly switch between photography and filming in the field or studio without lugging around multiple tripods or a bulky video head. Video has become an integral part of the pro photography workflow, and no other tripod in the world offers the ability to quickly switch between the two-let alone do it with an accessory that's compact enough to fit in a lens compartment of your camera bag.
