Poor Design Choices

I Kickstarted this product, so I was rooting for it. Let me start with the good news: the wheels roll. Now the bad news. After two uses, one of the zippers failed near the hinge. You can actually see the zipper pulling off the track at the turn. That's a design flaw. By the third trip, I was packing backup straps just in case the second zipper gave out too. The laptop compartment eats up 7cm of depth. Most laptops are less than 1cm thick. That's a massive waste of space in a carry on, and it really should be called out in the specs so buyers know what they're giving up. Two stars instead of one because it does technically hold your stuff. Until the zippers fail.

So smooth.

I've done a couple trips with this bag and just love it. That it opens sideways vs the standard is genius. So much easier to quickly grab something on the go, and easier to pack as well. The wheels are amazing, almost too good as the bag will start to roll at the slightest degree of downhill. Not a complaint though, but watch out, it will start to travel by itself! Super happy and can't wait to put endless miles on it.

Love this bag. Wheels are so smooth. Handle is sturdy. Pockets are great. Fits a lot of gear inside.

The roller bag is amazing.

Got this suitcase as a gift as I love the brand. Absolutely amazing organization, style, and functionality out of this small case. I appreciate the overall design especially the carbon fiber elements. I use the bag for most all of my ski trips and have never had any issues with it. Amazingly made. Would reccomend.

Superb Quality and Features!

I recently purchased the Roller Pro via REI. I have yet to travel with the Roller Pro, but first impression I can tell that its a high quality piece of luggage with a lot of thought put into the design. Overall I am happy with the purchase of the Roller Pro as well as my various other purchases from Peak Design. The obvious downside is the price, but if you want something quality that will last then go for it.

Best Roller I owned so far

The Roller Pro is an awesome piece of travel gear. Nicely designed, with a lot of helpful details. Worked very well on my last 2 trips. Looking forward to see it in combination with the new upcoming 20L Backpacks as well for larger trips with my Travel Backpack 45L. The only downside is the weight... If PD could have it done with a bit less of weight I would rate it 6 stars.

Regrets, but I really wanted to love it.

Rather disappointed with this bag. Bought it on the promise that it fits international baggage allowances, spoiler, it doesn't. Particularly Korean airlines and Asiana. More than once I have been that person who had to rotate their bag such that it takes up a lot of linear room in the overhead. It has gotten checked more often than it has ridden in the cabin. Definitely not fitting in the Ryanair sizer (so prepare to check it). Does work for British Airways and Virgin, if we are being fair. Not that I care about this part, but it does seem to scuff rather easily. I think it is character, but some people will care. Rolls really nicely on carpet and smooth surfaces, not so great on the pavements of England or anywhere that peagravel is present. At home, super smooth. Around the airport, super smooth. To the taxi, iffy. On the pavements walking to your hotel, carry it. Ultimately this bag gets used for my train trips and car journeys. It is a shame that it does not work for my flights as I do like the drawbridge style. As others have mentioned though, the laptop sleeve is rather silly, for multiple reasons the least of which being putting lithium batteries (like the one in a laptop) in the overhead is forbidden and some airlines do check.

I'd marry this luggage if I could

I know there are Peak Design fanboys out there. You can spot them in the wild. They have every single accessory. I never thought I would be one of them, but I am officially converted. This luggage is one of the most thoughtful pieces of transport that I own. The thing that stuns me the most is how quiet it is. I've had a lot of luggage from high-end brands to cheap bargain-bin quality, and this one smokes all of them. Huge fan of the attention to detail. I'm not a photographer, but I'm working in tech and traveling quite a bit over the last year. This bag has held up. It has earned my review, and I couldn't be happier with it. I fully intend to gift one to my wife for Christmas because she is often complaining about the telescoping handles in her bag.

Exceeding expectations

I'm halfway through an extended European trip?so far the roller has been a star on planes, trains, automobiles and challenging cobblestone medieval streets. Highly efficient, high functioning, high capacity. This product is living up to my high hopes for the PD product.

The Best Travel Bags

I've had the Roller Pro since it was released. I've flown with it over a dozen times including internationally. I usually check it and carry on my PD Travel Backpack. The Roller Pro holds up to the abuse of baggage handlers, the fabric is tougher than any hard sided luggage big or small. Any unfortunate scuff that appears is easily wiped off. The wheels roll unbelievably smooth, the Roller Pro feels like it's floating. If you want bags or luggage that doesn't suck, then buy Peak Design bags. I've been traveling with them since 2018.

Killer bag and I don't feel like a dork using it.

Upgraded to this bag after decades with a Lowepro roller bag. Been doing a lot of travel jobs recently and so far I'm loving it. It took a minute to reorganize things but I have it dialed in now and I'm stoked. If I could change anything, I wish there were multiple points where the handle could stop rather than always having to fully extend it. I have a Rimowa suitcase and that handle stops anywhere you want and I really love that feature. That's just me though? besides missing that little feature, the bag is a 10/10

Perfect for me, maybe for you...

I got this on Kickstarter in the eclipse color. I wanted to wait until I did some serious travel with this bag before I reviewed it. Note: I am not going to discuss the weight (or the wait...on Kickstarter), those things don't/didn't impact me. I've taken this bag on planes of various sizes, in cars, on buses, in vans, on shuttles, on trains, and on boats. I've also dragged it across all sorts of surfaces, sometimes with a backpack on the handle. It has always rolled smoothly and has fit in every designated carryon bin I've tried to put it in. It has help up very well in the rain, snow, and sand, and has taken a bit of beating on the exterior with aplomb. It is really a top notch bag and makes traveling generally more pleasant. So, why not 5 stars? For my use case, it is 5 stars, but I can't recommend it at that level for someone on the fence at its current price. It's not because it's not worth the money, it's that the money may be better spent elsewhere depending on what you carry and how you like to pack. I carry a blend of gear, electronics, toiletries, and clothes in mine. I use packing cubes and cases for all my stuff and like to keep everything in its place. This bag is perfect for that. Got some flat things? There's a place for those. Need quick access to a few things? Got that covered. It's more important to me to have a good place to put everything than it is to fit as much as possible in the bag. If you are the sort who likes to stuff as much as you can into a bag and don't care how you do it, I think you can save a few hundred dollars and look elsewhere. It's not that the bag doesn't hold a lot, it does, but you won't be taking advantage of what makes the bag special. This is a Peak bag, and like the rest of them, it rewards a more fiddly organizational style. I love the drawbridge opening. Not only does the bag not tip over or need as much space to open, the depth allows me to fit things I could not fit into an ordinary clamshell. I also love all the ways the upper compartment can be creatively used, with or without a laptop or tablet in the outer pocket. All the attachment points on the outside are very useful, as are all the grab handles. While all the elastic cords and restraints and hook things inside work well, the drawbridge catches near the opening can sometimes get caught in the zippers when I'm trying to close it. This is something to look at for future designs of this bag, or for a checked bag (please make one). Overall, I hope I can use this bag for decades, it makes traveling better for me. If you buy it, I hope it does for you, too!

Truly "rolls" away

Recently I've purchased two roller pros, one for my husband and one for my niece as a college graduation present. I've borrowed my husband's to see how it compares to my beloved carry-on. The bag is fabulous in so may ways. Almost like magic it absorbs a lot of "stuff" into what appears to be a small amount of space and never any quibbles about it fitting into the overhead bin. My one complaint is that it rolls far too easily if the floor has even a minimal slant. There I was, sipping my coffee and the bag went for a stroll all on it's own across the floor. Luckily I caught sight of it as it silently took its leave. I have warned my niece to keep it on a leash.

Love this x 3

I love everything about the Roller-Pro!! I bought two with Kickstarter, one for myself and another for my kid. We liked them so much I bought another for my other kid with the open release. Especially appreciate it for the one who has a bit of cerebral palsy. So much easier to use. I've taken mine in one international and two domestics flights. Still like new. The front opening is a game changer.

Does what it says on the tin, really well

I bought this on the Kickstarter campaign. The Peak Design Packing cubes are a perfect fit, and the amount of stuff I can fit in this carry-on is way more than expected. I came on an 8-day trip, and if it weren't for my laptop and iPad, I would have been able to do it with a single bag. I have had Samsonite, NOMOS, and Travelpro bags, and none come close to this from a quality and feature standpoint of the Roller Pro. The content can press against the device in the front pocket, but pack it tight, then expand it to relieve this space if needed.

Not for Seasoned Business Travelers

I wanted to love the Peak Design Roller Pro. And in many ways, I do. The build quality is excellent. Materials feel premium. The engineering is thoughtful and clearly intentional. You can tell this wasn't rushed to market - someone obsessed over the details. That said, as someone who's been traveling for business for more than three decades - and who lives out of a carry-on most weeks - it ultimately didn't deliver on usable space the way I'd hoped. Yes, there's smart internal structuring. But to maximize capacity, you almost have to use packing cubes. If you love cubes, this may be a non-issue. I don't. I prefer flexibility and the ability to adjust on the fly. Without cubes, the interior organization actually works against you a bit. The laptop sleeve is where it really lost me. I don't know a single heavy business traveler who stores their laptop inside their roller. It lives in a backpack or briefcase for airport access, meetings, lounges, and security. That dedicated sleeve takes up valuable real estate that could have been repurposed for expandable storage or a more flexible interior layout. In short: beautifully built, impressively engineered, but not optimized for the way seasoned road warriors actually pack. As much as I wanted this to be "the bag," my Tumi still wins on practical capacity and real-world business travel usability. Peak Design makes great gear. This just wasn't it for me.

I got my Roller Pro via the campaign on Kickstarter. It is really well made and very functional. It really moves like a charm over nearly any surface including cobble stones. Only down side: it could be slightly larger, not much, but just a little extra would be great for me.

Needs 2 roller blade wheels for serious travel.

IMO Design is not quite there - it's the spinner wheels that prevent me from buying. We currently use Osprey Ozone which has 2 wheels, roller-blade type. We have traveled to many cities, hill towns and villages in Tuscany, Norway, Germany, Spain, etc. and all those broken pavements, gravel paths, stone cobbles, curbs and steps don't stop our bags. Spinners are great for smooth pavements and airports, but - IMHO - spinners do not cut it in many, many places in Europe. To me, in the 2-wheel mode, the wheels are just too small and light for normal use in those locations. I have seen people carrying their spinner luggage in their arms across rough pavements. I have a nice photo of a spinner wheel ripped off and lying on the pavement in Bergen. I really think 2 wheels are the best. Don't get me wrong, spinners look sexy - marketing videos of people effortlessly spinning them 360 or gliding along in the airport. Maybe great for road warriors, business people who spend a great deal of time in airports, but I don't travel to spend my time in airports. Yes, we used to do backpacks until a few years ago; but approaching 75 we need wheels, and sturdy wheels that will hold up in the places we go. Given how the bag opens, with the solid base, this might be a useful mod. So PD, how about the Adventure version of this luggage?

Looks premium, dont protect laptop

The Peak Design suitcase looks great, but the laptop compartment provides basically zero real protection. After a 13-hour flight, my laptop screen suffered mechanical damage - a crack that went through the outer casing. The laptop was placed exactly where it's supposed to be: inside Peak Design's "protective" laptop compartment, in carry-on, in the overhead bin. There was nothing else in that pocket -- just the laptop. It was in perfect condition before the flight. So under normal flight vibration and handling, the suitcase didn't absorb the stress the laptop did. The result: a cracked screen and a ruined start to the trip. What's especially frustrating is that I actually love the suitcase otherwise. Conceptually it's excellent, and it's genuinely comfortable to use. But now I'm left wondering whether I can safely travel with tech in it at all because the divider between the laptop and the main compartment feels like thin fabric, not a protective wall. During travel it absorbs nothing and transfers the load straight into the device. Beautiful design, great usability - but if the laptop compartment can't protect a laptop in a basic real-world flight scenario, that's a serious failure.

Easy to travel with and roll

I've had many different roller bags from the big luggage names, but none of them have traveled as easily as this one. The wheels are amazingly smooth and easily turn in different directions. Even if the bag is heavily weighted down with camera gear, it rolls and turns very easily, making travel and navigating crowded areas much easier than bags with wheels that roll less well when heavily weighted. That alone makes so much of a difference in ease of travel!

Sadly a couple of dealbreakers.

The many positives for this carry-on is overshadowed by a few greatly overlooked issues when it comes to carry-ons. The Roller Pro looks amazing and has an amazing internal layout. The wheels make it effortless to move it around even on uneven ground and the drawbridge opening makes the trip through the security checkpoint and general use easy It is however nearly 4kg, taking up nearly 50% of the allowed weight limit on most airlines. Just putting a camera with a lens or a laptop with a heavy power brick can force you to just fill the rest of the volume with just air, maybe a few socks and underwear. It will also fail the size check on nearly EVERY european airline. It's height and depth is oversized. Due to the size alone this can become a 600$ headache not including the extra baggage fee that you might get. I've already failed this check once, but luckily avoided the fee on a short haul route. I sadly bought this without checking the measurements because I've gotten so used to any serious luggage company having this locked in. If I could make the buying decision again I would wait for a v2 or a Roller Pro Lite. The size problem alone isn't something you should expect for a carry-on at this pricepoint.

Designed by Photographers FOR Photographers

I backed this at Kickstarter and it immediately became my favorite carry on. As an avid photography enthusiast, I travel with 3-4 film cameras (mostly medium format) and my Hasselblad x2d. Having a luggage that was so obviously well developed & thoughtfully designed by photographers is something that is 100% evident in the Roller Pro. Even the security at the airport said my carry on was cool hahaha

Incredible

I love this bag. I just took it on 2 trips. The way the bag holds packing cubes efficiently and has space for a laptop, phone, and keys while going through security is great. The bag roles smoothly and easily. Is easy to pick up from any side while navigating steps or cars. Bottomline... worth it. Well engineered and well made.

Smooth rolling delight

We bought this last month, and my wife immediately took it on a trip to visit her mother. The bag was a delight to use, with the exception that the zipper wouldn't stay closed. We warrantied it and immediately got a new one. We love the internal space and the smooth rolling. It's hard to explain how nice it is for the bag to just move with you instead of constantly freaking out and rolling all over the place. It's almost like it's on autopilot. Traveling is hectic enough these days without the added hassles of bad luggage. We also love all the handles. Makes it so much easier to get off a carousel or in and out of a trunk without having to find a place you can grab.

Fun travel bag!

Bought this roller bag to be my forever suitcase. Used it on a short trip recently. Love how roomy it feels inside and all the pockets for stashing stuff. And love how it rolls! On a smooth surface, you only need one finger to push it along. Downside would be the weight of the bag empty. Its a bit heavy for me, once packed. But if feels luxurous and sturdy at the same time. One suggestion would be to add a nicer luggage tag. I bought a colorful bird tag.

Nearly perfect bag

I bought all three colors (one for each of us in the family) during the initial campaign. I love, love the roller bag! It's so easy to pack, the extra space is a game changer. This summer I used the bag for several trips, car and train. Last week was its first debut at the airport where I discovered the wheels are almost too good, as the bag sometimes sped away from me. Fortunately I figured out how to use that to my advantage. Need two hands to zip up a jacket in the airport? No problem, keep walking and just give the bag a firm push. It rolls along next to me as I zip my coat. There is one small issue that nearly caused an international incident at the Spanish - Gibraltar border ;-). I had put the top handle of my everyday backpack (V1 20L tan) over the roller handle so it would be upright. At the border I could not separate the bags because of tiny corners on the roller handle were just big enough to keep the backpack locked on. Fortunately after watching me struggle with it for several minutes, a friendly Spanish agent helped me wrestle it off. My husband has a V1 20L gray bag and his leather handle fits perfectly so he had zipped through the border wondering what happened to me.

About Peak Design Roller Pro

Meet the next leap in luggage. Roller Pro Carry-On is a 4-wheeled travel roller in a class of it's own, built differently from the ground up to hold more, drive better, protect better, and look better. In a world of look-alike rollers made from stock components, we went where other bag makers wouldn't go-pushing the practical limits of manufacturing to set a new standard for roller quality, utility, and aesthetic.

It starts with the innovative SlimDrive trolley handle, built from rigid, flat, and lightweight carbon fiber. SlimDrive eliminates wasted space inside the bag while also eliminating the bending/twisting that occurs in traditional 3-section aluminum handles. It's a driving experience lightyears ahead of other rollers. Roller Pro's hybrid construction (polycarbonate internal shell + Versa Shell outer fabric) offers hard-sided protection with the organizational flexibility of soft-sided luggage-a combination you'll find nowhere else. Same goes for the unique drawbridge opening, which gives you total access while taking up half the footprint of the traditional clamshell design. Pack and unpack in tighter spaces, and visualize your stuff in a more compact format. An exterior EDC pocket allowes quick stowage/access for items like passports, glasses, and headphones in the security line and in-flight, and a protected laptop sleeve magnetically seals on its own to prevent accidental spillage. An external Cord Hook carry system allows you to lash items to the outside of the bag, giving you that critical extra hand when dashing through the terminal. Inside, a Cord Hook retention system keeps stuff secured faster and more elegantly than traditional compression straps. Brilliant details are everywhere: weatherproof UltraZips that all lock together, a laser-cut Hypalon ID tag, padded grab handles, and secret AirTag and stash pockets.

And for photographers, meet your new mobile studio. Designed to perfectly fit the new Peak Design XL Camera Cube, Roller Pro provides endlessly customizable storage, access, and protection for a full professional camera kit, along with vertical space for organization of SD cards, batteries, and other small items. Whether you're in transit, in the field, or in the studio, Roller Pro is the ultimate assistant.
