Questions & Answers

John J : Is this the connector I need for the Small Octobox #FVMOD3? I'll be using Lumopro LP160 Speedlights.DENNIS C : This works very well on my Small Octobox. I use it with a PocketWizard TT5 with a Canon 580 EXII mounted on it. It does have a little wobble to it but has held up very good.TRACY S : Looks like the one I am using with that octobox RON M : That looks like the connector used on my Octobox. If the Lumopro has a standard hot shoe foot it will fit the holder on this connector. The second holder is for a Pocket Wizard (or something similar). I hope it works for you.PENNY N : Yes, you can use this accessory to use a Speedlight with the LiteDome. Remember, you still need the accessory ring for the LiteDome. The Basic Metal OctoConnector SKU: SC-B900SC works fine for this. While there are 2 shoe-mount brackets that slide on the horizontal arm of the bracket, you may only need to use one. Depending on what wireless trigger system you use (hot shoe connector or cord), you may only use one shoe-mount bracket. In my case, I actually didn't use any, using a 1/4-20 short wing nut to attach wireless receiver to the bracket in horizontal position and the flash then sat in the receiver's hot shoe bracket. NOTE: depending on what you are using to hold the complete setup - light stand, paint pole for remote outside shooting, you again may need a different arrangement for attaching than the brass stand adapter shown on left of bracket. It is very important to make sure this location on the bracket is used for attaching to your support system. DO NOT use the tripod socket on either of the shoe mount brackets (or other accessory you place there). This will create an unbalanced weight issue and the bracket will not support the Dome, receiver and speed light without flexing a lot and probably becoming damaged. Use the attachment point where the brass stand adapter is. The OctoConnector attaches on top there and then the Dome. This is the most stable location on the bracket. This adapter does not support multiple speed lights effectively.GEORGE G : It would work if your Lumopro LP 160 is the same size as the Metz 54 MZ-4. That is the flash I use with this bracket. I hope this helps you.PAUL T : yes this is what I used with the small Photoflex LiteDome I also needed the AC-B200SC LITEDOME BASIC CONNECTOR not sure if you will need this for the octobox.. I also hooked up a sunpak 622 to my Litedome feel free to email me for more info
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?LOUIS C : It works great at events and it is sturdy.

It's way better than the original design

There seems to be confusion between this, the new design, and the first generation flash mount. This holds up well in my home studio. Why pro shooters would even have this gear is beyond me. You should be shooting Profoto or the like, this is not pro level gear. Pair this up with a Photoflex medium Half Dome, Yongnua 560ii and a Plus X and for a few hundred bucks you have a nice light system. I mean light duty!

Flimsy Design

I used this accessory on a Photoflex lightstand at wedding receptions and for lifestyle portraiture. Within months, one of the two shoe mounts broke and the other two pieces never felt firmly in place. The lightstand broke today so I'll be replacing the entire set up ASAP.

Flimsy, but works

I've used this with the Small LiteDome softbox, but don't recommend it. The L-Bracket is too weak to hold even the small softbox. This product says it's intended for the X-Small softbox, but that's not much bigger than the much easier to use (and pack!) LumiQuest SBIII or LTp. If you're looking for a larger softbox for your hot shoe flashes, this is not what you want. Get the Lastolite Ezybox Softbox for hot shoe flashes.

good addition to the on location kit

good addition to my on location kit. Keeps a strobe and transceiver together, in one place, so neither is hanging around. We use them regularly for our off camera fill flashes when space and a clean pro look is important. Just don't drop it with the strobe attached. This unit will hold up, but the plastic mount on the strobe won't.

Weak product broken within months

Used a few times for location photography. A few months after purchasing found it broken in the bag. The set screw in one the shoe mounts broke off. This is reported in another review here so most likely it is a flaw in the design. Be aware, treat it cautiously.

Sub-par. Broke within months.

I do mostly on location photography and travel a lot. Within a couple of trip this piece was falling apart (literally). The little bolt on the side of the hot shoe holder snaped off. The metal lead to keep one of the pieces on track became lose and before a headshot photoshoot just fell off. The material is quite weak and bends even with a 16"x22"x13" softbox. If you do get this make sure you take extra good care of it. Put it in a safety box if you travel.

good but expensive

I liked the idea of using my camera Flash 580II with a soft box. I've even attached it to a 24"x24" softbox and worked well, I prefer if its a little bit thicker. Also over priced.
