PGD Tracker

Don't take my review as gospel because I really haven't used the Tracker much, only 2-3 times. I'm a full time pro, but I shoot 90% nature landscapes, but chose to purchase the Tracker because the few times I choose to shoot birds a year have been an exercise in frustration. I was hoping the Tracker would help alleviate the frustration somewhat. Since purchasing it, I have only used it 2-3 times and while I believe it has helped I still need a lot more practice before it becomes second nature. Unfortunately, since I don't shoot birds very often, I don't know if it'll ever become second nature. That said, I do believe it had helped with acquiring and following the birds in flight and with acheiving proper focusing/sharpness. I feel pretty comfortable saying any downfall or negative feelings are because of my lack of use, not because of any actual shortcomings of the Tracker itself.

A great aid for acquiring focus with long lenses.

I bought my PGD Tracker directly from the company a few months ago so glad to see it offered now on Adorama. I use the Tracker with my 600 mm lens + teleconverters (when I use them). The Tracker virtually guarantees that I will quickly sight the animal or bird within my viewfinder. Depending on your camera, focus settings, background distraction, etc. the Tracker vastly increases the probability of acquiring focus and usually much faster than using the viewfinder alone where it's too easy to lose the subject. The Tracker gets the subject in your viewfinder. The rest is up to you. I highly recommend the device.

A new way to stay on target!

The PGD Tracker kit facilitates keeping fast moving photo subjects in the frame while shooting with telephoto lenses without having to look through the camera's viewfinder. Tracking a subject is infinitely easier using both eyes while simply keeping the Tracker reticle on the subject!

Optical reflex sights are used with firearms for one basic reason - fast and accurate target acquisition. The same concept works for long focal length photography. It is very difficult to find and keep moving targets in sight when using the viewfinder! The technical challenge is mounting the sight to the camera in a way that maintains repeatable accuracy. The optical sight must mount to the camera easily and in precisely the same alignment every time!

The Photo Gear Designs ESM-eco (External Sight Mount) design is the result of an evolution and refinement of a simple but extremely precise design. It is built in the USA using the highest quality structural and UV resistant plastic, machined to very close tolerances on modern CNC equipment. The mount rail is aircraft grade aluminum machined to the minimum necessary dimensions. It is anodized for lifetime reliability. The ESM-eco is very strong and rigid yet weighs only 27 grams!

While testing the ESM-eco we discovered an ideal optical reflex sight with the qualities we desired:

• A large lens for the projected reticle with minimum field of view obstruction
• Multiple reticle styles
• Red and Green reticle colors
• Rugged design and good weather resistance

We had additional changes made to the design to optimize the sight for our photographic mission and we added our name to it as an ideal match for the ESM-eco mount, resulting in the PGD Tracker Kit! We are not only passionate photographers, we are perfectionists who demand excellence. We are proud to be able to now offer this kit to our fellow photographers!
