One of the most frustrating aspects of traditional metal beauty dishes is just how large and cumbersome they are when traveling or shooting on location. Phottix changed all that with the Luna II Folding Beauty Dish, a 24" light shaper that unlike rigid metal dishes, folds down to a fraction of its open size for compact transport and storage.
The Luna II is constructed from high temperature white softbox material supported by 8 flexible metal rods. These rods are attached to the captive "Bowens" style S-mount speed ring and can be locked in either a folded or open position. The Luna II sets up in about the same time it would take you to remove a standard dish from a case and mount it.
While the quality light and fall-off is very similar to metal beauty dishes, the edge can be taken off of Luna II's output with the fabric front diffuser and light spill can be controlled with the included honeycomb grid.
Note
The Luna II's speedring is captive and not swappable, original Luna rings are not compatible.
