Questions & Answers

Leandro G : Does it work with Cannon 60Da?Leandro G : Thanks, Dean. I think the only difference between 60D and 60Da is just inside, the sensibility to infrared. Do you use it in your 60D with or without the RA-E3 adapter?DEAN H : Works with my 60D. I don't have the A version.Leandro G : Thank you, Donald! I'm still not sure, but I guess 60 Da is a C8, wich means that I would need this one here: <a href="http://www.adorama.com/PHTR90C8.html" target="_blank">http://www.adorama.com/PHTR90C8.html</a> In the description they say it is the propper replacement to TC-80N3, the one from canon for this camera.DONALD K : Here's how i found out: Go to Canon's 60Da page, accessories tab. Scroll down to their remote switch, click on "compatible products". See the 60Da and the T2i on the list. I purchased this product and it works with my T2i, so it should work with your 60Da. I don't remember how i found out if it would work for my T2i before i bought it. It was some roundabout way like the above. Canon makes finding this stuff very hard. Their own TC-80N3 Timer Remote for the 60Da cannot be found on their web site. You may or may not have to use Canon's RA-E3 Remote Controller Adapter, packaged with the 60Da. Sure wish the 60Da was out when i bought my T2i!
Shopper : Does this version have the On/Off Switch?DONALD K : Yes it has an on/off switch for the entire unit. The photo is outdated. The 'timer start/stop' button is also labelled on/off. The first push turns on the unit, the second push turns on the timer. Next push turns off the timer. Push and hold to turn off unit.DEAN H : Nope. Doesn't need one, even the official Canon one doesn't have an on/off.JERRY A : Yes, It also serve as the timer start/stop button when the unit is powered on. You have to hold the button down for a few seconds to get it to turn on and likewise to turn it off. The start/stop function gives an immediate response. I use it to operate my Canon T3i, it should work with Canon cameras that use a 2.5 mm 3 position mini-plug. I purchased this one because it has a cable that is fixed to the unit, not pluged-in, one less connector to fail. I'm very happy with it, and it uses a common battery (2xAAA) not some expensive coin cell! Good Luck!!MICHAEL B : yes has on off switch easy to useBOB A : No it deos not. I don't use it very often so I pull the batteries.ALEX M : not, but i had the batteery working year agoRAJAT K : It does not have a dedicated switch, but you have to press the START/STOP button for a few seconds and it turns off.MICHAEL L : Yes, the on/off switch is on the upper right - hold it down for 5 seconds. Bought this last month. Very pleased.
Shopper : Does this work with the T4i? Don't see it listed...BOB A : I don't have a T4i, so I looked it up a different way. I have the 60D using the C6 version of this remote. So I went to the Canon web site and checked the remotes for both cameras and they are the same model number. Given that, this is the one for your T4i.

TR-90 Multi-Function Timer Remote

This is a little more expensive than some of the other remotes I've had in the past. I've only had it a couple of weeks. So far, so good. Easy to use and works well.

Great Remote Control

This is a well made remote control for my Nikon 810. It is easy to use and program and it fits comfortably in the hand.

I'm impressed

First, ignore the web page that says it ships with 2xAAA batteries: IT DOES NOT. So if you go from the post office to the field with it, you may be disappointed. Functionally, it's very comparable to the Canon intervalometer. It has a proper on/off switch through holding down the start/stop button for a few seconds. It feels good in your hand. I'm using it on a Canon SL1 for star trail photography, and it seems to work just fine. If I had my preference, and Canon timers weren't so bloody expensive, I'd not buy a third party - personal preference. And since the SL1 doesn't have the three pin connector and needs an additional cable to convert, it's even more expensive, even use. I'd rather buy used Canon gear than new non-Canon, but that's me. All in all, this seems to be a nice timer. We shall see how well it holds up over time.

Frustrating Failures

I used the Photix TR-90 for about 3 months and it performed wonderfully at the task of timing my long exposures. The frequency of use was 3-5 times per month, so 10-15 uses before it stopped communicating with my camera. The timer function continued but it no longer controls the shutter. Prior to it's abject failure I could bring on it's erratic behaviour by moving the wire at the camera end back & forth...a loose connection. Very frustrating. I use the device to collect long exposures for astrophotography & this is a malady seemingly common. I am now on my 3rd intervalometer in 2 years.

remote timer for the non-techie in us

I've had a few remote timers but this one is the only one I found without a learning curve. It has an on-off switch, 2 aaa batteries for plenty of power. Set to activate and start imaging. Has a stop feature to interrupt shooting and a restart. I am using mine for astro imaging so after I shut off the unit I can turn it on the next evening and the previous settings have been saved. great features are on-off switch, 2 3-a batteries, fool proof adjusting settings and settings memory. doug

I just want to use it as a shutter release for my Nikon D800, but it won't work at all.

Not suitable for Canon EOS

Just received the TR-90 for my Canon 5D Mark IIs. It's unusable. The connector doesn't have a threading screw to tighten into the camera body. The unit's female connector simply fits onto the camera's three pins and falls off. Just seeing how it works at my desk, the thing falls off. Without a screwing mechanism, this is useless.

Great Product

I use this product for astronomy imaging with a Canon 20DA. I take multi images of the same object for up to 3 to 4 hours. Hands free operations. I also own their other remotes for the Fuji IS Pro and for the Canon T3i.

Not a bad alternative to the Canon

The only reason I didnt give this item 5 stars is because the directional controls are a little cumbersome. The Canon version has an actual button to switch between modes. Other than that, it works just fine. No other reason to buy the Canon one.

Finally an on/off switch!

I've had a similar unit before for another body and the lack of a power switch was annoying always having to take the batteries out between uses, this model now includes a power switch which helps no end, and the functionality of the unit is great for time lapse shots, bulb exposures, and other landscape shots with longer shutter speeds where you don't want to be touching/bumping the camera while shooting... also handy to use in cold weather for remote release off a tripod while wearing gloves.

Great product, easy to use. 1 page user-manual which was easy to understand and was quickly able to learn to use it.

Phottix TR-90

There are two photographers in the house and we both like to make long exposure photos. We have been sharing a Nikon intervalometer, MC-36, and we have had too many conflicts around who was going to get to use it. We needed another one but did not want to pay the price of another Nikon unit. The Phottix TR-90 is perfect for what we want. Its controls are identical to the Nikon so it does not matter who gets which unit. Works great!

Phottix TR-90 C8

I was looking for something that was comparable to the Canon C8, but didnt want to spend more money than needed. Found the Phottix version, and am happy to say it has met all my expectations. Has all the features of the canon TC-80 at around half the price.

The Phottix TR-90 Multi-Function remote (PH18340) provides a simple trigger function and can activate the bulb function on Canon C6 cameras. It provides such functions as a self-timer, interval timer, long-exposure timer, exposure count setting feature. It is a good replacement for Canon TC-80N3.
