I considered this turntable, as well as the Technics version which is about ($) more expensive. After reading some other online reviews, I decided to save the ($) and invest half the difference in a quality cartridge. Although I have not seen nor used the Technics turntable, I'm very happy with my purchase of the Pioneer, as it feels solid and well-built, and does everything I wanted it to do. I would recommend this to anyone interested in an under ($) turntable.

For vinyl enthusiasts and professional DJs alike, the Pioneer Electronics PLX-1000 Professional Direct Drive Turntable is a top-tier choice that combines classic aesthetics with modern performance. This DJ-quality analog turntable is meticulously designed to deliver superior audio playback, replicating the authentic feel and sound of vinyl music.
The PLX-1000 boasts a user-friendly control layout, reminiscent of the setups favored by top DJs both past and present. With quick tempo control capability on the right, a start/stop button on the left, and a high-torque platter featuring a lighted speed guide, this turntable offers an intuitive and seamless user experience.
At the heart of the PLX-1000 is a high-torque direct drive system, providing stable rotation and exceptional control. This robust mechanism can achieve a starting torque of at least 4.5kg/cm and reach its fixed rotation speed within 0.3 seconds at 33 1/3 rpm, ensuring a smooth and consistent performance.
Sound quality is paramount in the design of the PLX-1000. Pioneer has employed a heavy-mass zinc die-cast chassis for the top section, reinforced with an 8-mm thick resin bottom section. Further stability is provided by a 9-mm thick vibration-damping material at the base of the unit, resulting in remarkably stable playback. The tone arm, insulated with rubber to minimize howling effects during playback, and the gold-plated, machine-cut RCA jacks ensure low impedance and excellent sound quality output.
The PLX-1000 offers a wide range of tempo adjustments, from +/-8% and +/-16% to +/-50%, catering to a variety of pitch speeds. A conveniently located "RESET" button allows for instant +/-0% fixed rotation speed.
For added convenience and customization, the PLX-1000 features detachable power and audio cables. This allows for easy movement of the unit and the ability to interchange cables to further tailor the sound quality to your preference. Pair the PLX-1000 with a Pioneer professional series DJM mixer for the ultimate system for vinyl aficionados.
