I bought this thinking they have reduced the price because it must not be good. But OH BOY! I was wrong. What a great full sound. You can’t beat the price.

The app that controls the Polk speaker (which is a great product in itself) is utterly useless. It is clunky, poorly designed and error-prone - almost every day I have to reset the entire system, with variable success. Usually after 30 minutes of failed attempts I give up... extremely frustrating. Avoid until the improve the software.

We bought 2 of these to cover the larger rooms in the house. Needed only 1 to cover family room and are using other for the yard. Great Sound quality.

Bought a set to use pool side and I couldn't be happier! Would agree that the iOS interface kind of stinks, but the Android App on my phone is awesome. Would love it if there were a Microsoft app for the Surface, but can't complain too much (yes we are a multi-brand family). Will eventually upgrade and buy the sound bar for our TV, but these two will do just fine for the time being. Shout out to the Best Buy rep who recommended this set up over the SONOS system.

I was totally unable to set up the wi-fi on this unit. The software for running the wi-fi speakers on a Mac is a file type ".exe" so it would only function if you were running windows. The app for ipad/iphone was totally nonfunctional. After trying all the troubleshooting options, I just used the aux cord. That would have been fine, except the sound just died midway through a song last week. Since then, it has been totally broken. I have restarted, reset, redone basically everything I can think of with no success. I am done with this unit - the sound was great when it worked. I posted my question to the Q&A section on this site - never got a response. Wireless streaming music- the primary reason i bought the stupid thing- hasn't worked at all. Now, even the sound doesn't function. It is a $300 paperweight.

Just received this unit. Did the setup - a few hiccups, but it got the network and then took a few tries to download the update. Once the update came through was able to play music via pandora with no problem. The sound is good and, yes, I would put it a notch higher than SONOS Play 1. The fact that it's rechargeable battery and can moved with no interruption is awesome. Here is where it falls flat. The iOS or iPhone, iPad software is nice, but not cutting edge. The SONOS app is a bit better, but that's OK as you don't look at the app all that much and the Polk app works. Where it falls short is that SONOS is on it's own mesh network (which is basically inconsequential to the end user - where it does matter is you can start music on songs and then leave. If your device that started the session leaves or the app is shut off the WiFi network (let's say you went to work) on a SONOS the music keeps playing. With Polk it stops. Furthermore, any device that has SONOS installed can change the music, skip a track, change the station, change the volume - it can be me, my wife or my daughter. They can do this at anytime. Same with Polk, but with Polk you are limited to mobile only apps (e.g., iOS or Android). While working on my mac laptop I can't access anything on Polk - whereas I can with SONOS. The result with SONOS we have music playing about 16 hours a day. We leave and come back to music - we change it through the day, a station that someone started at 9am is changed at 3pm possibly by someone else - even though the originator of the station left hours ago. With Polk it has to start and stop - and can be done only through mobile devices (given a choice mobile devices are better than full computer apps, but it should be both). SONOS also has a pause/play button - with this button we pause the music when we turn in for the night and close down the house and then hit the same button when we wake up - no need to access the app. I understand that Play-Fi is an open standard so that the people making good speakers, like Polk, can make a wireless music system. But for now, the SONOS mesh network is much better. And, just so it's clear - Play-Fi is way, way better than Apple's AirPlay (drops all the time) and Bluetooth (low quality sound). Polk did good and I like that we paid a sale price for this item and I like the ability to just move it, but at full retail I would be hard pressed to suggest this item. Hopefully version 2 is a bit better.

I did not expect the first battery powered Wi-Fi speaker to come from a real audio company, but I'm pleasantly surprised that it has. My brother in law has a full Sonos setup, complemented by some Bose products. They sound okay, but having tasted a richer audio experience before, I was waiting for an audio brand to go Wi-Fi. The S2R sounds great, and I can move it around the house without plugging it in every time. The sound is very impressive for its size--noticeably better than a Play 1, with rich bass, mids, and highs. I live in a small apartment, and it fills my home. The form factor is very portable and convenient. In terms of software setup, I'm a windows guy, so rather than download the iOS or Android app, I downloaded the unbranded Play-Fi app to my laptop. I love it, it basically plays all system audio to whatever I want. I imagine the mobile apps are even nicer. I have a Lumia 1020 phone, but am not in the habit of listening a lot or storing music on my phone, so this isn't an issue for me. In order to achieve lossless wi-fi audio, it seems there is some signal lag, so watching movies over play-fi doesn't work well. Having heard the difference, I don't mind the tradeoff, and it's a non-issue when listening to music. I can just plug the speaker into my projector via 3.5mm aux cable when I do that, because it fits anywhere. My next purchase will be the Omni SB1, which has home theatre connections to complement the Play-Fi. Props to Polk for a compelling and awesome product family. I'm definitely thinking about how to build out a full collection for my home now.
