Do Not Buy This Sub!!!

I added this Subwoofer to my Polk speaker collection, 15 speakers. This Subwoofer when it was new really didn't perform very well, it would put out some bass but not any kind of room shaking bass. Everytime I adjusted the settings to get some real bass it would distort so I would immediately turn it back down. So, I had to use it as a third Subwoofer because it has VERY LIMITED EXCURTION built in to the voice coil and 12" speaker. It must have a very short and small voice coil paired with a paper cone woofer with no ability to move any low frequencies and could only perform around 60Hz and above. Now for the AMPLIFIER, after I owned it for about 1 year I could hear a hearbeat coming from this Sub, Even when it off. The board on the amplifier has a problem that should be recalled on these. Just Google PSW125 Heartbeat and see for yourself. I have not written any other negitive reviews on my Polk Audio inventory. So I called the warranty department to get this fixed for me, which they should have but didn't. They basically told me to "Kick Rocks". So good luck if you spend your money on this one like I did.

Tons of boom!

I have one psw125 and it has tons of boom! I thought buying 2 would be necessary, but that would be ridiculously to much bass!

PSW 125 rosewood

Although I'm happy with the performance of the sub I'm not happy with the finish. I purchased this sub to match my RTiA9's and CSiA6 finish which is the Rosewood. The 125 is neither a rosewood color (more like a red oak color) nor is it a wood veneer as are the A9's and A6. It is instead covered in a cheesy laminate. If you're interested in simply matching the acoustics of your Polk speakers I recommend you just purchase the Black finish and not the rosewood.

PSW125 cherry finish

Looks good as well as it performs! No cabinet rattle in this baby. Big bass without the rumble compared to other subs in this price range. Works great with my Onkyo receiver set at 80HZ for the crossover freq.

PSW125 Good parts quality, hear texture in bass

Looking this over as a "tweeter" there is almost nothing to mod, good parts, I just put some more Fiberloft in away from the hot digital amp, and some dampening material on sides. My audiophile friends will freak out on the texture and sonic quality. the best 266 dollars (Amazon) I've spent. Don't know how Polk sells this for under 300 dollars. Polk guys, you got my attention and future speaker plans.

PSW125 subwoofer is great value for the cost

I bought the PSW10 brought it home and returned it the following day. It distorted easily and did not impress me very much. I was about the give up on Polk Audio and read some good reviews on the PSW125 so took a chance and exchanged it for the 12. Only cost me 100$ more and I can't believe the difference. I am very pleased with my purchase. I would say this is the best sub you can get for the money. I have tried several subs and some more expensive and this one out performs them all. I am very happy with it ..Thanks Polk Audio!!

Purchased 2 PSW 125's for Home Theatre use and after only around 10 hrs of very light use 1 has quit working. Power will not come on and the fuse is good. They worked great and I especially like the Speaker Level input option.

Purchased a new home entertainment system. Bought the CS20, TSi200,PSW125, and TSi500 speakers. This setup rocks! The sound is incredible! I'm running them through a 5 channel Pioneer receiver, and there isn't any distortion. Nice even sound heard throughout a 2,000 sq. ft. house.

I own two(2 of these subwoofers set up with JBL ES 80 and E 80 floorstanding speakers, along with a Polk Tsi center speaker running through an onkyo system. The sound quality is great, loud and booming working perfectly for whatever form of media is pumping through them at the time. From metal to rap and reggae this woofer is the perfect compliment for any of those to hear that extra sound you may have been missing. In movies, it will shake the house. In video games it responds to the soundtracks of games as well as the random noises as well as gunshots and explosions that come about fairly often in games such as Halo, Mass Effect, and Gears. Overall a really well built product!

I dont know why anyone would say they have to crank it full to hear it. I suspect it is a reciever issue. I have mine set about half way and it does pound when you watch movies and supper deep with the music. Definately a good buy if you get on sale. Almost as good as my psw505.

It is what is it. It's a decent purchase . No one should expect high levels of ground shaking bass from this... of course for that you have to move up. For a small room, secondary system, it's acceptable. I found the optimal spot for it in my room and I still had to turn the volume up to max to get an acceptable level from it. Below the max volume setting there's very little output from it. It's kind of all or nothing. In my situation if I crank my receiver up the satellites start to drown out, overpower, the sub once I reach a certain volume level. I think it would be much better (actually pretty darn good) if it had a more powerful amp. I was worried it might be a one note boom box, but it had some decent sound quality to it. IME/situation it works best at low to mid sound levels.

system: pioneer vsx33, tsi500s, tsi 300s, cs20 center, psw125, 12 ga. wire w/bananas, mediabridge sub cable. Well, it took me a few months to finally figure out my receiver enough to get some really great sound out of my system. Or maybe it was speaker break-in....Now I can hear the sub perfectly. It enhances everything from music to tv to movies. Pandora sounds absolutely awesome.

A well built quality audio component. The PSW10 works especially well with movies. I was unsure about even the need for a subwoofer for a home theatre system since I have a set up in a relatively small room, but I decided to give it try. Especially given the price, a factor which had turned me off trying one in the first place as most subwoofers were going for well over 300 dollars. Price is an object for many, many people. Polk's education centre was also a factor in deciding to go with a sub. Once I unpacked it and hooked it up I took Polk's advice and with a bit of adjustment I was impressed with the results. You will definitely experience a much richer, deeper sound with a sub. And reading the other reviews here has proven quite helpful. So kudos to Polk for putting out a high quality audio component with excellent performance at a price most of us can actually afford.

I bought this sub and really liked it the handful times that I used it. I bought it at Best Buy without the extra protection plan. After about 5 months and only using it less than ten times the amplifier quit working. The power comes on and nothing happens. Best Buy won't do anything since I did not buy the extra protection and the cost of shipping is not worth shipping it to Polk. Very disappointed with this product.

Hey Dave - You don't know what you're talking about. This IS a powered sub so please don't comment on something you have no idea about. I am using this small footprint sub to augment the bass in a Onkyo CR-445 mini system for music listening. It performs that function magnificently and can really crank out the bass if turned up. Also use to increase sound from TV in stereo mode as my receiver is not a home theater. Very impressive tight sound and very compact. Would purchase again.

So far I have only used this sub for music... The home theater isn't done yet. This sub is great! Clear and precise bass that'll get you moving. I can't wait to hear it down in the basement with 7.1 surround through my Denon AVR-888. Great sub for a great price, highly recommended.
