Two different colors of speakers. One like new, the other is in pretty rough shape. Missing the bridge plates from the connection posts. Had to use electrical wire to make the tweeters and mids work.

I just turned 70 and going back to my college days. I bought a used amp, new turntable and your S55 speakers. The speakers are unbelievable! Rock On!

I love these speakers. They sound terrific! It's difficult to understand the sound that comes out of these for no larger than they are. I have a 7.2 surround sound system with all Polk Audio speakers. These have really increased the enjoyment of the sound from movies, cd's and 12" lp records I have.

Got these S55 a while ago and finally decided to write a review. These speakers are loud, the require power and a break in period before you experience the full effect. The highs and mids are clear and not distorted nor too bright. They also pump out a decent amount of bass. Sometimes I cannot tell if the woofer is on or not. The power port makes for easy placement and the cabinet is designed well. My setup includes these up front, S50 o the rears, S30 center and the HTS10 sub. These are powered by my ancient Pioneer VSX1020k at 110w @ 8ohms and they could benefit from some more. Some may say these are budget but for under 2k I say otherwise. Very happy with these speakers. Next upgrade would be Legend

Outstanding sound, took my home theater to a whole new level. I have been a Polk fan for over 15 years and will stay that way until my hearings gone.

Looks great but sound leaves more to be desired. My expectation is that a speaker at this price would be impressive and feel let down. Sounds OK-ish. Same tweeter and mid range as the S20 but this cabinet is much bigger and there?s no bracing, or at least it sounds like there?s no bracing. Polk could have easily addressed this during the manufacturing process but I guess they had to do cut corners to save a few dollars here and there. Another annoying thing I found is the cheap plastic plugs that are put in the terminal connectors for the speakers. These have to be removed in order to use banana plugs and two of mine cracked even though I tried to take them out carefully they are stuck and it?s a pain in the butt to get them out. I feel like these were designed with looking good as the priority.

Great sound - clean, crisp and balanced. I use these mainly for movies and TV in living room. Paired these with S35 center channel, 2 sub woofers and surround speakers and they are wonderful together..

Today (12/5/21) I set up my new S55's which replaced the old speakers to my 1991 Sony rack system. I've been without stereo music for almost 4 years and I'm in heaven now. These speakers have the power and impedance of my old speakers (breaking them in now) and sound wonderful. They were delivered promptly and set up was easy peasy. I'm 100% satisfied. My Christmas gift from me to me!!! Thank you, Polk Audio!!!

Bought the S55's to replace my old Sonic AS227 3-way speakers purchased in Viet Nam over 50 years ago. They did serve me well and I could never blow them up! However, these new S55's and the S20 bookshelf speakers are such an improvement! Much better bass, I don't even need to hit the loudness button anymore to get a powerful bass response. Also, the musical detailing - being able to hear TV voices and pick out the different musical instruments make listening so much more enjoyable.

I bought these from a large furniture store here in Nebraska. They were on a good sale and after running them through the gambit of test songs decided to pull the trigger. Man am I happy I did. The sound is very clear and natural. The base extension is nice and smooth. Make sure to give them some room to breathe and you will not be disappointed. Now I have my eye on the 700's.

Great soundstage, warm with balanced high end and powerful but musical bass. My Denon AVR x2500h is quite adequate. Can do without a sub for music. Wish they had the white ones, the craftsmanship is excellent. You can pay more but will not get much more with more expensive towers. S 55s are just the right tradeoff between size and sound quality. The 6.5? drivers do make a big difference. Paired with a S30 is just perfect.

Clear and clean for the highs and mids. I feel like I'm sitting at a live concert when I'm listening to music. A subwoofer is needed for the lows though.

Have about 20 hours of playtime on this and it just keeps sounding better and better. Great full sound without sacrificing midrange.

These speakers are great. No sub needed, plenty of bass. Very sensitive, I have them bi-wired with a Sony STR-DN1080 and the Polk S35 center channel. They sound great at medium to high volume, lower volumes, lose some detail, but I think that?s more the Sony receiver. If I had them hooked up to a nice integrated amplifier, that would probably help, but for me this is a great fit because I use the center channel for television. By the way sports and movies sound amazing as well! They?re not rear ported, but with the power port on the bottom, you can put the speaker basically right up against the wall and it sounds great. Very stylish with rounded edges and built-in feet. Very happy with my purchase!

The Polk Audio S55 is a very bright, powerful, and balanced speaker. Overall the sound stage is phenomenal. These speakers fill up large spaces well. I have 12' ceilings and these do a pretty good job filling the room. For a normal sized room, these are more than adequate. The power handling is impressive. Although it can accommodate up to 200w, it also played loud and strong when connected to my vintage H/K Twin Power 430. That receiver is only offering 25 clean filtered watts, and these played fine. They are very efficient. Now, let me preface by saying I have only owned them a week or so, and they have not been broken in yet. Out of the box, the quality was impressive. The cabinets are sleek, quality, and large. The white is striking and blends into my wife's decor better than any other cab offered. Build quality is superb. Sound: Highs. The highs are very bright, almost a little too bright for my taste. I keep the treble flat on these and the sound improves. Increasing the treble above zero creates a harsh "tinny" sound. Mid range is where this speaker shines. Vocal and speech are very dynamic. Very clear, and the soundstage gives you the impression that there is a center channel. Lows: Bass response it tight, clean, and deep. Not amazing, but for this price, you simply will not find a better balanced loudspeaker, period. I was concerned that this speaker would only be tuned as front channels for a home theater system, and that music would fall a little flat, but to my surprise, these make for an excellent 2-channel setup. Audio replication is superb, but be advised that these speakers WILL accurately play, and any interference, or from your DAC, cables, turntable, stylus, etc... will be more noticeable. There is a distinct audio sound from these speakers when playing new vinyl vs. vintage or dirty albums. This is not a fault of the speaker, but more of testament to how accurately they reproduce sound. Plus, it forced me to finally clean some of that old vinyl. lower quality speakers to to mask or hide some of those input imperfections, but not these. They are spot on accurate for this price-point. Negatives: I know Polk is proud of these new tweeters. They are great, but are a bit too bright, and not quite natural enough for my taste. They could be a little better. At this point, they are probably much better than they should be. Lows: if you have a big space like me, the bass is not quite punchy enough to fill a big room. You'll want to look at a dedicated subwoofer to help. In any standard size room, you will not need any additional bass. Overall, I can hear the speakers getting better each time I play them. Also, maybe its just me, but I feel like the speaker grills do help soften the tweeters a bit. Not sure Polk engineered them this way, but that could explain why they sound bright without. I don't like the grills. They hide the beautiful white cabinet face, and because the speakers are so large, its a bit too much black on a white cab. No problem, take them off...Lastly, these speakers are true Polk Audio sound. I had a pair of Monitor 70 II, and LOVED them, I actually went to order a new set, saw these on sale, and decided to pull the trigger SOO happy with that choice. These sound amazing. Plain and simple. Every speaker and very setup with have pros and cons. But what you can afford, and enjoy what you have. You don't need thousands of dollars to enjoy great sound. These are proof!!!

I purchased the Polk S55's in 2018 and have enjoyed them a lot since (currently 2020. My use is 100% music and I listen to a wide variety with them including pop, hip hop, instrumental, country, vocal/classical crossover, rock, alternative rock/grunge, and heavy metal. The sound is clean and clear with no perceptible distortion and these speakers handle all those genres well. The highs are detailed but not harsh like other brands at the same price point, they just hit that sweet. I am fully addicted to the music they play. They are good enough, that live music recordings sound like you're there to me. Vocal music is just incredible on them. They play mid frequencies well and the cross overs balance the soundstage well. I have them bi-wired and it seemed to me that the highs were just a little more detailed by doing that, but the difference is minor. Base is adequate, but I use a dedicated sealed powered sub, which increases my enjoyment. Music is best in 2.1 mode with my setup but I do use other modes frequently. I found best results when I cross them over at about 60 Hz with the sub but they can go lower with no problem, I just love the extra base from the sub. The room I have them in is large 25'x30', and they fill the room with music very well, no problem. I run them on a receiver that supports 145 watts per channel, but I feel like they could do better with a little more power because of the drop off in sound quality when run in different modes and when I fiddle with the crossover point. That probably has more to do with my receiver than the speakers (next in line for an upgrade). I run them with the S30 center, and S15 bookshelves when listening in other modes and the system matches really well. I am all about performance, but they look nice too. If Polk's Signatures line up with your budget, I highly recommend them.

The Polk S55 speakers sound great and per the recommendations of experts, the height of the speakers is just under 1/2 of the height of the ceiling.

Exceeded my expectations for sound reproduction and quality of construction. This is a full range speaker in the truest sense. Smooth, clean highs and bass that will rival your subwoofer. In fact, I reset my Polk subwoofer as not to compete with the S55's. The S55's can be biwired or bi-amped. I'll be exploring that soon as that's the only possible improvement that can be made to the S55's.

An incredible speaker! Great range from the highs to the lows. I actually reset my Polk subwoofer a bit because the subwoofer in this is so deep. The first reason I chose Polk was their incredible definition. The second was that Polk speakers accurately play the source material without adding "color" of their own. Finally, these speakers are High Resolution certified. Obsolescence is not on the horizon. If your speakers are more than a few years old, they're not ready for High Resolution music files. Polk S55's are the ticket for mid-sized rooms and when your budget needs to stay inside of the $ mark. Crank 'em and enjoy!

Surprisingly good sound, good overall quality. Not a LSiM workmanship but of course you can buy 6 of these for price of LSiM speaker. Actually I had to turn off my subwoofer because I couldn't believe that these speakers could produce such a deep thunder sound to be sure and yea , sound came from them too . Heights are good and crisp, mid are somewhat missing but most people use their EQ to lower mid Hz anyway. All in all I would highly recommend these speakers, truly they have only one flaw and it is not a problem with a speakers anyway but with description. These speakers are 4 OHMs as are all Signature Series Speakers. That's why they loose a star . To me that's unacceptable that even Polk website will not tell you the truth.
