This is a great addition to my gear. It is flat and takes up little room yet it holds a heavy duty head and my Nikon 810 easily and is very stable. The legs allow me to level the camera on an uneven surface.

For those occasions when a full blown tripod is not practical. Traveling light for business I am still able to sneak out at night for some photography without having to find a way to bring along my tripod.

This is a great addition to my gear. It is flat and takes up little room yet it holds a heavy duty head and my Nikon 810 easily and is very stable. The legs allow me to level the camera on an uneven surface.
The Platypod Pro is constructed of a 4mm thick plate of aircraft grade aluminum measuring 3x5 inches. Solidly welded through this base is a 3/8 inch titanium screw to accommodate most professional tripod ball heads. This allows one to attach the plate to the ball head by simply rotating either one, tool-free. Bolt placement is ideally balanced to allow mounting of a pro tripod head. This will easily accommodate professional DSLRs such as a Nikon D810 or a Canon EOS 5D Mark III with a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens. Large telephoto lenses can be used as well but mounting with the tripod collar ring of such a lens is recommended. Attachment to a piece of 3/4 inch plywood with common wood-screws will support even the largest sports lenses! A second, 1/4 inch titanium screw is attached at the other end of the plate to allow placement of smaller devices such as a video mike, transmitter, flash accessory shoe, etc. There are three threaded holes in the plate to optionally attach small spike/screws with small rubber caps allowing the photographer to balance the plate sturdily on an uneven surface such as a boulder.
The plate also has four un-threaded holes to allow permanent or semi-permanent attachment of the plate to any wood plank, table, wall or ceiling. In fact, the Platypod Pro can used as a base for any device with a 3/8" or 1/4" tripod type threaded hole. This includes/umbrella brackets, Smartphone/tablet supports and professional microphones using the appropriate adapters. A high-quality wallet case is provided to carry the Platypod ProTM plate with an inner pocket for the spikes and spigot adapter. It is expandable to carry a small tripod ball head (not included) measuring up to 5 inches tall by 3 inches wide including knobs. The kit even includes a 1/4" to ¾" female spigot adapter to easily attach an umbrella/flash bracket and any other accessory possessing a male 1/4 inch or 3/4 inches photographic bolt.
