Questions & Answers

Shopper : Can you use it with an L-bracket?RYAN N : Yes, as long as the ballhead you put on it accepts your L-BracketWilliam B : Gave it as a gift to my son. He enjoys using on the ground for macro nature shots. Do not know if it can be used with an L-brcket.STEVE K : you could, but I get better results putting a ball head on the mount and then attaching camera/lens, and the camera can have a L-bracket attachment because that would be flush with the mount screw. I use the ball head because there are times when alignment with the subject doesn't line up with the alignment of the plate when screwed down tightKEVIN G : It has a standard tripod socket in the bottom to mount a camera so as long as you can you that you should be able to mount an L BracketDOUGLAS G : That depends on which tripod head you use. I use a Really Right Stuff head and the RRS L bracket on my camera works great
DIANE T : What ball head would you recommend for use with the platypro max?Gordon C : Virtually any bald head will work, I am working with the manfrotto system so got there mid-level ball head. Something smaller than the most expensive one and lighter. Works great.CHAD P : It will hold anything so really whatever you are comfortable with using. I know it's a vague answer but I literally just use the Sirui ball head from my tri pod that I already have.RYAN N : It depends on your camera and lens. I'd use your normal ballhead you use with a full size tripod. I use my Really Right Stuff BH-55 ball headPATRICK B : Max base plate is a flat tripod base compatible with any tripod ball head except ones that have knobs that extend past the bottom of the headDOUGLAS G : I use a Really Right Stuff BH55 since I already have Really Right Stuff plates and brackets on my lenses and camera bodies.PHILIP S C : Manfrotto 496 Compact Ball Head 496 with Standard Platform. No quick release plate, but it works for me.JAMES B : I use the big boy on it. It's call really right stuff BH 55
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?DARYL H : Shooting from near ground and table surfaces sometimes requires an absolutely stable platform. Reviews seem to provide some assurance that this product will do the job nicely.DON V : I need a tabletop support for some macro LED (adaptalux) I often need the lights to be an inch or two above surface. My existing tripods (Gorrila) cannot get that low.LUCKY S : For portable table top supportJAMES T : To use with telescopic lens while on safari in Kenya!MICHAEL C : I needed a solid base for my remote camera for sports. By Francis S.

I recommend the Accessories Kit also for added flexibility.

Vestatile

Extremely adaptable

Meet Max
The versatile mini tripod for big camera rigs! Get steady shots in tight spots where standard tripods don't dare to go.

• For use with big camera rigs and long lenses
• About the size of a mini tablet
• Includes 4 spike/screws "legs"
• Supports up to 300 lbs. of equipment

A follow-up to the Platypod Pro, Max is a sturdy flat mini tripod ideal for low-angle shots and situations where traditional tripods are cumbersome or impractical.

Don't be fooled by Max's small stature it will be the strongest tool in your gear bag! Made of aircraft grade aluminum and titanium, Max is perfect for heavy DSLRs, large lenses and full-size video cameras. Max can support up to 300 pounds if your tripod ball head can support it, so can Max.

Why flat?
Platypods do not replace a conventional tripod, but they excel in a variety of situations:

• Max gets you the lowest possible camera placement for low-angle photography
• Fits into tighter and narrower spots than any other camera support
• Effortlessly slips into camera bag pocket without sacrificing room for lens or flash
• Great for front-heavy speedlight and accessories such as Magmod modifiers
• Take it on long hikes or treks where you need to lighten your load
• Strap or clamp on top of a ladder for high-angle shots
• Attach to a skateboard for cheap and easy tracking shots

Spikes included
Max comes with four spike-screws. Use the spiky sides for grip on rocks or the rubber ends to prevent scratching on furniture or cars. Spikes are stored in a detachable box made of fiberglass-reinforced nylon.

Follow up to Platypod Pro
Max doesn't replace the Pro - if anything, it complements it. The Pro is designed for ultra-portable support for smaller and mid-size cameras. Max has all of the benefits of its predecessor, but it packs a bigger punch! At approximately 5 x 8 inches it is around the size of an iPad Mini. The larger footprint means more stability. Like the Pro, Max is made of aircraft-grade aluminum with an embedded 3/8-inch titanium bolt.

It has some new features, including a pair of slots that can secure Max via a bungee cord or zip-ties to freestanding objects and structures. In the center are 1/4- and 3/8-inch holes to attach Max to quick-release devices, such as the Peak Design Capture Clip, or directly onto a tripod center column. For additional versatility, Platypod even provides a 1/4-1/4-inch male cross-nut to attach accessories such as Pocket Wizard transceivers.

Platypod Max Features

  • Fiberglass-reinforced nylon removable "bayonet style" storage box: mounted on to plate to hold four 1/4-20 spikes, 2 inches long, with heavy-duty rubber feet and locking nuts. Small magnets keep spikes in place for storage.
  • Two 2-inch belt slots: to secure to any cylindrical object or to tape onto floors for remote camera setups.
  • Made of 6061 black anodized aircraft-grade aluminum: 5 mm thick. 5.25 x 7.75" (5-year warranty Full replacement of parts for any defect in workmanship. Guaranteed to hold up to a 300-pound load!)
  • 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 accessory threaded holes: for attachment to tripods or quick-release devices under the unit.
  • 3/8-16 TA2 titanium photographic bolt: drilled and countersunk through the plate and welded in place for large tripod ball heads, such as the RRS-BH55, even with spike-feet in place.
  • Two nail holes: for permanent or semi-permanent mounting to walls, boards or ceilings.
  • Weight: 13 ounces, including spikes and storage box.
