Questions & Answers

m c : Can you carry it on a plane? what is the restriction of the Lithium-Ion batteriesSUDHIR P : yes you can, as far as i can remember you can download a paper from profoto that verifies that these Lithium batteries are airline approved. I have carried them with no problem, But i think the are only allowed as carry on and not for check in.PHILLIP W : The Prophoto website has the battery certification necessary for air travel. google profoto b2 battery travelAMY A : Yup, I just flew with mine today. No questions asked. Usually travel with 3 batteries.
Nicole S : The info for the B2 says the battery will last for 215 shots before needing to be charged. Is this true? What have you found? I'm planning to go on location for a corporate head shot shoot for 20-30 people in one day... how many batteries would I need?Robert D : It depends on you style of shooting. Two batteries will be enough, but take your charger just in case.HSIU-YING C : how long the battery lasts also depends on what power setting you're at. For example, if you're using it at full power it won't last as long. I would suggest plugging into an outlet if you can find one. Otherwise, I would personally prepare about 2 extra batteries just to be sure.AMY A : Depends on various factors. If your only using one head say at 1/2 power then you'll get roughly 400 shots... 1/4... 600 or so. If your using both heads then you'd need to compensate for that. The great thing is that the batteries charge pretty quick so if your able to get access to an outlet (look into one you can have in your car) you can charge as you go. So I'd say you should be safe with 3 batteries if your able to have a charging backup option. :)HARRY P : Take 2 of them that way you can put one on charge & use the outher onePETER N : i have two batteries. Never need the second. I shot with two heads with umbrellas. Set ISO to 400. Less than half power on strobe. I don't use the modeling lights.CHARLES E : I have used mine and used just one battery. I have used it to shoot head shots for a universities college sports. Two soccer teams. Depends on how much power per shot. Most of the time I'm just using it for fill close to the subject so doesn't use that much power. Dial it in, and then two or three shots per person. You should be fine. When I got mine it came with two batteries so I have never had problems.EMMETT Q : I'd take at least 2-3 batteries, just to play it safe. A lot is going to be based on your setting and if you're running one light or two. I used mine the other day for some quick product work and I was only using one light, probably shot 45 images. Camera setting were 1/125, f/11, at ISO 200 and it was draining quick, probably 50%. Power on the pack was around 6.9.PHIL W : I have a couple extra and honestly have rarely needed one extra in the year I've used the kit. But the two extra easily fit inside the carrier that came with my kit, so I'm ok with that.
Jorge Enrique S : Can I use the Profoto B2 in TTL on a Olympus OMD EM1? Will it works on these cameras?PHIL W : No, only with Canon, Nikon and just recently Sony. And I'd recommend being careful even with those because not all models within those brands are compatible. For example, Nikon's D500 was just recently added to the compatible list with a Profoto upgrade.

B-2 thoughts

Great Value at current price. Light weight. I am OK with the wires and the pack since that gives some level of support to the light stand. A drawback to using this is; you cannot use as many modifiers since the length/size of the light is very short and cannot support the same weight as a B1 or D1 light. This is actually my 2nd B-2 kit.

Great travel kit. Small but powerful enough. I would recommend getting the extensions though.

Great travel kit.

Profoto is a perfect compliment to larger B1

I have two Profoto B1 heads and wanted to do more with edge lighting on my sports subjects. The B2 250 AirTTL location kit fits the bill perfectly. The Profoto Air Remote works with both systems. I really love how everything fits in a small bag for travel. There is a lot of power in this unit. Having the included extra battery gives me confidence that I will be able to shoot without worry.

LOVE this compact system!

I've been using three B1 heads for a year or two and debated on the "need" for additional (less powerful) lights. But I've found them to perform wonderfully for accent lights on interiors. MUCH smaller package than my big Pelican case, so I'm looking forward to using just these on a location headshot session this week. I will also be trying them with large (silver) umbrellas for an upcoming group shot. Each head can be programmed for its own channel so that you can adjust them just like separate B1 units. Since they are a stop less powerful I haven't used them in a softbox yet, but as a gridded accent or a hard rim with barn doors. Very location-friendly!

Whats the point?

So you buy a B2 set and figure out the second head is useless due to the short cable included with kit. You have to figure how high the first head will be on a stand or hand held system which if your just using one light is fine. But add the second head and its not going to be usable unless its on the ground because the cable is not long enough for a second head in any scenario that I can figure out unless your shooting a hamburger out in the field. So you find yourself trying to buy a extension cable only to find it is ($) more dollars? How can something cost ($) bucks require an additional ($) bucks just to get going? Total rip off. I am sending my B2 kit back and just getting 2 B1 which have no cables and are far more logical unless you just need small heads to fit a specific need. 3 B1 heads will be my set up for sure. Although I wonder if I should just abandon Profoto after talking to the rep who could have cared less that I spent ($) on their equipment (b1 and b2 kit) and was not satisfied. Elichrom in the future? We will see. Adorama however has been awesome and I will continue my business with them.

Great addition to the B1!

I have a Profoto B1 and the B2 kit is a welcome addition! The quality of light is outstanding. Now Profoto just need to get AIR control for SONY and I would be even more happy!!

I highly recommend the Profoto B2's for location portrait shoots

I highly recommend the Profoto B2's for location portrait shoots. Unfortunately Profoto does not currently offer TTL/HSS for Sony, which limits my ability to be more creative and competitive. For standard portrait sessions, they are perfect for travel, as they are light weight and I can carry a light and shoot by myself if my assistant isn't available.

Perfect location kit for my needs

By JARED T.

Compact, bright and just what I needed for shooting on location. I wouldn’t have purchased anything else and was glad Adorama had this in stock!

B2 Head.

Pack light and give yourself maximum mobility on location with the versatile, battery-powered Profoto B2. The B2 is a powerful option, 5 times more powerful than an average on-camera flash. And it's made for light shaping with a dedicated range of OCF Light Shaping Tools that are designed for maximum mobility and ease of use.

B2 Head.

Its small, lightweight pack and head help you stay one step ahead of the action. They fit neatly into a handy carrying bag and provide you with a portable flash that weighs a shade over 2 kg (4.4 lbs). The B2 is most definitely not a stay-at-home flash. It offers automatic TTL shooting that shines brightest in challenging lighting conditions and HSS that enables you to control and shape light even in broad daylight. You can respond to any situation by using it either on or off camera. You're free to work without restraint or limitation and move freely, so it's ideal for busy events where you need maximum flexibility or when you don't have assistants to help out.

B2

- Battery Charger 2.8A -
The Battery Charger 2.8A is a standard charger that fully recharges the B1's battery in two hours, the B1X's battery in just over two hours and the B2's in one hour. All of our off-camera flash kits include a battery charger but all of our battery chargers can also be bought separately.

- Li-Ion Battery -
Get a spare battery and save yourself the trouble of having to worry about running out of power. The Li-Ion Battery for B2 provides up to 215 flashes at full power and thousands at lower power. Our Li-Ion batteries are UN-certified so you can take them on a plane, no matter what your destination.
