How do you rate a lens hood It either goes the job or doesn't, this one does.

It seems to be ok when installed/as a hood although it is a somewhat loose fit. It does not work in reverse when storing the camera (does not latch-falls off). If that is not important to you then it is a decent hood at a decent price.

I received this hood as part of a special package deal from Adorama. The hood is an OK low-cost alternative to the Canon factory hood with the exception that unlike other Canon hoods I've had over the years, you can't reverse it for storage on the lens. For some reason the bayonets won't properly lock into the lens. If this isn't an issue for you, this is a decent alternative to the Canon version.

I find it difficult to mount the hood. I bought it only because it was on sales and much cheaper than the real Canon hood.

Does what it is made for. Less expensive than the Canon version. Seems like a no-brainer

Poorly made and poor connection. It also won’t reverse itself for storage.

I use this hood on my Canon 85 and 100 mm EF lens, 1.8 and 2.0 respectively and it fits tight on the lends. The squeeze to release mechanism works well and does not require much effort to release. The hood stays on even if bumped. There is no liner on the lens side of the hood which would be nice to help prevent reflections off the inside of the lens hood. All in all, I am happy with its performance and at a reasonable price.

This product is of very low quality. It attaches to the lens by two flimsy buttons that need to be pressed and released, from what I can see the rely entirely on the flex of the plastic as opposed to any type of spring system (such as a lend cap). It will not stay on the lens when stowed away backwards. It has not left my kit bag since I unboxed it. Nasty cheap rubbish. Don't waste your money!

I love this hood that was paired with my EF 85mm f/1.8 lens. It's just right for keeping that sun glare/rain out.

Nearly all my hoods are 3rd party (various makers) and I have been happy with nearly all of them. This is my first hood that does not attach via threads (screw on). Canon made the 85mm F1.8 lens with only a groove for the hood to attach. This requires you to squeeze tabs on the hood because there are little prongs on the inside of the hood that retract or extent to "catch" the lens groove. I have previously borrowed a friend's 85mm (before buying my own) and the official Canon hood is much better than the ProOptic. The ProOptic is finicky to attach and does not seem to latch when reversed. I'll still keep it and use it and even recommend it, but I wanted to point out that this type of hood is harder to manufacture than the typical kind that merely screw in place and therefore your results may vary more than for other types of hoods.

A little flimsy, I find that it comes off the lens very easily. Obviously, don't ever try to pick it up by the hood. Can't store in bag with it on as you can't grab the hood to help you pick up the lens. But it was a free add on so can't complain too much!

Doesn't clip on very well. The clips on the side do not grab very easily and I feel like I have to really force it on. But it does stay in place once on.

This lens hood fit perfect for my 85mm. I use it on every shoot and is wide enough that it does not show vignette or outlines like others hoods that i have tried. Great job!!! I have referred this to all of my friends.

Had to wait a while as this item was out of stock, Adorama did a good job keeping me informed about the projected ship date. Given the price, the hood is a great value. It fits my Canon 85MM lens like a glove. It's easy to attach and remove. I would recommend it

This lens hood serves multiple functions, enhancing your photography experience and the quality of your images.
Primarily, it shields your lens from stray light, significantly improving contrast and overall image quality. This is particularly beneficial when shooting in bright conditions, where unwanted light can cause glare and reduce the clarity of your photos.

During inclement weather, it acts as a barrier, helping to keep moisture and wind-blown debris off your lens. This feature is crucial for outdoor photographers who often find themselves shooting in unpredictable weather conditions.
Furthermore, the lens hood safeguards the front barrel of your lens from accidental impacts. Whether you're navigating through crowded spaces or shooting in tight quarters, this lens hood can help protect your lens from bumps against walls, door frames, and other potential hazards.
Easy to attach and remove, the Dedicated Lens Hood for Canon EF lenses is designed to fit your Canon 85MM, 100MM, 135MM, 100-300MM, and 70-210MM lenses like a glove. Its secure fit ensures it stays in place, providing consistent performance and protection.
