I would NEVER recommend this hood for anything other than a wide angle lens because it is a very short hood, for a macro, or any kind of telephoto it would be absolutely useless. For a Wide Angle lens it is great. One advantage to this hood is due to it being rubber rather than plastic, there is less of a chance of it being damaged in the event you bump it into something. The metal thread can be a little of a hassle if it slips out of the rubber to put back in. Other than that, I would definitely recommend for someone who is using their wide angle lens on a frequent basis.

Had one from Adorama years back and lost it. I was really bummed. This is an excellent item and I find it superior to metal hoods.

I bought this lens hood primarily for protection of the lens while on the camera as it gets carried/moved about. Works well for that. I can still insert the standard lens cap on my 18-135 EFS lens with the hood on - some hoods don't allow for this. Even though named "Wide Angle" lens hood, at the 18mm end, the hood blocks the corners of the picture, but it's soft enough to fold back out of the way when shooting (as long as I remember).

The rubber kept folding back on the lens when I took it out of the camera bag. It fell off at one point and is a lint attractor. Went back and purchased a plastic petal lens the following week and threw this in the trash.

I purchased this to provide protection for the lens against bumps. I use a thin HOYA UV filter on the lens but it is just enough to position the hood forward and produce vignetting when using the lens between 18-35 mm on a T5I Canon APS camera.

Lens hoods guard against uncontrolled, stray light and unwanted reflections which result in reduced contrast and possible "ghost Images". In general, the use of a lens hood is recommended because better contrast improves the appearance of the photograph. This accessory also offers protection for the front lens element against rain and mechanical damage.
Wide Angle Rubber Lens Hoods are made from high - quality black rubber for lenses with an angle of view wider than 70 degrees. Due to its shape and size, it prevents vigetting and should only be used without a filter.
