Questions & Answers

Albert A : I have filters for a 67mm lens. I bought a new lens which is 77mm. Do I need a step up adapter or a step down?SCOTT F : Step down rings work only if the lenses angle of view actually smaller than the effective angle of view with the filter filter. Very few lenses now are like that now especially in the larger diameters. Everything else causes vignetting sometimes severely so. I get filters in 77mm and 52mm sizes - with a step up ring for my 67mm lenses.DAVID M : Albert A: Mechanically a step down filter ring will work---but photographically it would be a mistake! You'll be shooting through a hole!. You can use larger filters on a smaller lens---but not the other way around. Buy 77 mm filters! DavidPATRICK M : The filters are smaller than the new lens, and will ruin the edges of any shot you take. Ideally you want filters slightly larger than (requiring a step up ring) or the same size as your lens.BRADLEY A L E : Hi Albert, If you want to use your 67mm filter attached to your new lens which has a filter diameter for 77mm, you need a STEP DOWN adapter ring. But this may produce vignetting in your pictures, especially if you are using a wide angle lens, because the filter is smaller than the lens filter diameter. Hope this helps. JefferyiJORGE C : If you want to use a 67 mm filter for a 77mm lens, you will need a step-up adapter ring. It is more cost efficient to purchase a 77mm filter and use a step-down adapter for multiple size lenses.JAMES W : Confusing for sure. I use my adapter to go from a 67 mm lens to a 77mm filter. Mine is a step up. You cannot use a 67 mm filter on a 77mm lens without the filter blocking the lens. I buy filters for my largest lens ,,, 77mm and use them on smaller lens. The smaller lens don't need the extra filter but I only have to have one set of filters.THOMAS R : You need a step down filter. i.e. from 77 to 67mm. Watch out for vignetteing.RICHARD W : You need a step-up ringROBERT AND G : You would need a "Step Down" from a 77mm Lens to 67mm filter, BUT I would not recommend doing this - you definitely will get vignetting on your images, especially if it is a wide angle lens.CHARLES R : rings step up.if you put a smaller filter on a lens which is larger in dia. it will cause sever vinyeting..NICHOLAS J : You'll need a step down adapter. "Step up" is to use filters that are larger than the lens size. "Step down" is to use filters that are smaller than the lens size.TIEN N : Unfortunately, you should not use 67mm filter on a lens with 77mm thread. This will create black round corners on your pictures. It would be better to buy new filters. The largest one is 82mm, then you can use step up ring for lens with smaller filter size. Even with step up ring, if you stack up too many filters, you may get the same black corners on your picture, especially with wide angle aperture.JOHN F : Edward D is correct. I would never use a 67 mm filter on a 77 mm lens. It would block some of the normal field of view (resulting in vignetting, as Edward explained it.) I buy 77mm filters (relatively expensive) and buy step-up rings (cheap) to adapt them to smaller diameter lenses, thus eliminating the need for otherwise identical filters of various sizes.JASON L : If you have a 77mm lens then you would want to use a 77mm filter. Stepping down to 67mm will crop your image. I bought 77mm filters and stepped UP all my lenses to use the 77mm pro standard for things like polarizers.EDWARD D : For a small-diameter lens and a big-diameter filter, you need a step-up adapter ring. This is the most common scenario (safe and saves money). For a large-diameter lens and a small-diameter filter, you need a step-down adapter -- this can result in severe vignetting, depending how much smaller the filter is compared to the lens diameter. Be careful if you do this.AL C : The nomenclature is a little confusing. If I have it right a step up adapter would allow the use of a 77mm filter on a 67 mm lens. You're "stepping up" the lens ring size.Wade J : I think you'll need a step down. But you have another problem in that you'll have significant vignetting because the filters are too small for the lens. You can buy an adaptor, but you really need to buy larger filters. I learned the hard way, so I buy filters larger than what my normal lenses are. Because in the future I know I'll buy a lens that take larger filters.HOANG V : Hi Albert I think, you need a step up ring, because the diameter of the new lens 77mmm bigger than 67mm.STANLEY R : My lens is 67 and I have a 77 filter so that is a step up. I bought this so I could just push the lens in the hole for a quick shot. If your lens is 77 and you use a 67 filter, I'm afraid you will chop off the corners of any picture. See if you can find a 77 to 67 step down adapter. I've never heard of one.RON V : If you bought a new lense and it is 77mm and you have 67mm filters you need a step down adapter.CRAIG H : You need the opposite of what this ring is. This ring has male thread on the 67mm end and female thread on the 77mm end. Also, why would you want to use a 67mm filter on a 77mm lens. That will not work very well.
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?LYNDA R B : I already have a 77mm filter and wanted to be able to use it on my 67mm lens as well. This is a great way to save from having to buy a new filter for every lens.LOU H : Allows me to use my 77mm ND filters with my 62mm and 67mm lenses.GERALD H : This stepping ring will adapt my 77mm 10-stop ND filter to my 17-28mm Nikon lens with a 67mm thread, thus avoiding the need to purchase a new 67mm ND filter.CEDRIC J : price and reviewsBERT F : Have other size adapter rings and these work well and are inexpensive.HENRY B : Looks like the right toolANDREW H : Need a step up to use my nd 77mm filter on all my lensesDAVID H : It is a backup adapter with a fairly good price.Ernest D : Need it for a ND filterESTEBAN E : To use my 77mm filter on a 67 mm lensBENJAMIN A : What you stockedLIONEL W : Need to adapt a lens to 77 mm neutral density filter.JAMES J : Allows me to use one size filter with several different lenses.GUBBISHET J : I have 77mm polarizer and ND filter need to use the same for smaller ring lensJOHN C : To use bigger filters I already own.Joseph N : Needed a ring for the 77mm ND filter to fit both my Sigma 35 and 85 DG DN.CARL L : Adapt a close-up filter.Felipe Dragon A : Benefits vs CostNandor S : cheap solution, curious if it worksTIM C : To use this on my tamaron lenses as well as the SONY 70-200mmAlejandro O : Need itCHRISTOPHER F : I need this to adapt a 77mm variable ND to a 67mm lens - these are great value step-up adapters.KEVIN J : Good ReviewsROBERT F : needed for a filter so it will fit a different lenseKimberly F : Great reviews and priceMICHAELA C : Bought a Sigma lens with a 67mm filter thread but i have a set 77mm filters. Now I'm all set!George N : to use with 77mm filterMARIA F : I only have one 67mm lens and it was easier to be able to use my 77mm filters on this instead of buying all 67mm just for that one lensJACOB Y : needed it for my nd!ROBERT C : New lens. Bought Adorama step-up ring in the past and liked them. This was your replacement.DAVID J : I have only 77mm ND and Polarizing filters.Matthew L : for New ND 77mm ND filterJASON M : Least expensive option. Needed a step-up ring because I lost mine - easy to lose.Samuel M : Step up lens to filter.MAHESH B : I have Variable ND filter from 2 stop to 10 stop so using this for stepping up from 67mm to 77 mmSCOTT F : I have the NIKKOR Lenses with 67 & 77 mm filter sizes - this avoids needed to purchase multiple sets.LINDA D : Highly recommended read...one should not have to by varied filters for each lens.ROBERT D. W : Rather than buy more filters, I chose this step-up ring. Using a larger filter on a smaller diameter lens is seldom a problem; Going the other way can result in vignetting. Since I had a good selection of 77mm filters, the step-up ring was a natural choice.

Good Enough

Really pretty good for the low price. The threads are sticky and have a gritty feel about them due to the metal type, but it does the job and does not cost very much. A step-up adapter is a pretty basic tool and it is hard to justify the cost of the more expensive adapters.

Pro-Optic Step up Ring

Allows me to use larger filters on a smaller lens. Well made, saves you money if you have larger quality filters that you are now able to use on a different filter size, and smaller lens.

Works well as advertised.

Fits both lens and filters perfectly. Its a decent addition to a kit if you want to try and save some money on filters across multiple lens sizes.

Okay got it now!

I previously ordered a step down by mistake, my error. This is now perfect for adapting a larger ND filter to my smaller lens. Item came in a couple of days ( ~1 week)

Cost effective

I have 5 Canon lenses all 77mm. My newly acquired 100mm macro is 67 mm so it just made sense to get a step up ring so I can use my existing filters

Step Up Adapter Ring

When I ordered my neutral density filter set, I got some that were large enough to use on all my lenses by way of Step Up Adapter Rings. The ProOptic rings do exactly as they should and are easy to screw on or off my lenses. Highly recommended!

This is a quality product at a great price. It allows me to use filters I buy for my 77mm lens on my 67mm lens. Having this saved me from buy multiple Variable ND filters. That saved me over $100 there. I have used ProOptic step up rings and trust the brand name because I have never had a problem with them.

Economical adapter

Good value adapter. As I only bought 77mm filters for my pro lens. It is made of aluminum, not brass as those more expensive ones. It does not come with a case, so I use the other filter case for it. No issue on fitting at all.

Good Step up ring

I use this step up ring for my 18mm-105mm Nikkon lens. It allows me to directly attach 77mm filters. The action is fairly smooth but the powder coating sounded a little crunchy initially. But the machining is nice. It is aluminum, so take care not to over tighten the filter to the ring and ring to the lens. It would be easy to strip or damage the components if you are not mindful. I suspect those who are negative on this product don't know how to care for equipment properly.
