This works with the Pocket Wizard system and is specifically designed for controlling the Paul C. Buff AlienBees studio lights. It is easy to attach, fairly self explanatory especially if you are already using Pocket Wizards. This has performed exactly as intended. Happy with this product.

Now I can adjust my Alien Bees from the camera. No more raising and lowering the lightstands. What a blessing!

Control up to 3 seperate channels of strobes while operating your camera. You must use these with the Pocket Wizard TL system. The AC9 allows total freedom from your Alien Bees or White Lightning flashes when on location or in the studio. You dial in your flash settings from the MiniTT1 and AC3 mounted on the top of your camera Hot Shoe. The ACP is connected to a Flex TT5 and then directly to the remote control phone jack in the back of the flash. It is a FAST, and EASY setup! It eliminates running back and forth to your strobes to make adjustments. You can even turn your strobes off and on from the camera! Excellent product for cutting your studio or location setup and shoot time to a minimum.

I have had very little time with this product but when I first got them and hooked them up, it was easy and right away they were sync'd to the camera and I was shooting and adjusting with the AC3. Very nice to have all that control right at the camera.

My strobes are Alien Bees and as I learned studio lighting I soon learn what a time waster it was to have to keep walking around to each light to manually reset the power. With the AC9 and FlexTT5's coupled with the AC3 Zonecontroler I do not have to. I can now adjust my lights right from camera position, in the studio or on location. What a time saver!

I have noticed that it is very important that your pocket wizards and lights are turned on in the proper order or the modeling light doesn't respond/track right away to the AC9 even though the flash is firing and responding to stop adjustments.

I believe the original reviewer posted before the firmware that actually works with the AC9 was available, so "reading" wouldn't have been a help at that time. The AC9 units don't have any firmware, the firmware issue is with the Nikon compatible TT1 and TT5. Do be aware that PocketWizard's firmware was very buggy and now it's less so for it's Nikon products. You may need to run beta firmware to get around operational issues and for the products to work with specific Nikon bodies. My D7000 body has just been supported by a beta firmware, for example. PocketWizard's product supply line has been really slow for the Nikon products. I ordered three AC9s and Adorama sent me two. It took two months before I got my third AC9.

I love my Alien Bees but now I love them even more since I can control them with my AC9. I use it on location and in the studio. If you use Alien Bee lights then you have to have an AC9.

This works perfect. As stated on the PW website, you need the correct firmware version and for Nikon it's a Beta version. It's not surprising that Nikon and Canon use different versions as their flash systems are worlds apart and function differently. So in Fred's case, that 4 hours could have been saved by simply taking 30 seconds to read on PW website.

I feel Fred's pain. It did not work for me either. You need the Beta firmware version V2 Build 123. To get the Beta versions you have to change the settings on the firmware update for it to look for Beta versions. If you do a simple firmware update the Beta version won't show up.The following link has very good instructions on setting up the TT5 to work with the AC[@]Be sure to tell the utility what Alien Bees flash you using at the Sync timing tab. It seems to work for me now and the AC3 adjusts exposure up and down. I have not done a full studio shoot yet with the new setup

If you use Alien Bees you have to have the AC9. To be able to accurate raise or lower the power of the light by thirds of a stop is so valuable. It saves time and time is money. I cannot recommend the AC9 highly enough.
