The only negative I can say about the mini TT1 and the Flex T5 is that it took me longer than expected to get them up and running, but they are working great.

Haven't used it a lot yet but I'm impressed with it at this point. The quick start manual is a little vague but the on line manual is very good. I think this will see a lot of use in the future. Using it with a matching transceiver to fire a Canon 430EX II flash off camera.

The PW MiniTT1 is one of the main tools in my toolbox for my photography business. I currently have two of them along with the TT5's. During a mad dash to obtain a shot during a wedding I inadvertently slammed my s910 against the wall thus snapping the connector on the TT1. I want to thank my TT1 for taking the brunt of the hit which saved my SB910, but was sad for it's demise. At that point I was able to use another TT5 as a trigger and complete the job, but realized how important my TT1 is as my main trigger. I now have 3 TT1's and will never go out shooting without one.

Just getting back into lighting with monolights and for me the mini just revolutionized my photography. Updated software via my computer and only took 5 minutes to figure out how to use it. This is an awesome small tool!

The one I bought is for the Canon system. 5D Mk II and Speedlite 580 EX II. When operated with just these two devices this item works flawlessly - however - when I introduced Canon's infrared remote trigger into the setup it would lock up the CAMERA in such a way that I had to disconnect the Pocket Wizard and cycle the camera power off and on to wake it up. Canon had never heard of this problem and so had no solution. Pocket Wizard said something to the effect that Canon firmware was not "pre-releasing" their camera and that was the reason for the problem. I'm not convinced that was really the problem however. I asked PW why the green LED on their unit continued to flash after I shut it off with the switch. Strange, they said, try restoring the PW to factory default using the included USB cable and PW software. Doing that seems to have fixed it. The green LED no longer flashes after I shut it off and the camera no longer locks up. It seems that somehow PW was actually locking up the camera. Both Canon and PW customer service were very helpful in figuring out this curious malfunction.

The miniTT1 on camera with FlexTT5 units works. It simply works. If you are having problems, go back to the basics. The best trick is to start with everything turned off, including your camera. Turn on the flash unit, then its FlexTT5, then the miniTT1, and finally the camera. Using the miniTT1, I just raise the antenna on the FlexTT5 units and never worry about aligning the antennae. I also recommend using the AC3 to control the power ratio, and especially when using your TTL mode.

AC3zone controller should be built in to unit. This is a well built good design. Definitely a bonus to have this streamlined device on camera as opposed to a larger flex transceiver. This system is a must for any serious photographer.

Wonderful! Cut the cord, use this (with a FlexTT5 of course). Simple to use. You will want more of these and strobes too.

Great improvement over infrared flash communication. It is easier to set up than infrared flash as well. No need to set a flash as master or slave; you do that with switches on the PocketWizards. I, for one, am happy that it does not use AAA batteries. It would be much larger and bulkier if it did.

As a Pro Photographer I find it strange that Wizard or any other Advertiser never stated that The TT1 , TT5 and AC3 will NOT work with the Nikon D2Xs and earlier DSLR cameras, there apparently also is a problem with some Canons. After contacting the company they stated they have no intention at this time to write a software patch to correct this problem as it would be too time consuming. I would not recommend this product to people with one of the earlier Nikon Flagship's.

Great devise when used properly. Watch PocketWizard tutorials for proper usage including start up procedures, initial test firing, focusing, etc. and you'll love how well it works. Use it with a haphazard setup and you'll be upset with its performance. I also like PocketWizard's constant upgrades/support refining the product's capabilities as new camera's come online.

I use this product in conjunction with two other Pocket Wizard Flex 5s. They all work together perfectly. I have no negative comments. Only issue I have had is that it seems to be easy to bump the power button. Several times I have caught the unit on when it was turned off, and the battery is not one you could just pick up in a drug store in most case. It is imperative that the units be kept updated and be on the same version software-as stated in the instructions. And, remember that the first shot will never be a good exposure-it is a test shot.

Love the size for the hot shoe on camera. Flex will do the same thing but is somewhat larger in size. I opted for the mini for the camera and love it. Small and stays out of the way. Especially when camera is hanging fromt the strap. Love it!

Though this little unit worked alright with the Flex TT5, the issues with breaking Canon 580 EX II flashes was enough for me to sell my system. I had high hopes but preferred to sell this sytem rather than sell my 2 580s

I have had this product for 2 years and have to say it usually performs as advertised. The only problem I have encountered is with the MiniTT sometimes not making proper contact while in the hotshoe. Usually a quick tweek of the Mini solves the problem. If you can't risk ever missing a shot, maybe the Flex system is not for you as I have not found it to be 100% reliable, but 99% of the time it works just fine. The high speed sync ability is great and it works. I also like that the firmware/software is upgradeable, I think Pocket Wizard makes a quality product and am happy with my purchase.

Used with the the PW Flex TT5 makes your Speedlites useful as an on-the-fly flash out in the field with TTL as an option

I thought I'd do an upgrade from my Plus II's. I was looking to use the High Speed sync function of this unit. In my cons I say there is no shut off function. I know that if the unit is on the camera and the camera is idle it will shut off. My issue is that apparently if you take the unit off the camera and forget to put the switch to off it will drain the battery. Which brings me to the other issue I have with this unit. These batteries are expensive and I'm a fan of AA or AAA rechargeable batteries. This is why I would recommend that if you want standard batteries then the Flex TT5 is just a few dollars more. In the long run you'll save money by not having to by the special battery required to power this unit. Having said all of that I like the Pocket Wizard products, this one included. It works as advertised. I have used the High Speed Sync up to 1/8000 with no issues. The battery thing is an issue with me. I have to make sure that I have an extra battery with me. I've also taken to removing the battery after I'm done shooting just in case I forgot to turn off the unit. My son uses my equipment too so sometimes he forgets. Solely on this issue I'd tell people to get the Flex TT5 not recommend this unit.

Pick either the US or European versions - you can't mix them, they use different frequencies and will not work together.

There is no substitute for PW's !! They are the best , most reliable triggers available !! These TT1's also allow you to use an on camera flash if desired , which I have done until my recent AC3 controller purchase. Now I have Awesome control of all of my off camera flashes !!!

Light weight and easy to use. Coupled with the FlexTT5's on the flashes and you're off shooting. It's that easy. PocketWizard gives you one of the best off camer flash systems out there. The i-TTL works just like the flash is on the hot shoe. One of the best things about the MiniTT1 is you can mount a flash right on top of it and still comand the the FlexTT5's all at the same time.

Quality !!

These TT1's are just the ticket for on camera remotes !! Much smaller than the TT5's , but only function as transmitters. All work flawlessly on my nikon gear. An added bonus , you can still attach a flash to the top of these on camera if need be !! PW's are the only triggers I'll use !!
With its low profile design, you can use the MiniTT1 Transmitter on camera to trigger remote i-TTL / CLS speedlights or studio flashes attached to FlexTT5 Transceivers. Place TTL or manual flashes anywhere to illuminate the scene: Around corners, out-of-sight and in bright sunlight. The MiniTT1 is compatible with any PocketWizard radio for triggering manual flash or remote cameras.
ControlTL
PocketWizard's newest firmware platform taps into the camera's digital communications to enable an entirely new level of remote flash capability through our proven radio system. ControlTL allows remote i-TTL for Nikon CLS / i-TTL systems as well as Manual Power Control. ControlTL firmware is configurable and upgradeable for continuous improvement.
Dedicated CLS / i-TTL Triggering
Locking your MiniTT1 Transmitter into the hot shoe of a Nikon DSLR camera and mounting CLS / i-TTL flashes onto FlexTT5 Transceivers gives you full flash exposure control with the freedom and reliability of a PocketWizard radio. There are no special settings to make or modes to call up. Use the camera's flash exposure controls for basic control of remote flashes or add an AC3 ZoneController or Nikon Master unit for even more flexibility.
Manual Power Control
Adjust the manual power settings of your remote Nikon Speedlights directly from a AC3 ZoneController, SB-800 or SB-900 flash mounted on your on-camera MiniTT1 or FlexTT5. You can independently control the power output of up to three remote groups of lights (you can have as many lights in each group as you want) from full power down to the lowest setting simply through the user interface on the back of the SB-800 or SB-900 or with the dials of the AC3 ZoneController. Now you can work with total control with your remote lights, without leaving your shooting position. Nikon SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander may also be used.
High Speed Sync (Auto FP)
The MiniTT1 makes Nikon's FP/HSS mode a lot more functional with the freedom of radio. Now you can use your i-TTL speedlights in FP sync all the way to 1/8000 in the middle of the day in bright sun! Use this feature to shoot wide open in bright sun for amazing results.
Auto Trigger Select for ControlTL
The hot shoe on both the MiniTT1 and Flex TT5 will trigger just about any hot shoe flash placed into it in addition to the Nikon Speedlight's it is designed for. Yes, you can now fire just about any hot shoe flash including Vivitar, Canon, etc., in manual mode only and not TTL mode.
HyperSync
Our patent pending HyperSync technology allows photographers to achieve faster X-sync speeds, sometimes up to 1/8000 of a second, with full power flash. Now you can cut the ambient light and use wide-open apertures, outdoors in bright sunlight. HyperSync automatically adjusts the timing of your flash trigger so that faster than X-sync speeds can be achieved. With certain Nikon camera and flash combinations, you can achieve sync all the way to 1/8000th of a second. Just imagine what you can do using flash in bright sun with wide open apertures and fast shutter speeds. Since HyperSync is a trigger function you can use any PocketWizard Receiver including the FlexTT5, PlusX, Plus III, Plus II or MultiMAX. HyperSync works optimally with Studio flash. See High Speed Sync (Auto FP) above for higher than XSync speeds with Speedlights,
HyperSync Automation
HyperSync Automation adjusts HyperSync timing in two separate places - on the transmitter and on the receiving ControlTL radio. The transmitting or on-camera MiniTT1 or FlexTT5 automatically adjusts HyperSync to compensate for changes made to shutter speed. Photographers can further refine HyperSync via the PocketWizard Utility. For more information on Configuring HyperSync Automation, visit the HyperSync section of the PocketWizard Wiki.
High Speed Sync (HSS / FP Sync) Disable Mode
Select either HSS Sync or HyperSync at shutter speeds above x-sync. This allows you to use HyperSync and the benefit of full power flash all the way up to 1/2000 with certain flash systems.
Rear Curtain Sync
Precise rear curtain sync capability is engaged using the camera's sync settings. Capture natural light trails with sharp exposures at the end - no "after trails!"
Pre-Flash Boost
Nikon flashes use a dual preflash system to calculate i-TTL exposure values. In many TTL situations, including shooting in full sun, over long distance or using diffusers or bounce flash, the normal pre-flash is simply not enough for the camera to see. PocketWizard's Pre-Flash Boost increases your remote Nikon flashes first preflash by three stops and, if necessary, the second preflash by one stop. The boost level can also be adjusted at the flash if necessary.
PowerTracking
When working with certain manual flashes, you can change any of your settings on your camera and the system adjusts for those changes. Change your camera's exposure compensation to adjust the flash output or make adjustments in aperture or ISO and the system balances your flash for proper exposure.
Built-in Hot Shoe
Lock your Nikon flash into the MiniTT1's dedicated hot shoe and combine your remote flash with on-camera flash or use the on-camera flash for additional CLS / i-TTL or Manual Power Control only. The metal and glass reinforced resin hot shoe assembly is a superstructure onto itself and incredibly durable. The best part; no more cords.
Basic Trigger Mode
Allows the MiniTT1 or FlexTT5 to work as a transmitter on ANY camera it will fit. Anyone looking for the small form factor of the MiniTT1 can use it on other DSLR's, SLR's or even medium format cameras with standard hot shoes.
PocketWizard Compatible
The MiniTT1 sends out two trigger signals; one on the new ControlTL channels and another on the same channels as all standard trigger PocketWizard radios so they will work with any unit you may already have.
PocketWizard Utility - Programmable and Upgradeable
Use the supplied PocketWizard Utility software with the on-board USB port to program the MiniTT1 to any PocketWizard channel and zone as well as many other custom settings. The MiniTT1 can be upgraded whenever updates and feature enhancements are available.
Channels / Learn Mode
The MiniTT1 has two channel configuration settings; C1 and C2. Each can be programmed as needed with up to 20 ControlTL channels for TTL photography or Manual Power Control or 32 standard channels for manual flash photography. Channels can be configured with the PocketWizard utility or use the Learn function to quickly program channels or the reset function to configure back to factory settings.
ZoneControl
Add the AC3 ZoneController on top of your MiniTT1 for Nikon and gain three zones of power control right from the camera's position. Works in both auto/CLS/i-TTL and manual. Shut down an entire zone with the flick of a switch. AC3 ZoneController sold separately.
SpeedCycler with an AC3 ZoneController
Previously only seen with PocketWizard's MultiMAX radios, this new mode is designed to rapidly cycle through multiple flash units fired individually in sequence. This allows photographers to fire a camera in sync with flashes faster than a single flash unit can recycle. It can also be used for triggering remote cameras sequentially. SpeedCycler is engaged on a transmitting MiniTT1 or FlexTT5 via the PocketWizard Utility. SpeedCycler mode requires an AC3 ZoneController in the top hot-shoe of the on-camera PocketWizard radio. Zones A, B and C will be triggered sequentially and individual zones can be disabled by setting the AC3's Zone Switch to the off position. Both TTL and manual flash controls are supported.
Flash Power Control without a Camera
Photographers can now take their AC3 and transmitting radio off-camera and use it to set power levels for any flash with a ControlTL receiver, making it more convenient to use an optically triggered light meter or control the power levels with just a MiniTT1/FlexTT5 and AC3 in their hand while another photographer takes the pictures. Previously, an AC3 ZoneController on a MiniTT1 or FlexTT5 needed to be on camera to send manual power levels to remote flashes. Now, when connected to a MiniTT1 or FlexTT5, manual power levels are transmitted to remote flashes when the TEST button is pressed even when the transmitter is off the camera. This affects both speedlights connected to receiving FlexTT5s and larger flashes like AlienBees and Elinchrom RX units with ControlTL receivers.
Continuous Fast FPS
Never before have you been able to shoot remote CLS / i-TTL non-stop in continuous high-speed mode. Fill the buffer! Nothing else comes close.
Low-Profile Design
The lay-flat design with integrated hot shoe and internal antenna keeps a very low profile on your camera. Powered by a CR2450 lithium coin cell battery.
