Not quite what I hoped.

My copy is not as sharp as I had hoped. It renders Bokeh well enough wide open. I have not done any micro adjustment yet. Build quality feels nice. If it was sharp I might have given it a 5. It has left me underwhelmed though. Only had it a few weeks, will adjust and shoot more.

Great price for a great lens

Have had limited chance to use it so far. However, the few shots I have taken with it have been sharp and clear. The lens is easy to use, not too heavy to carry around for a day. I can imagine that it will become one of my most used lenses. Despite the wait for it to be restocked, once in stock, shipping was fast and the price can't be beat anywhere.

Underrated lens.

On two different Pentax APS-C bodies this lens performs outstanding. The lens might be a discontinued item but produces great detailed images. This lens with the fast F2.8 has similar range to the desired 70-200mm on a full frame DSLR.

Just as good as you think

I knew I shouldn't have rented this lens that time, but afterwards I saw the added character that this lens can bring to an image. Purchase experience no different!

Wedding lens telephoto for Pentax K3

Great cropped sensor telephoto for lifelike bride shots. Same effect as 70-200 for full frame (I know..I know..it's not technically the same perspective). Getting a little distance from the subject just seems to relax the bride and bring out the best shots. F2.8 is great. Very sharp. No problems with the SDM motor at all.

Love-Hate

I have had this lens for a few years now. I absolutely love the sharpness and image quality it produces. I have written outstanding reviews about it before however the auto focus just quite working. After going on a couple Pentax chats I have found out that this is an ongoing problem that many people had had. You would think for the price of this lens they would address the problem as Pentax has been aware about it for some time. This and the slowest turn around for camera repair I have ever seen is forcing me to leave a camera make I have loved. I bought canon pro gear a while back because of the quality issue and ancillary equipment but have kept the Pentax because I just loved it. This is kind of the last straw for me. Sorry Pentax I am out of here.

Excellent mid-range telephoto zoom

Bought this used. My K-5 Pentax is not noted for autofocus, so I was surprised as to how much better it focused with this lens. I really love a fast lens. Worked great shooting a christening in the a dim light of a church. Great for low light candid shots. Used lens was better than rated. Lens hood was not included, but Adorama sent one later after I called Customer Service. A true measure of a company is not just price, but service == Adorama can through for me.

Great Lens!

Just used this lens on vacation and it was great. Is not too heavy, focuses true, awesome contrast. This lens might never leave my camera. Easy to hold and quick shift focus.

Awesome Lens!

This is an AMAZING lens... I love the wide rubberized zoom ring, which functions very smoothly and it has an internal focusing system (IF) the front element does not rotate so you can easily use a polarizer on it. The AF accuracy is excellent when approaching the focus point from farther focused distances, less so from closer distances. But see for yourselves...

This is an AMAZING lens... I love the wide rubberized zoom ring, which functions very smoothly and it has an internal focusing system (IF) the front element does not rotate so you can easily use a polarizer on it. The AF accuracy is spot on when approaching the focus point from longer focus distances, less so from closer distances. But see for yourselves...

Happy with it

Really nice and clear photographs, it does focus somewhat slow but not too bad. The range is great, personally would prefer something like a 200 but that is just me. Where I was most happy with this lens was at weddings, I was really happy with it's performance especially outdoor weddings, since indoor autofocus in low light is not good at all, but that is probably the camera.

my favorite lens

This is by far my favorite lens...the DA* lenses are great and I also have the companion to this lens (Da*16-50) as well. The lens has a great solid build quality as do all the DA* lenses as well as being weather sealed. The lens gives me crisp quality images thru out the zoom range and wonderful bokeh. I primarily use this lens for the weddings and events I am working but it really stands out when I am covering college sports at night or in the arena where you cannot use flash photography, thats when the f2.8 aperature really comes in handy.

Disapointed considering the hype

Being a Pentaxian I had great hopes for this lens. Considering the ratng and the hype I was very excited to buy this. Expecially since I am shooting both a K-7 and K-5 bodys. This lens failed over and over again. I sent it in to Pentax for warranty service 2 times and each time they found nothing wrong and sent it back. Finally I gave up and traded it in for a Sigma f2.8 70-200mm HMS lens. Much happier with Sigma.

Get one!!

Without any doubt, this is the best lens for Pentax DSLR. Sharp through all range, superb bokeh & 3D effect, lightweight, excellent build quality with weather resistant. All in all, perfect lens for most occasions.

One Great Lens

I am extremely pleased with the Pentax SMCP-DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 ED. It is a great lens. I love the Bokeh. Image quality is superb. I like the fact it is water sealed, I use it with a K20D and K5 both of which are water sealed. I do a lot of photography on whitewater rivers while rafting and this is a necessary feature also living in Western Oregon I spend a lot of time in the rain. The aspect of the lens I am most happy with is the auto focus. My non star lenses have great image quality but the auto focus can be a bit tricky and I spend a lot of time in manual focus especially when shooting through trees which happens a lot. This lens handles it very well and will focus on a subject on the far side of thick trees which the other lenses would not do so I never really have to take it out of auto focus mode. I would reccomend this lens to anyone who wants a professional quality lens.

this will become one of my most used lens outdoors and inside low lght, it pairs nicely with the DA*16-50.The DA* 50-135 a great quality lens that sits well with my K7 and K5 I have been using it at our local music events and have published many shots in our local rag.

Sharp and compact

I bought this lens for the weather sealing. Since I'm a swimsuit photographer, it comes in handy in those humid locations in Mexico. Lens is super sharp, but doesn't focus as quickly as the screw drive lenses. But it's fast enough when photographing the girls. I use this lens more than any other lens in my collection.

Highly recommended Lens!

This is a great lens to use on the K10D. It may never come off your camera. Nice and pretty compact. Has a nice weight to it but it's not noticably heavy. Really, really good piece of equipment. Highly recommended. Once you go to SDM, it's hard to look back... and listen back to the screw drive. :0

Perfect, I love it

If the AF-Motor would be a bit faster it would be a perfect lens. The Performance is very good, even with a wide open aperture.
