Questions & Answers

mmlphoto m : Is this lens compatible with a Pentax K3?
Eliana M : Will this fit a Nikon D3200 or do I need an adapter?MONICA G : No, this is a Pentax lens for Pentax K mount cameras. It's a good lens, but there are some very good, comparable lenses for your Nikon camera too!ANDREW R : No. This lens fits Pentax K mount, not Nikon.
LARRY E : is the lens water proof?JOHN L : I believe it is.CARLOS F : No, this lens is neither water-proof nor water-resistant.JON H : Most certainly NOT. Know this, no lens is "waterproof". The better lenses that do have seals are referred to as Weather Resistant indicated by a WR at the end of the lens model name for some, but not all Pentax lenses. Weather Resistance means resistant to moisture and dust coming into the lens or camera body, but NEVER SUBMERGE the product under water or dust. The Pentax lenses are well known for having the best WR systems in the industry, though this 50mm f1.8 does not have them. The 50mm f1.8 has outstanding sharpness from f2.2 in the center, and all over the frame at f3.2 down to f11. So it has great optics, but you are paying a very cheap price for this lens so the shortcuts are that it has a plastic mount vs metal mounts in better lenses, no weather seals, and a very light all plastic construction and no internal focusing mechanism as this is a screw driven lens. Know this is the most basic and cheap of lenses offered by Pentax, but the optical quality is great. Enjoy.ANDREW R : No

Very nice little lens.

Wonderful little and inexpensive lens for the price. The mount is plastic but I've had no problems in 8 years of use. The focus is fast, the bokeh is very nice and the colors it renders is superior to lenses of other brands I've compared it to. (My other third party Pentax compatible lenses)

A Very ?Nifty Fifty?

As the saying goes, a ?nifty fifty? should be in any serious photographer?s kit of prime lenses. This lens is fast at 1.8 and i love using it for portraits right out of the box. The bokeh is right where I need it to be for studio and location portraiture, it is a definite ?must have? lens.

50 mm lens

Nice lens, light, fast, small. Your web site claims it is also for a full frame K-1...it is not..yes it will fit..but it will be a cropped image.

A must buy.

A must buy for Pentax cameras. The price to performance factor is really high here. The lens is very small but still has a decent focus ring and the autofocus is fast enough. But for less then 100 dollars... You have to buy this.

For the price you can't go wrong.

The lens was as I expected...great value. The method of packaging; however was insufficient to protect the original box. One of the flaps on the box was torn. It was mailed in a vacuum packed enveloped and stuffed into our mail box. Something of this technology should be shipped in an outer corrugated box to protect the manufacture's original box..

Great adition

You can't beat the price for the quality you get. I am a portrait and wedding photographer, and use this lens all.the.time. I did a wedding recently and rented a (big name brand) 2.8 24-70, as mine had recently broke, and I ended up switching it out to use my 50 because the quality wasn't as good....and the rental was a ($) lens!

This is a great lens

Unlike the person that gave the 2 star review he should check the camera mount for the k1 and what is done with a K mount lens.. What he said the camera would go into crop is correct for a K mount lends camera. My K3II worked great and gave me a full frame picture. My picture have great color and images sharpens. Before buying any thing make sure it is compatible with you camera. this lends should never get 2 stars as long as you by it for the correct camera.

Awesome little lens

For the money, this is probably the best lens you can get for a Pentax camera. Amazing bokeh. Minimal learning curve with this lens. You can simply mount it to your camera and instantly start taking some jaw dropping photos.

A lot of bang in a little package

This little lens has so much capability for its size. Open up the aperture to 1.8 and be prepared to take great night photos. The focus can be a tad finicky, but any good cameraman can work it easily. I recommend this for generalized shooting, as there is no zoom feature (obviously) and you'll have a great time everywhere you take it.

Painfully sharp

For the price (shoot, for any price) this is a gem, and it is almost painfully sharp and noiseless. I'm a working pro and am completely satisfied with the performance of this lens. The only downside is that there is a lot of (high-quality) plastic, so I won't be pounding any nails with it. Get it. You'll love it.

Cheap price for good glass

This is my first prime lens, and so far I'm satisfied. At such a low price I had my doubts as to whether or not I'd keep it or return it. It's certainly sharper and of course has a much faster aperture than the Pentax 18-135 that I've been using and loving. However, this lens is loud. Very loud. But, I've been enjoying the bokeh and it's making me learn how to compose much better (I didn't realize how lazy a zoom lens had made me). So, if you can ignore the chainsaw whirring when it focuses, then get this lens-you can't beat the price for a sharp and overall good quality piece of equipment.

I never took daylight pics at night before

buying this lens. 4 shots out the front door in the dark , 50mm f/1.8 on a K70 set to auto, and all 4 looked light they were taken in full daylight. Camera, lens, combination, I don't know, but it works.

I found out that this lens is in fact a crop lens

This may be a bit unfair, but I'm only giving this 2 stars. I was looking for a full frame lens for the K1. This lens showed up on the search as a full frame format lens, and so I bought it. The picture quality was pretty disappointing, even compared to the Sony APS-C images I was used to. Weeks later I noticed that the K1 automatically switched to the crop mode with this lens mounted. After some google searches, I found out that this lens is in fact a crop lens. Fix your search parameters Adorama.

Great deal

I have a manual 50, but with four cats in the house, all of whom move quickly when they see a camera, I need to focus more quickly. My cats hate it, but I love it.

It's a great little lens

If you derive your satisfaction from photography by owning a label like Canon "L" lenses or Leica or some other moniker, then this lens is not for you. This lens is as good as advertised. Razor sharp. Fantastic color and contrast. At the price they sell it at it's being given away. I won't go into the "build quality" or plastic this or that. The glass is what counts and this is good stuff.
