These are my absolutely favorite binoculars ever! Not only can you sneak a peak at the moon ? but you can zoom in on the wonderful macro world of insects or miniature flowers that these old eyes just can't focus on anymore. They are compact ! They are lightweight! They are just absolutely wonderful worth 10 stars ??

Very happy with Pentax 8.5x21 Papilio II. I purchased it to carry in field for close focus in identification of butterflies. It?s lightweight, easy focus and best of all waterproof.

I love these binoculars so much. I get to watch insects, lizards, and other small critters without getting all up in their space. They came so quick, too! I love them.

I bought the originals of these years ago and misplaced them. I recently bought the Series II and they are noticeably better-just as good at close-up viewing as the old ones but superior for distance viewing. I compared my 6.5x with my friend's 8.5x and I prefer the 6.5x, which as a slightly better depth of field. I took my two sons with me to the Met. Museum of Modern Art in NYC and was astounded at the miniature art using these binoculars. For example, Jan Van Eyck's The Crusifixion; The Last Judgement, I could see the detail in the faces in the foreground. My wife confiscated these from me and wont give them back.

I'm a retired snowbird and these little binoculars are perfect for walking on the beach. They allow me to look at shells, crabs and jellyfish without squatting. They are great for butterflies and wildflowers, too. The big surprise though is that they work really well for birds, boats and everything else. I used to have the original version but I don't have them now to do a side by side comparison to the version II. But based on my memory, the version II has considerably better optical quality. I recommend the 6.5x over the 8.5x. They are easier to hold steady and have a bigger exit pupil which makes for a more comfortable view.

I have several sets of the Papilio 6.5x21 binoculars. The wide field of view and close-up focus make them especially useful, both for nature-watching and for lectures, etc. I have a visual problem (wear special glasses)and find them extremely helpful. For the price (or even for a lot more) they are uniquely helpful.

I am a birder and nature photographer. These are extremely sharp for macro and at least as sharp as my 8-42 monarchs for birding, just not as bright. Very compact and light. I love the fact the case has a belt loop. These binoculars stay out of my way when I am taking photographs.

I purchased these binoculars for an upcoming trip to Costa Rica. So far, sighting them in for my eyes and use around the neighborhood show them to be light, easy to focus and well-suited for short to close-distance observation. In my childhood, living in Perú and Venezuela and seriously engaged in entomology in the rainforests, I had considerable experience observing insects and other wildlife, but only with the naked eye. I hope to expand this experience in Costa Rica with the power of these binoculars.

Close focusing maintains stereo vision down to 1.5 ft. without readjusting interpupillary distance. Comparable to a long-distance headband magnifier. Excellent optics for the price. In poor light conditions, noticeably contrastier image than original Papilios. Handy not only for insect-watching, but museum use, indoor architectural viewing, pole-pruner collecting, etc. My favorite travel binoculars. (OK for bird watching, but prefer my Nikon Monarch 7 8x30.) Easy to hold, enough eye relief for eyeglasses. If you own any other binoculars, a good choice for a second pair.

I am very pleased with this product when it finally did come. The only hick up was, it was in stock and when I placed the order and confirmed it with my gift certificate the next morning, then they said it wasn't. But I am very please with the product and Lewis who helped me on the other end of the phone with customer service.

Let the PENTAX Papilio 6.5x21 Porro Prism Binoculars, named after the Latin word for butterfly, transform your viewing experience. These binoculars are expertly designed for detailed observation of insects in various settings, from the great outdoors to museums and galleries.
The Papilio binoculars are equipped with a PENTAX Convergent Lens Optical System Engineering (CLOSE) mechanism. This innovative feature automatically adjusts the left and right objective lenses towards the center when focusing on objects at a close range. This ensures you won't miss a single detail, whether you're indoors or outside, bringing you so close to the subject that it almost feels within reach.
These compact Porro-prism binoculars boast a dual-axis, single-body design with synchronized eyepiece adjustment for ease of use. The aspherical lens elements provide edge-to-edge sharpness, ensuring clear and sharp images across the entire field of view.
The Papilio binoculars also feature fully multi-coated optics, which maximize light transmission for high-quality viewing. Every surface of every element is fully coated, minimizing internal glare and flare for a bright, clear view.
The unique Uni-body design enhances durability by locking the objective lenses in a single housing and synchronizing the eyepiece movement. This design reduces the number of moving parts, ensuring that these binoculars will function properly and clearly for years to come.
Whether you're a nature enthusiast or a museum-goer, the PENTAX Papilio 6.5x21 Porro Prism Binoculars are an excellent choice. They come bundled with a telescoping stool/chair, harness, and cleaning cloth, providing you with everything you need for your viewing adventures.
