Looking at birds against bright sky will show some CA, but no more than is common in mid-priced roofs. Except for that, image very satisfying...sharp, bright, mostly color neutral. I find the eye relief spec just a little optimistic, but the strange thing is that the little SP gives me just as clear a picture with glasses off and eyecups up 2 notches, as with them flush with my specs on. As mentioned elsewhere, the little nylon case is barely adequate and the eyepiece cover is best used on a large bino of some kind. I got mine before the $150 price hike, and considered it a pretty good buy. At the current level, I might have 2nd thoughts....

Build, function and resolution are all great. At over 30' or so, just the slightest turn of the knob brings things into focus. I'm not going to take a full point for the strange eyepiece cover. Really looking forward to using them!

These are great glasses for rough and tumble Boy Scout and other adventures. Wonderful Pentax optics.

I compared these to Brunton, Leupold, Leica, Swarowski & others. The performance of these Pentax binoc's is right up there with the more expensive models. For the price, they can't be beat. Focus is smooth and quick. Clarity is great. My only gripe is the ridiculous eye-piece cover and the case. The eyepiece cover looks as if Pentax decided to make one cover to fit ALL of their binoculars. It just doesn't do the job. Also, the case is flimsy and offers minimal protection. What were they thinking.

Featuring high-resolution optics encased in a magnesium-alloy body with JIS Class 6 waterproof construction, these high-performance models are the perfect choice for a wide variety of applications such as close-up viewing, extended glassing, and use in less than ideal weather conditions.
Offering four different magnifications ranging from eight to 12.5 times, the DCF SP models are housed in a nitrogen-filled magnesium-alloy waterproof body and protected with a full-body rubber housing. They deliver exceptional image quality and close focusing with edge-to-edge sharpness, because of the inner-focus optical design incorporating hybrid aspherical eyepiece lenses, high-resolution phase-coated roof prisms, scratch-resistant hydrophobic coating on exposed objective and eyepiece lenses, and multi-coated optical elements.
Their lightweight design and long eye relief provide fatigue-free viewing, even during extended observations. They also come equipped with such user-friendly features as an extra-short minimum focusing distance, a diopter adjuster with lock mechanism, and four-stop helicoid-type eyepiece rings.
