There are two reasons that this should be used with binoculars. 1. The bottom of UCF-X (the one I own) is not flat. So if your tripod mount requires slightly larger flat surface like the quick release plates that I use, the binocular won't be mounted properly. The male screw side of this adapter only requires a small circle to be flat, so this problem is solved. 2. This adapter raises the binocular, so your face and nose won't touch the tripod (or the ballhead/panhead) when you are using the binocular. Alternatively, you can use 1/4 screw with both male and female threads (sold as tripod accessaries) to do the job. You may not find the one with the correct height though.
